The strategy genre has got a new lease of life from the rise of virtual reality (VR). Titles such as Brass Tactics and Korix have begun to explore the possibilities offered by a new perspective for the genre, now the developers behind Arizona Sunshine are also getting involved with the release of real-time strategy title Skyworld.
Skyworld puts the player in the role of a King, overlooking a map of their kingdom, making decisions on where to send units, what buildings can be built or siege engines created to lay waste to the enemy faction. The title uses a fantasy setting, so you can expect to see knight in armour, castles and yes, even dragons as you upgrade and command your armies.
Presented like a 3D battle map, the campaign map allows players to walk around it to get a better view of the terrain so better decisions on the next move can be made. Players can choose to engage with the single-player story mode, where the aim is to free the other Skyworlds from enemy forces to reunite the worlds. Alternatively, players can go one-on-one against another player, either in a simple skirmish mode, or for some more involved battle, the online cross-platform multiplayer is available.
The developers behind Skyworld will be hosting a Reddit AMA on 17th October, 2017 at 10pm CST/1pm PST to give players a chance to ask questions about the title. Further information can also be found on the official Skyworld website, or from the Vertigo Games Twitch stream of the first level.
Skyworld is available now on Steam, there is a 25% launch discount available that reduces the price to £23.24 (GBP) from the usual price of £30.99. Skyworld is compatible with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality devices.
VRFocus will bring you further news on Skyworld as it becomes available.
