It’s Multiplayer Mayhem for Perp Games’ Christmas AdVRent Calendar

Christmas is a time for coming together and helping others, it’s why VRFocus is happy to be part of Perp Games’ Combat AdVRent Calendar event this festive season. So not only are we helping put a smile on VR fans faces with a competition but also aiding UK charity Crisis which fights to end homelessness. If you’ve been following the campaign since 1st December, then you’ll know each day has a theme based around combat, and VRFocus’ is multiplayer gaming.

Final Assault

Perp Games originally held a similar calendar event last year, purely for the PlayStation VR titles it published. This year’s fun advent calendar event not only highlights entertaining virtual reality (VR) titles but also gives you a chance to win (most of) them.

It’s the 23rd December and with two days left to go until the big day, multiplayer videogames seemed particularly apt. So VRFocus has selected six titles with five of them available to win. Let’s start with military combat experience Onwarda videogame well known to a lot of VR players having also featured in Oculus’ VR League. A classic first-person shooter (FPS) developed by Downpour Interactive, VRFocus has both Steam and Oculus Store codes to give away.

Fire-Point Interactive’s Sabre VR for PlayStation VR is a very different beast. With a very bold cel-shaded art style, this is an arena FPS putting players inside mechanised animals called S.A.B.R.E.’s, offering cross-play functionality between VR and non-VR players.

Next up VR MOBA Cradle of Sins by British indie team U24 Solutions. Offering four playable characters and 28 weapons to select, Cadle of Sins isn’t yet available on Steam but the studio is currently running a $10k tournament which the competition codes will give you access to.

Solaris: Offworld Combat

If none of those are quite your thing, then how about winning real-time strategy (RTS) title Final Assault from Phaser Lock Interactive on Steam? VRFocus gave the videogame a commendable four-star review saying: “There’s plenty to love about Final Assault. Providing a leaner less complicated approach to RTS gameplay, most fans of the genre apart from the die-hard stalwarts should find there’s enough depth and reply value to keep coming back for hours on end.”

The last videogame you can win is Survios’ high seas action experience Battlewakeoffering a single-player campaign as well as multiplayer modes. Another decent entry from the developer, in Battlewake you captain a pirate vessel through hostile waters, using both magic and cannonballs to vanquish enemies.

The only title to make the list which isn’t winnable is Solaris: Offworld CombatThe next title from Firewall Zero Hour team First Contact Entertainment, Solaris: Offworld Combat promises 4 vs 4 battles in futuristic arena-style locations.

Battlewake

When it comes to supporting homeless charity Crisis its all part of Perp Games’ online store. Here the company sells all of its PlayStation VR hard copies, for those players who like to own a physical disk version. During December, Perp Games is donating 100% of the profits from each videogame sold to Crisis to help in its festive fundraising efforts.

In an additional competition, you can also win a PlayStation 4 Pro, PlayStation VR and videogame bundle care of Admix sponsoring the event.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of VR as the industry enters 2020, reporting back with all the latest announcements.

Disclosure: Admix is the parent company of VRFocus. VRFocus retains its editorial independence.

Perp’s Peace on Earth Christmas Calendar Event is a Collaborative VR Effort

This Christmas season Perp Games – best known for publishing physical versions of PlayStation VR titles – in conjunction with fellow developers, publishers, and content creators will be holding a festive virtual reality (VR) event called Peace on Earth, celebrating combat in VR.

Perp ChristmasStarting 1st December and spanning 25 days, the event will be filled with announcements, competitions and more. Revolving around Perp Games’ YouTube channel, every day will feature a selection of new activities based on a particular theme, run by one of the collaborating parties. For example, one day will be dedicated to singleplayer videogames while another looks at multi-player. There’s plenty planned so VRFocus doesn’t want to spoil too much.

It’ll be worth keeping an eye out each day on social media channels as there will be surprise special guests, giveaways, reveals, and exciting behind the scenes looks at some of your favourite VR videogames.

Plus, there will be a charity element. “In the spirit of peace and goodwill, we are proud to be supporting Crisis, the national homelessness charity. For every purchase made on the Perp Games store in December, 100% of the profits will be donated to Crisis, to help give people hope for a future away from homelessness,” notes the company.

“Get ready for 24 days of AdVRent fun, competitions and surprises.  And who knows, maybe there will be a special Boxing Day AdVRent door as well?” said Mickey Torode, Director of Publishing at Perp Games of the announcement in a statement.

