EVE Fanfest 2017 Tickets Now on Sale

CCP Games has announced that tickets are now available for the thirteenth EVE Fanfest, the annual celebration of all things EVE Online, including travel packages with flight, hotel, and car rental deals for loyal fans. Set to take place 6th-8th April 2017, CCP Games will host its fans in celebrating company’s 20th birthday celebration.

EVE: Valkyrie

CCP Games was formed in 1996 and released EVE Online in the early days of massively multiplayer online (MMO) videogames in 2003. Over the intervening years, EVE Online has been in aggressive and continuous development, and has lead to the release of two virtual reality (VR) spin-offs, EVE Valkyrie and Gunjack, with two more on currently in development.

During the annual gathering of its players in Reykjavik, Iceland, home of the EVE Online development team, fans celebrate the virtual worlds of the EVE universe in a grand style. This year CCP is promising an extra-impressive EVE Fanfest for EVE Online capsuleers, EVE: Valkyrie pilots, Gunjack turret operators and their friends and family at the stunning Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Center. Unique EVE Fanfest events will supplement keynotes, panels, development presentations, PvP tournaments, videogame demos, round tables, a developer-led pub crawl, the infamous Party on Top of the World, and unprecedented access to the company’s development teams.

Celebrating the CONCORD theme for EVE Fanfest 2017, players who purchase tickets before 1st January 2017 will get a unique CONCORD Enforcer cruiser, all EVE Fanfest attendees will get a CONCORD Pacifier Frigate, and those that attend EVE Fanfest and EVE Vegas 2017 will get a CONCORD Marshal Battleship. The ships will also be available to the rest of the EVE Online community via different means later in the year.

Gunjack 2 Title

More announcements about EVE Fanfest 2017 will be made over the next several months, as well as the schedule for the free livestream. Interested fans can visit http://fanfest.eveonline.com for more information, and VRFocus will keep you updated with any VR experiences set to be showcased at the event.

CCP Games’ EVE: Valkyrie Coming to HTC Vive Next Month

There’s some good news coming for HTC Vive owners next month, EVE: Valkyrie developer CCP Games has recently announced the title is set to arrive next month.

The studio hasn’t revealed when during November the online multiplayer videogame will launch, simply stating: “We’ve also got some big celebrations planned for that weekend; all pilots on all platforms are invited.”

EVE Valkyrie - Teaser Image

EVE: Valkyrie originally launched for Oculus Rift when the headset arrived on  28th March, and since then several updates have been released including Carrier Assault and Joint Strike. One of the biggest features touted for the videogame is its cross platform support. It was also a launch title for Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) PlayStation VR earlier this month, and when EVE: Valkyrie lands on HTC Vive players across all three platforms will be able to head into combat.

CCP Games also teased a new image (seen above) showcasing some massive spaceships located in what looks like an ice field. No details where provided for the picture but the developer has said to keep an eye out for the SIE PlayStation Experience live-stream on 4th December.

Further information on the HTC Vive launch in November are due to be released soon, so keep reading VRFocus for all the latest updates.

‘EVE: Valkyrie’ Arrives on Vive Very, Very Soon, New Content Teased

CCP Games’ EVE: Valkyrie enjoyed a successful launch on PlayStation VR earlier this month, but it still has one headset left to conquer: the HTC Vive.

After a long wait for the SteamVR version of the online dogfighter, CCP this weekend confirmed that it will be releasing in November during its EVE Vegas event. A specific date has not been given, but that news will come as a relief to Vive fans that were promised the game was coming earlier in the year. That is if they haven’t already been playing the game through the ReVive hack already.

CCP hasn’t announced if the new version will support the headset’s position-tracked wands or any roomscale features, though back in April we reported that the company was looking into it. We’ve reached out to the developer about this and will update this story if we hear back.

What fans will be able to do is play with PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift pilots through the game’s recently released cross-play update.

Also teased at EVE Vegas was new content for the game. Judging by the image above, it appears that another map, the second to be released since the game’s initial launch, could be on the way. The developer wouldn’t say any more about it, but did suggest that it will share some news at December’s PlayStation Experience event on December 4th.

