Win a Copy of Affected: The Manor for Oculus Quest

Affected: The Manor Logo-Web

If you love a good scare whether for Halloween or at any other time of year then virtual reality (VR) horror is where it’s at. As any VR gamer knows once that headset is on and the doors start to creak and the wind begins to howl, no other horror medium really compares. So to celebrate the spooky season VRFocus has got a bunch of codes to giveaway for Fallen Planet Studios’ Affected: The Manor on Oculus Quest.

Affected: The Manor

Becoming a horror favourite with VR fans since its initial release back in 2016 for Gear VR, the studio has kept the title up to date by expanding platform support as well as adding new elements to the experience. The title is set around the classic haunted manor, offering a sort of ‘walkthrough horror’ in the first instance.

But as VR has progressed so has Affected: The Manor. When the Oculus Quest version was first revealed last year the studio said: “To take advantage of Quest’s abilities, we brought hand avatars and interactivity to the experience for the first time, making you feel more ingrained in the environment.” This meant interacting with doors for example.

Then during the summer, the team released The Gauntlet, free DLC which allows players to speed run with randomised events for a new challenge. This month saw the launch of The Darkness update to coincide with the launch of Oculus Quest 2. A new gameplay mode, this provides players with only a candle as their source of light. Quest 2 also got some enhancements like dynamic lighting and improve visuals.

Affected: The Manor

And so onto the competition. VRFocus has 10 codes available for the Oculus Quest platform. All you need to do is follow us on Twitter and retweet this tweet ensuring that VRFocus and Affected VR are tagged. The competition will be open for 24 hours, closing at 6 pm GMT on Friday 30th October. Best of luck.

Competition: Win Either Angry Birds VR or Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! for Oculus Quest

Acron & Angry Birds VR_ Isle of Pigs Halloween Updates

It’s coming up to the season of giving and what better way to start the celebrations early than with a competition where you can win some videogames. Today’s giveaway is a double bill, with Resolution Games’ Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs and Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! up for grabs.

Angry Birds VR

Rovio’s iconic Angry Birds franchise came to VR in 2019 with a selection of core levels which have been expanded upon over time. One of the major updates to the bird flinging experience was the addition of a level builder late last year, followed by online sharing to massively enhance the gameplay possibilities.

Acron: Attack of the Squirrels! on the other hand, is a purely multiplayer experience. One person is in VR controlling a tree trying to protect its golden acorns from a bunch of thieving squirrels. All the squirrels are controlled by players on mobile devices – via a free app – who are able to select characters with particular traits such as burrowing short distances underground. All making for a fast and entertaining party game.

Most recently, Resolution Games released a Halloween update for both titles, adding new levels as well as spooky themes to get into the spirit of the season as a lot of developers like to do.

Acron: Attack of the Squirrels

So onto the competition. VRFocus has got six codes to give away, three for Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs and three for Acron: Attack of the Squirrels, both for the Oculus Quest platform. There are multiple ways to enter the giveaway with the standard prize draw entry rules applying: Follow us (or already be following us) on Twitter or alternatively, visit our Facebook page or YouTube channel to get an entry for each. Winners will receive a single randomly drawn code. Competition: Win Blaston For Oculus Quest

Blaston

Resolution Games has just launched its 12th videogame in the form of a duelling multiplayer called Blaston for Oculus Quest. And it just so happens that VRFocus has been given a few codes for some of our lucky readers to win.

Blaston

Blaston is a PvP shooter where two players try to whittle each others health bar by landing a few choice hits. The only problem, all the projectiles move in slow motion. This gives both of you a chance to dodge the shots and reply with your own volley.

Taking place on duelling platforms inside a futuristic arena, gameplay is all about being both light on your feet and tactile in how you return fire. A shotgun will fire tiny pellets in a widespread whilst others can drop in mortars or giant glowing orbs. Each weapon is single-use, so once the ammo is spent throw it away and choose another.

Winning battles means you can level up and earn credits which can be spent outside of the arena in the shop. New levels will unlock additional guns to buy so you can change up your tactics, as well as giving you access to character customisations.

Blaston

In its review, VRFocus said: Blaston is another one of the great examples that can only be made in VR and a perfect fit for Oculus Quest. The fast and furious gameplay is instantaneous, grab a gun and shoot it, with the real enjoyment coming from dodging all over the place.

So onto the competition. Today VRFocus is giving away 5 codes kindly donated by Resolution Games for Blaston on Oculus Quest. There are multiple ways to enter the giveaway with the standard prize draw entry rules applying: Follow us (or already be following us) on Twitter or alternatively, visit our Facebook page or YouTube channel to get an entry for each. Winners will receive a code for Blaston drawn randomly. The competition will be open until 11.59 pm BST on Monday 12th October 2020. The draw will be made shortly thereafter.

