Make VR Even More Inviting With the Oculus Referral Program

In the consumer retail world referral programmes are a great way of drumming up extra business, partially because it relies on good old word of mouth, and some discount incentives. Ahead of the busy festive season, Oculus has chosen to launch its own referral initiative.

Oculus Go GDC Promo 03The Oculus Referral Program is designed to make purchasing a new VR headset cheaper whilst giving current owners credit towards new content.

Oculus explains how the process works: “When your friend purchases Oculus Rift or Oculus Go through your invitation, they will get 10% off their purchase. Thirty days following the date your friend’s order is shipped, you’ll automatically get $30 USD in Oculus Store credit for an Oculus Rift referral or $20 USD in Oculus Store credit for an Oculus Go referral, applicable towards purchases of digital content from the Oculus Store. Limit 3 invites per user.”

So that could mean up to an additional $90 in your Oculus Store account – if you got three friends contemplating buying an Oculus Rift.

Oculus Rift & TouchDo take note of the terms though, especially the last sentence: “Oculus Store credits have no cash value, can only be used for purchases of digital content in the Oculus Store, and expire one year from date of issuance. You will not receive Oculus Store credit in the event a purchase made through your invitation is returned within thirty (30) days of date of purchase.” That 30 day delay will most likely mean you’ll miss the Oculus Store winter sale if you do make any referrals.

It’s also worth noting that for those interested in a headset Black Friday may offer a better deal (last year the Oculus Rift went down to $349), plus check if your country is eligible – currently, the offer isn’t available here in the UK.