Perhaps, though, this could relate to an official announcement surrounding the company’s futuristic sports title, codenamed Project Arena. Revealed back at GDC in March, this two-player game has you competing in Tron-like events, throwing neon rings at each other and trying to block them. It’s been shown on Vive and Rift already, but job listings have suggested it’s also coming to PS VR.

Elsewhere in EVE world, Gunjack 2: End of Shift is also expected to launch on Google Daydream in the very near future.

CCP Games Puts You in the Cockpit As a Real Legendary Fighter in This Trailer

Virtual reality (VR) is something that we are reaching to in order to escape our own reality, and that is what CCP Games really visualises in this trailer for EVE: Valkyrie which was released just one day after the release of it on PlayStation VR.

Below you can check out the trailer whree you can see how flying your own aircraft has dated back from the World Wars, showing vintage footage, where pilots became heroes. Pilots were brave and daring, and they were guardians and protectors – and that is exactly the kind of role you will be taking up when you get on board with EVE: Valkyrie. There are plenty of parallels to draw with what we experience in real life to what you experience in this title, and that is what CCP Games is getting you to realise in this.

Learn the Art of Dogfighting in Latest EVE: Valkyrie Trailer

With the launch of PlayStation VR yesterday PlayStation 4 owners now have the chance to dive into some dogfighting action on EVE: Valkyrie. CCP Games’ much vaunted space combat videogame originally launched on the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), so with the cross-play feature between the two headsets Rift owners have a bit of a head start. Not to worry though as the developer has created a video guide to dogfighting.

The video goes through the basics of staying alive when under fire and the best tactics for hunting down those pesky enemies.

EVE Valkyrie Screenshot

First and for most players need to take their time, a little planning goes along way. EVE: Valkyrie features a permanent forward motion system which can then be added to with a boost. This boost isn’t infinite and its likely quite a few players will use it to get straight into the action, but if they get in trouble the boost isn’t then available. The studio advises holding onto it until the last moment, when its most needed, so use that time to gauge the surroundings for cover. And if the craft is equipped with homing missiles this is a great time to unleash some carnage.

It then goes into some of the finer details of flight control, how combining braking, boosting, tight turning circles rather than wide sweeps and the selective use of cover can make all the difference.

The Best of PlayStation VR Launch: Multiplayer Games

Tomorrow’s the day, and boy have we had a great selection of games in our guide, and to finish it all up here is the guide for what you should be playing to make the most of your PlayStation VR with your friends.

Check out below why we have chosen Rebellion’s Battlezone, CCP Games’ EVE: Valkyrie, and Guerilla Games’ RIGS: Mechanized Combat League.

Battlezone – Rebellion Developments

Battlezone has the advantage of being based off of a classic arcade tanker title of the same title, and Rebellion has done a grand job of bringing it to the platform it was first made for – VR. The gameplay is effortless but the enemies and level designs really make you work for your success. The visuals are incredible and simply just work, and paired with your cockpit that is full of all your vital info, there is very little to point out that could be negative. Playing this with your friends just makes sense.

Battlezone

EVE: Valkyrie – CCP Games

We  have already recommended EVE: Gunjack as one of the top shooters to get for launch day, but don’t think that we have missed out EVE: Valkyrie because this is one that should always be considered. Flying around with other players as you commence brutal space dogfights is something that will fuel endless enjoyment. With Carrier Assault included as default, there is so much that this title has to offer that isn’t as technical as something like Elite Dangerous, but it has some real fun factors mixed in with tactical decision making.

EVE Valkyrie - Carrier Assault

RIGS: Mechanized Combat League – Guerrilla Games

This is different from the other titles listed here as each player can specialise in a certain type of robot, which will inevitably end with absolute chaos from everyone finding each robot’s weaknesses and strengths. What else could you want to bond over other than fighting robots flying, jumping, and kicking each others’ butts in the sky? Nothing, that’s what.

The Best of PlayStation VR Launch: Shooting Games

There’s no denying it: shooting games are going to be the most popular and dense section in the PlayStation Store. But with all of this choice, and you wanting the best games that will be out there from day one, you have to take it from us which titles are unmissable.

