PlayStation VR Mega Pack Bundle Coming to EU With 5 Games

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) are well known for putting together interesting deals and bundles for virtual reality (VR) headset PlayStation VR. A lot tend to be North American-based like the recent Borderlands 2 VR and Beat Saber Bundle, but now European customers will be getting their own specialised offer. SIE has announced the PlayStation VR Mega Pack bundle which will feature five top titles.

The new bundle will include the headset, PlayStation Camera, and voucher codes to digitally download the following five titles: Astro Bot Rescue Mission, WipEout Omega Collection, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, Doom VFR, and PlayStation VR Worlds.

That’s quite the variety of gameplay types, with the excellent Astro Bot Rescue Mission probably the most sought after of the bunch since it launched in October with rave reviews. VRFocus gave it a solid four stars in our review saying: “it is a great old-school platformer for the VR era, bringing some of the best features of both 2D and 3D platformers of old and incorporating VR in a way that doesn’t feel awkward. This is a fun, lighthearted way to spend some time in VR, and worth checking out.”

WipEout Omega Collection naturally offers a much more intense experience thanks to its blisteringly fast racing speeds, so it’s well worth playing after you’ve got used to VR somewhat.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR is where a lot of gamers will likely spend their time as it offers the most gameplay time,  with its heavy role-playing game (RPG) mechanics there’s plenty to see and do in this massive VR experience.

Or for those after a bit more visceral, gun-toting videogame then Doom VFR has all that you need. Gaining a full five stars in VRFocus’ review, we said: “Ultimately DOOM VFR stands as a fine example of just what can be achieved with the FPS genre in VR as of today, lining-up against Robo Recall as an action-heavy experience that throws the rulebook out of the window.”

Lastly there’s original launch title PlayStation VR Worlds, which features a selection of smaller games and is a great way of introducing people to the VR experience.

The PlayStation VR Mega Pack bundle is due to launch in the UK on Monday 3rd December and 4th December in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. No official price has yet been given although some retailers have it listed for €329.00 EUR/ £290 GBP (most likely a place holder). When the official price is announced VRFocus will let you know.

Grab This PlayStation VR Deal With Move Controllers and Firewall Zero Hour for £230

It might be the week where everyone is talking about new standalone headset Oculus Quest but that’s not likely to worry Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and its PlayStation VR. The headset has seen over 3 million sold and with this limited time deal a few more are likely to go out.

Currently UK retailer Argos has quite the offer for those interested in purchasing PlayStation VR. For £229.99 GBP you can pickup a PlayStation VR V2 with VR Worlds Mega Starter Bundle – which includes the videogame and PlayStation Camera – then add-on a PlayStation Move Twin Pack – worth £69.99 – for free and then select one of three titles, Wipeout Omega Collection, Firewall Zero Hour or The Persistence for free as well. These retail for £29.99, £24.99 and £15.99 respectively, so you can save a maximum of £100 in the deal.

Obviously with a deal like this time is short, with Argos only offering it until 3rd October 2018. It’s one of the best VRFocus has seen for sometime especially for UK customers – SIE tends to do more deals for the US market.

As for the videogames, Wipeout Omega Collection is certainly a fan favourite offering high speed racing and the VR version has an added treat, three new VR exclusive ships in HD, Fury and 2048 classes have been included. But Wipeout Omega Collection may not be for everyone due to its hectic nature.

Currently very popular is another PlayStation VR exclusive, Firewall Zero Hour. Having hit the top download spot for August, the tactical first-person shooter (FPS) is purely multiplayer, but developer First Contact Entertainment does recommend the PlayStation Aim controller which costs extra.

Or for those who like a few frights then there’s always sci-fi horror The Persistence. With procedurally generated levels each playthrough is never quite the same, plus there’s a companion mobile app allowing friends to join in and either help or hinder the VR player.

VRFocus will continue to keep its eye out for the latest deals and offers from around the world.

A Free Demo of WipEout Omega Collection is Now Available

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) launched virtual reality (VR) support for the WipEout Omega Collection a couple of months ago, bringing high speed racing to the PlayStation VR. Today, SIE has announced a free demo for all PlayStation 4 owners, allowing them to sample the iconic racer before purchase.

Wipeout VR

The US PlayStation Blog has announced that the WipEout Omega Collection demo is available today, whilst the EU PlayStation Blog has said the demo will roll out tomorrow for European players.

The demo includes the traditional Feisar ship, and the new Feisar VR ship, both playable on two different tracks as single races, the blinding sunset of Vineta K from Wipeout HD, and the stomach churning vertical drops and jumps of Altima from Wipeout 2048.

While videogames such as Gran Turismo Sport only let players access part of the title in VR, WipEout Omega Collection is fully playable from start to finish with PlayStation VR. As an added treat three new VR exclusive ships in HD, Fury and 2048 classes have been included.

The PlayStation Blogs recommend that: “For new players we’d recommend the default ‘Lock Camera To Cockpit’ controls. This ensures the most comfortable ride. For seasoned VR players, why not give ‘Lock Camera to Pilot’ a go where you can experience what it would be like to drive an AG craft in real life. You’ll literally feel every twist and turn as you move with the ship, and yes, when you barrel roll you can spin 360 degrees.”

For VRFocus’ European readers who have to wait another 24 hours why not check out the gameplay video we recorded in the 2048 mode and piloting the Feisar ship in its classic yellow and blue livery, racing through the Empire Climb track. Racing Towards the Future In WipEout Omega Collection Gameplay Video

WipEout attracted immediate attention upon its initial release, with its sharp, futuristic designs and a soundtrack that featured a host of well-known names from the immensely popular techno and rave scenes, like Leftfield and Orbital. Since the rise of modern virtual reality (VR) fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting WipEout in VR, and now it is finally here.

Whilst WipEout Omega Collection was not developed for the ground up for VR, unlike Gran Turismo Sport, VR capabilities are not limited to just one singular mode. Instead, the entire gameplay experience is available in VR, allowing players to try out the HD, Fury or 2048 modes in glorious VR.

Wipeout VR

Originally announced during Sony Interactive Entertainment’s PlayStation Experience event, the news that WipEout Omega Collection would be coming to VR was met with great anticipation among fans, who believed that WipEout was a perfect fit for VR.

Today’s VRFocus gameplay video shows what WipeOut Omega Collection looks like when engaging in VR mode. In the 2048 mode and piloting the iconic Feisar ship in its classic yellow and blue livery, we show a look at a race through the Empire Climb track, which features tall, futuristic buildings, strange-looking inflatables hanging in the sky and the characteristic WipEout impossibly steep turns and gravity-defying near-vertical tracks.

PlayStation VR owners who already have WipEout Omega Collection can get the VR update for free, which comes with a complete 3D audio overhaul, and extra music track in the form of a Vieille Griffe remix of Shake It.

For those who haven’t yet picked up a copy, WipEout Omega Collection is currently available on the PlayStation Store priced at £29.99 (GBP). In addition, the price of the PlayStation VR has been dropped to £259.99, this seems like a great time to get involved in the VR scene.