This isn’t the first time Perp Games has conducted an event like this. Last year the publisher held the Perpmas Advent Calendar event, purely dedicated to PlayStation VR videogames. This year the company wanted to go one better and include a wider variety of titles and therefore, developers.

Recently, Perp Games has launched the long-awaited Golem for PlayStation VR while upcoming titles to complete 2019 include Honor and Duty: D-Day All Out War Edition, Battlewake and Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son. As the Peace on Earth event gets underway, VRFocus will bring you the latest updates.

Battlewake to get a Retail Launch for PlayStation VR in December

PlayStation VR owners are the only virtual reality (VR) gamers who can buy videogames as a physical copy, which is great for those collectors out there. This has been mainly thanks to Perp Games which has already announced the physical launches of Golem and Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son this winter. This week another has been added to that list, Survios’ pirate combat experience Battlewake.

Battlewake

Survios released the digital version of Battlewake back in September for PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality headsets. It’s the first vehicular combat videogame from the well-known VR developer whose previous titles include Creed: Rise to GloryElectronauts and Sprint Vector

Featuring a single-player campaign as well as multiplayer modes, Battlewake puts you in charge of your very own pirate ship. You take the role of one of four Pirate Lords characters, each with their own ship and special abilities. The 20-mission story campaign can be played solo or in co-op, while the other online options include a 10-ship deathmatch mode and a  mission-specific mode called Warchest.

“Survios games are the most widely distributed VR titles in the world. This collaboration with Perp Games is an opportunity for Survios products to reach an even wider market in retail environments,” said Seth Gerson, Survios CEO in a statement. “From online distribution to LBE and now in-store retail, this continues our mission to bring VR to the masses.”

Battlewake

Rob Edwards, Managing Director of Perp Games, is excited to bring Battlewake to retail this Christmas. “We are extremely proud to form a strategic alliance with Survios, one of the leading global developers in VR. They have consistently developed amazing, much-loved games and we can’t wait to share a physical version of Battlewake with fans of Survios and VR.”

VRFocus gave Battlewake a solid four-star review, saying: “Battlewake is a bit of a mixed experience. While its looks great and handles very well the multiplayer definitely carries the whole thing as the campaign is a little lacklustre.”

Perp Games plans to bring Battlewake to European stores on 6th December with a North American physical release in the near future. For further updates keep reading VRFocus.

Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son Coming to EU Stores in December for PlayStation VR

Perp Games, purveyors of physical virtual reality (VR) videogames for PlayStation VR has announced its working with Tequila Works to bring Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son to retail, starting with European stores in December.

Groundhog Day VR image3

Released in September across multiple formats, Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son continues on from the original 90s movie. Created in collaboration with Sony Pictures Virtual Reality (SPVR) and MWMi, the videogame puts you in the shoes of Phil Connors Jr., the son of the protagonist of the iconic film, as he returns to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

Just like his father Connors Jr. is forced to relive the same day over and over. The only way out is to listen to friends and family and help them out by solving elaborate puzzles inside the time loop.

Groundhog Day is a timeless classic, a tragic comedy –or a comedic tragedy? – of philosophical tones. We are big fans of the original movie so, of course, we were in for the sequel… in VR! With Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son we wanted players to come for the lulz but stay for the depth,” said Raul Rubio, CEO and Creative Director of Tequila Works in a statement. The journey from selfish to selfless is plagued with hilarity, introspection and many, many loops. We are delighted that fans can put this refreshing and narrative-complex VR title on the self, next to its illustrious predecessor, as a resonating monument to all daddy issues in the world. To World peace!”

Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son is one of the most talked-about VR games of the year, coming from one of the most talented VR studios in the world. We can’t wait for retailers to be able to offer to take the trip back to Punxsutawney later this year and are thrilled to have been given the chance to work with Sony Pictures Virtual Reality to bring this game to a wider audience”, adds Rob Edwards, Managing Director of Perp Games.

European stores will have Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son available from 6th December 2019 for PlayStation VR. A North American launch will follow, no date has been announced at the moment. For further updates, keep reading VRFocus.

Honor And Duty: D-Day All Out War Edition Now Slated for November Retail Release

A couple of months ago VRFocus reported on Perp Games and Strange Games announcing a retail version of multiplayer shooter Honor and Duty would be coming to PlayStation VR in September called Honor and Duty: D-Day All Out War Edition. That never happened, but today they’ve announced a new date for the European launch which will take place next month.