As an added bonus Resolution Games has a couple of Blaston merch boxes available. Two code winners will receive one each (only applicable for those in US or Europe). Best of luck.

Competition: Win Yourself a Copy of The Room VR: A Dark Matter on Steam

What a week of virtual reality (VR) videogame releases it has been. First, there was Valve’s Half-Life: Alyx which has pretty much stolen the show, then there was Paper Beast for PlayStation VR and let’s not forget Down the Rabbit HoleAnother exciting launch came from Fireproof Games, bringing it’s puzzle franchise The Room into VR for the first time with The Room VR: A Dark Matter. And as luck would have it, the studio has provided VRFocus with several Steam keys for our readers to win.

The Room VR: A Dark Matter

Taking what made the franchise great and giving it an immersive VR spin, The Room VR: A Dark Matter has its own unique storyline set in London, circa 1908, where you play a detective called to investigate a mysterious disappearance. A renown Egyptologist has vanished from the British Institute of Archaeology whilst working on his latest find. As with all The Room  videogames, this has occurred thanks to strange, dark magic.

Players have to scour the locations for clues, solving evermore elaborate puzzles as the campaign progresses. They’ll be able to employ some fantastical gadgets to aid their investigation, which will throw up a few surprises. Built specifically for VR, Fireproof Games has made the puzzles and the experience as a whole nicely interactive, employing the unique features of VR. Additionally, using a node-based teleportation system ensures the locomotion in The Room VR: A Dark Matter is comfortable for all.

Giving The Room VR: A Dark Matter a solid four stars, VRFocus said in its review: “Varied environments filled with detail, rich lore and polished puzzles prove that The Room VR: A Dark Matter is an essential VR puzzler for all fans of the genre.”

Scraper: First Strike PSVR

In both titles you play a member of the Human Resistance Force (HRF), fighting a deadly war against the Humech’s, robot’s controlled by a powerful AI that doesn’t like humanity. While they are both first-person shooters (FPS) their gameplay is decidedly different. In Scraper: First Strike you pilot a Modified Hover Pod, a mobile weapons platform bristling with guns.

Inside this armoured weapons platform, you’re given free rein to explore the levels and hunt down enemies. With an 8 hour+ single-player campaign, Scraper: First Strike offers role-playing game (RPG) style elements, where you have to locate Blueprints to build new weapons, while the parts needed can be scavenged from robots and crates which can also be used to upgrade health and energy systems on the hover pod.

Scraper: Gauntlet, on the other hand, does away with all the exploration and concentrates on the action. The gameplay centres on a secret weapon codenamed TWS (Tri – Weapon System). Offering plenty of customisation options not only to its features but also the stats, Scraper: Gauntlet is all about finding your preferred loadout and shooting waves of robots. VRFocus gave the title a four-star review, saying: “If you’re after a VR title that’s big on adventure and elaborate quests then videogames like StormlandBorderlands 2 VRThe Mage’s Tale, Asgard’s Wrath and others offer that sort of experience. It’s almost Christmas and as is tradition, it’s a time of giving, so VRFocus and OZWE Games have come together for a special competition. If you happen to own the rather popular Oculus Quest headset then this is the giveaway for you, with Death Lap codes to win.

Death Lap

The latest title from the Anshar Wars developer, Death Lap is a vehicular combat racer pitting players in a dangerous gameshow which results in death or glory. Competition: Win Fujii for PlayStation VR

One of the more bizarre virtual reality (VR) titles to appear this year was Funktronic Labs’ Fujii, a sort of relaxing gardening-style experience which initially launched for PC VR and Oculus Quest headsets. Today, it’s the turn of PlayStation VR to delve into this floral habitat and thanks to the developer VRFocus has got some codes to giveaway.

Fujii - PSVR

Already an award-winning titleFujii takes place in a surreal world made up of vivid organic landscapes. Offering a serene, almost mystical journey accompanied by a small gnome who loves to play a few tunes on its guitar, stress-free gaming is the order of the day here.

The gameplay is centred around a giant tree which acts as your hub world, from where you can explore several biomes, collecting seeds to bring back and grow your own garden. That’s only a small part of the Fujii experience as you need to bring life back to these biomes with a little bit of light puzzle solving, music and cultivation. Solving puzzles expands a ring of light which restores life, while the plants respond to touch, emitting musical notes to play with. All aided by an interactive soundtrack by French composer Norman Bambi.

Deep exploration of the biomes will uncover new seeds to use in your garden, with rare exotic plants to find as well as new creatures to encounter.

It might not be Christmas just yet but VRFocus is still in the mood for giving, so we’ve teamed up with virtual reality (VR) developer DGMA to offer lucky readers the chance to win a Steam code for first-person shooter (FPS) Galactic Rangers VR.

Galactic Rangers VR

Unleash rocket launchers, laser beams, rapid-fire autocannon and swarm rockets, or deploy shields should any foe get a shot off.
