Cloudhead Games’ Pistol Whip is one of the more unique rhythm-action videogames available for virtual reality (VR) headsets but PlayStation VR owners have been missing out. That’s going to come to an end next month with a confirmed release date announced.

PlayStation VR players will be able to look forward to shooting enemies to thumping tunes in just over a month’s time, with Pistol Whip due to launch on 28th July for the headset. It will feature all 15 scenes currently available in the PC and Oculus Quest versions, as well as 26 brand new trophies to unlock.
As for new content Cloudhead Games delayed the release of the ‘Religion’ update from the start of the month, rolling it out today instead. The last of the regular monthly updates, ‘Religion’ brings with it a new scene, 3 difficulties and a John Wick-inspired Baba Yaga pistol collection. In a statement the developer describes the scene as: “Religion is the pinnacle of Pistol Whip’s orchestral and cinematic action soundtrack, bringing you through a brutalist and sci-fi-inspired cityscape and into a tough-as-nails bullet hell.” It should keep players entertained at a whopping five-and-a-half-minutes.
Alongside the PlayStation VR and ‘Religion’ announcements, Cloudhead Games detailed its 2020 roadmap. For August there’s the ‘Heartbreaker’ update including 3 new scenes, 2 new modifiers, new customization options bringing a poppy and summery vibe to PC VR and Oculus Quest headsets – the PlayStation VR version will arrive later. Plus Oculus Quest will also get achievements.

Later on in Q4 2020 there will be a two-part update, ‘Action Pack 1 / The Concierge’. Released at the same time the Action Pack will feature a cinematic campaign as well as new weapon and enemy types. Details for ‘The Concierge’ have yet to be revealed.
Pistol Whip has received rave reviews with VRFocus saying in its playtest: “Pistol Whip is huge amounts of fun even on the easiest difficulty setting, suitable for VR players no matter their skill level.”
With plenty more still to come from Cloudhead Games VRFocus will continue to keep you updated on developments.