Check out the list below for why exactly we have chosen the retro Rez Infinite from Enhance Games, EVE: Valkyrie from CCP Games, and World War Toons from Studio Roqovan Inc.

Rez Infinite –  Enhance Games

This isn’t your usual harsh and gritty looking shoot-em-up type of title, and you can tell that from the psychedelic aesthetics, but there is so much soul attached to it as it is the long awaited sequel to the Dreamcast title Rez. This is something that you will quickly and easily be sucked into, from its intriguing look down to its playability – there’s also a pretty sweet merch line for it, too.

Rez Infinite 13

EVE: Gunjack – CCP Games

I know what you’re thinking – what about EVE: Valkyrie? Well, EVE: Gunjack has something spectacular about it that we most certainly didn’t want you missing out on it or overlooking it in any way, especially as it was only recently announced as a launch title. This is pretty one-tracked, but there is much skill needed in order to complete your mission. Imagine this: You take on the role of a gun turret operator on the Kubera, the largest mining vessel ever constructed, in the Outer Ring region of known space. It is up to you to protect the base from pirates and such, resulting in crazy shoot outs. Just look at it – it is beautiful.

World War Toons – Studio Roqovan Inc.

You may have noticed that Reload Studios has given itself a whole new revamp, calling itself Studio Roqovan Inc., so this means that the studio is all about big business now, and that is exactly what World War Toons reflects. You jump into a crazy cartoon world where you’re surrounded by unique characters, all in the time setting of World War II – except it is not quite the same. There are different classes that you can choose from, similar to most multiplayer FPS titles, and boy do each of them make a different impact. This is one of the best as it has been developed for a while, and by a very able team, many of which are Call of Duty veterans – so they really know what shooters are all about. Have we also mentioned it has a badass trailer?

EVE: Valkyrie Gets PlayStation VR Launch Trailer a Week Before Release

It’s one week until the release of the first console virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), the PlayStation VR, and we have finally gotten the official trailer for one of the most anticipated titles for it, CCP Games’ EVE: Valkyrie.

There was plenty of hype back in April while the EVE Fanfest was happening, but fans perhaps couldn’t have imagined the official trailer to be this cool. It has everything that could make it a cinematic success: cool music, slow-mo walking as a group, and tons of explosions while you dominate space in vicious dogfights.

PlayStation VR will be officially launching on 13th October, and EVE: Valkyrie will be one of its numerous launch titles. If you’re wondering what to buy and play on the PlayStation VR if you have pre-ordered it, then check out VRFocus‘ guide.

Daydream Exclusive Gunjack 2: End of Shift Coming this November

Daydream View has now been revealed to the world at a Google event in San Francisco, California. The short conference focused on the hardware the company is currently developing along with a small roster of software for the new head-mounted display (HMD). The one videogame to feature was CCP Games’ Gunjack 2 (previously Gunjack NEXT) which showcased use of the Daydream controller. Now CCP Games has revealed further information n the title.

The videogame is now called Gunjack 2: End of Shift and it’ll be a Daydream exclusive. Developed by CCP’s Shanghai studio, Gunjack 2: End of Shift utilises the Daydream controller to aim and shoot down the hordes of enemies that fly in, deploy special weapons and activate shields. A new feature over the previous title are daily generated missions, ensuring an extra replayability factor for gamers.

“We are extremely excited for the Daydream platform and what it means for VR” said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP. “Collaborating with Google and developing Gunjack 2 for their VR platform has been an amazing experience. We started a new chapter for CCP a year ago with the launch of our first VR title, and now the upcoming release of its sequel on the Daydream platform bears testament to our commitment to VR in gaming and entertainment.”

“Gunjack 2’s core gameplay is all about destroying masses of enemies, and Google’s Daydream controller allows us to make that experience even more natural and fun,” said Jean-Charles Gaudechon, executive producer of Gunjack 2: End of Shift. “In Gunjack 2, we’re pushing the limits of what a mobile VR game can be.”

Just like the original Gunjack, in Gunjack 2: End of Shift players take control of a ship mounted turret on a vast mining ship called the Kubera. It’s up to players to defend to ship at all costs.

As VRFocus learns more about Gunjack 2: End of Shift, we’ll bring you the latest details.