Honor and Duty

Honor and Duty: D-Day All Out War Edition isn’t some quick cash grab by releasing a physical version. This edition has been jam-packed with stuff to make it a tantalising purchase for PlayStation VR owners this festive season.

Containing both Honor and Duty: Arcade Edition and Honor and Duty: D-Day, they’ve both had a complete graphical overhaul as shown in these screenshots. It’ll also include the as-yet unreleased D-Day single-player expansion. Both versions will support VR and non-VR modes. As an added treat Honor and Duty: D-Day All Out War Edition will also contain exclusive digital extras.

Both titles offer different gameplay experiences. Honor and Duty: Arcade Edition offers Team Fortress style gameplay, where players can gradually unlock four character classes, Infantry, Medic, Heavy and Engineer, as they’re promoted. Kills earn them in-game currency which can then be spent on various weapons such as rocket launchers, machine guns and rifles. There’s even the option to train soldiers so particular objectives can be attained.

Honor and Duty

Honor and Duty: D-Day then kicks that action up a notch adding modes such as Team Deathmatch, Attack and Defend and Battle Royale, allowing for 32 player online matches. It’ll also include additional maps, new weapons and the option for players to jump into planes, jeeps and tanks.

Excited by the growing success of Honor and Duty, Rob Edwards, Managing Director of Perp Games said in a statement: “Strange Games have built a series of games beloved by the VR Community. The continued success of Honor and Duty has been incredible to watch and we’re delighted to work with Reggie to take the next step with this franchise.”

Honor and Duty: D-Day All Out War Edition is now scheduled for a 29th November launch across European territories. A North American release date is still to be announced. When that happens VRFocus will let you know.

BoxVR’s Hooks Into North American Retail Stores Next Month for PlayStation VR

FitXR released its fitness-focused virtual reality (VR) title BoxVR back in May, offering energetic workout routines via, you guessed it, boxing. During the summer the studio revealed a partnership with Perp Games to create a physical retail version for PlayStation VR which took place this month for European gamers. Now the pair have confirmed a date for the North American edition.

BoxVR

Originally an HTC Vive title which arrived in 2017BoxVR has grown to offer a variety of workouts and routines based on boxing. Players can choose from 45 workouts depending on how vigorous a session they want. Varying in length from short three-minute warmups to 60+ minute endurance workouts, there’s enough choice depending on how many calories you want to burn.

Or you can break away from the set routines and create a custom workout. In the My Workouts mode, you can create as many custom routines as you want, adjusting the length of each workout by building playlists from the 110 included music tracks, and adjusting the intensity of each routine. The music tracks span various genres including pop, rock, electronic dance music, drum and bass and hip hop.

As each workout is recorded you can track your progress allowing you to set goals. Or for those times when motivation is a little lacking then there’s always multiplayer. Up to six people are able to tackle the same workout together, competing for the top score.

BoxVR

BoxVR is already available to pre-order for $29.99 USD through AmazonGameStop and Target, and is coming soon to retailers including Best Buy. The physical edition will then arrive on 19th November 2019. Or you can always find BoxVR digitally on the PlayStation Store.

This isn’t the only title Perp Games has in store for PlayStation VR owners this Christmas. For those that want to get creative CoolPaintrVR: Deluxe Edition will be available this week in stores. Next month will be a biggie, with Perp partnering with Highwire Games on the long-awaited release of Golema PlayStation VR exclusive. VRFocus will continue its coverage of the latest VR retail launches, reporting back as soon as new information is available.

Golem to Stomp Onto PlayStation VR in November

It’s been a long time coming and hopefully it’ll have been worth the wait, as Highwire Games in collaboration with Perp Games has finally announced the launch date for PlayStation VR exclusive Golem.

Golem - Screenshot 6

The pair announced back in August that the launch would be taking place this Fall, but this time there are concrete dates. Yeah, there are multiple release dates in fact – just to make things tricky – with a European retail launch as a physical copy taking place on 8th November, with a North American one on or as close to that date as possible. As for the digital version, that will see a worldwide launch via PlayStation Store on 12th November.

Featuring music from award-winning composer Marty O’Donnell (Halo and Destiny soundtrack creator), the physical edition of Golem will also include a downloadable version of “Echoes of the First Dream” the musical prequel to the videogame.

“It’s so gratifying to see our original vision for Golem come together into a full experience. We’ve really had to push ourselves and the technology, but I think the game is beautiful and I can’t wait for everyone to be able to play it,” said  Jaime Griesemer, Creative Director at Highwire Games in a statement. “And we’re pretty old school, so it won’t feel ‘finished’ for us until we see it on store shelves.”

Golem - Screenshot 5

“Golem has been a long-time coming but the wait is almost over. It is our honour to be working with such an amazing team of world-class talent. We can’t wait to explore Golem’s secrets,” adds Managing Director of Perp Games, Rob Edwards.

Initially announced back in 2015 the title has seen numerous delays over the years, with launch windows coming and going as Highwire Games polished and refined the experience. You play as a kid called Twine who has been critically injured by a serious accident. Confined to your bed, you develop an extraordinary ability to create and control large stone golems and see the world through their eyes, going off on adventures collecting treasure and artefacts in an abandoned city.

Check out the new trailer below, and for any further updates to Golem, keep reading VRFocus.

Long-Delayed PSVR Exclusive Golem Finally Gets Release Date

It’s finally happening! We have the Golem release date!

Oddly enough Highwire Games’ long-delayed PSVR exclusive will be arriving first as a physical disc… in Europe. The game comes out on disc on November 8th, published by physical specialists, Perp Games. Perp is also aiming to bring it to North American stores either on or very close to that date.

But don’t worry digital lovers; the PlayStation Store release follows on November 12th.

Golem was first announced all the way back in 2015, before the PSVR itself had launched. It tells the story of a young girl confined to her room. She discovers the power to possess stone Golems, which she utilizes to access the outside world. Played with a Move controller, the game has you locking stone blades in combat with other Golems and more. We haven’t been hands-on with the game since 2017, so we’ll be eager to see if it still resembles earlier builds.

The game has been shaping up for an early 2018 release before a last-minute delay. At several points over the past 18 months we’d begun to worry it had been canceled. Thankfully it resurfaced at our E3 VR showcase earlier in the year. Highwire itself consists of developers that previously worked at Halo and Destiny developer, Bungie.

“It’s so gratifying to see our original vision for Golem come together into a full experience,” Jaime Griesemer, Creative Director at Highwire said in a prepared statement. “We’ve really had to push ourselves and the technology, but I think the game is beautiful and I can’t wait for everyone to be able to play it.”

We’ll be excited to finally check the game out in the coming weeks, then.

Golem Will be Released for PlayStation VR Fall 2019, in Digital and Physical Form

If there’s one videogame that’s synonymous with delay’s then it has to be Highwire Games’ Golem for PlayStation VR. Initially announced back in 2015, the title has seen various launch windows come and go over the past few years so when it reappears with a new date there’s definitely some trepidation. However, this week is very different, with Perp Games revealing that Golem will be heading for a digital and physical release Fall 2019.

Golem

The announcement by Perp Games certainly adds clout to the news as the company has a solid track record of physical videogame launches for PlayStation VR. This now makes Golem one of the most eagerly anticipated videogames of 2019 for the headset.

Golem’s story revolves around a kid called Twine who has been critically injured by a serious accident. Bedbound, Twine can build stone golems with which to explore, seeing through their eyes. Only able to build small doll-sized golems, to begin with, soon these special powers begin to grow, enabling massive 15-foot tall giants to be constructed. These large stone golems are able to explore an enormous abandoned city, collecting treasure and artefacts as well as engaging in one-to-one melee combat.

“It’s so gratifying to see our original vision for Golem come together into a full experience,” says Jaime Griesemer, Creative Director at Highwire in a statement. “We’ve really had to push ourselves and the technology, but I think the game is beautiful and I can’t wait for everyone to be able to play it. And we’re pretty old school, so it won’t feel ‘finished’ for us until we see it on store shelves.”

Golem

“Golem has been a long-time coming but the wait is almost over. It is our honour to be working with such an amazing team of world-class talent. We can’t wait to explore Golem’s secrets,” adds Rob Edwards, Managing Director of Perp Games.

No specific date has been given just yet. Perp Games is planning a dual European and North American launch of the physical version in the next few months. If you buy the hardcopy of Golem it will also include a downloadable version of “Echoes of the First Dream” the musical prequel to the videogame. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Golem, reporting back with any further updates.
