Resolution Games, the VR developers and publisher behind Demeo, Blaston and the upcoming sports game Ultimechs, today revealed that 2021 has been a record-breaking year for the company in both revenue and game downloads. The studio also announced the acquisition of Stockholm-based indie Zenz VR, which is known for VR zombie shooter HordeZ.
Resolution Games says 2021 was its fifth consecutive year of profitability, something the company says has allowed it to reinvest into growth in development capabilities and personnel. Now the company says it employs 158 workers, with that number projected to surpass 200 by the end of the year.
Over the course of 2021, Resolution Games says it’s quadrupled growth in game revenues and tripled total game downloads across all platforms compared to 2020.
The studio has also recently expanded to the US with its Austin, Texas-based subsidiary, Resolution Games Inc., which is headed by president and co-founder, Paul Brady.
In a press statement, the studio says its acquisition of Zenz VR is “talent-focused,” as it doesn’t include Zenz VR’s existing and in-development IP.
The studio says the addition of “select members” of Zenz’s team have been absorbed into the company’s AR division. This includes Zenz founder Niklas Persson, who has a background as producer and designer on Battlefield 1942.
Resolution Games is a pioneer in the VR space, having led with titles such as Bait! (2016) and Wonderglade (2017) on Gear VR. More recently the company has focused on multiplayer games, with Blaston (2020) and Demeo (2021) being the most successful of the bunch. The company’s upcoming sports game, Ultimechs, is set to continue the studio’s focus on multiplayer games. The futuristic Rocket League-style game serves up 2v2 multiplayer matches that require you to rocket-punch a ball into your opposition’s goal.
Developers Resolution Games unveiled their upcoming VR sport Ultimechs in late 2021, although it wasn’t clear from the cinematic trailer exactly what sort of game we were dealing with. Now the studio has tossed out its first gameplay trailer, showing off some very Rocket League-inspired action mixed with teleporting, missile-firing mechs.
Ultimechs promises to serve up 2v2 multiplayer matches which is said to be based on “precise punches and impeccable reaction times,” the studio says in a press statement.
Here’s how Resolution games describes the action:
“Ultimechs puts players in control of state-of-the-art machines designed for speed and power. Working alongside a teammate, each competitor pilots their mech in pursuit of a massive superball as it ricochets its way around the arena. Using quick movements to stay on top of the ball and one step ahead of opponents, victory comes with a rocket-powered fist being aimed, shot and steered into the superball, slamming it into the goal. The precision, impeccable reaction times and lightning-fast calculations required to come out on top are sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats.”
Resolution Games CEO Tommy Palm compares it to wielding a guided missile and “changing direction on-the-fly as you try to strike a target in mid-air at just the right angle.”

Although focused on 2v2 gameplay, Ultimechs is said to also include a 1v1 mode. The game is still slated to arrive sometime this year on “major VR platforms,” so it seems there’s still much to learn.
At least for now, the studio says it’s available for Steam wishlisting, so it will be on PC VR headsets. The game’s previous trailer also showed a user donning a Quest 2, so it’s likely coming to that platform as well.
Resolution Games has tapped into multiplayer VR genre recently with a number of competitive and co-op experiences, such as Blaston, Demeo, Acron: Attack of the Squirrels, and Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale. As a pioneering VR studio, this transition to multiplayer games makes for a solid barometer in where the industry is currently.
Resolution Games teased Ultimechs – its next virtual reality (VR) multiplayer – back in November, as an arena-based eSport with robots. Today, the studio has released the first official gameplay video for Ultimechs, showcasing fast and competitive team-based action.
Ultimechs will be a high-performance 2v2 (or 1v1) sport where players take control of huge robots. They’ll then try to score as many goals as possible by smashing a giant ball around the arena. Players do this by manoeuvring between set points in the arena, firing and then remotely controlling rocket-powered fists to punch the ball.
Very different to Resolution Games’ latest VR title Demeo, the Ultimechs announcement still leaves a few questions unanswered such as whether the different robots are purely cosmetic or whether they have different traits. There’s also no mention of multiple arenas or the possible spectator mode that was previously hinted at.
“Imagine guiding a missile and changing direction on-the-fly as you try to strike a target in mid-air at just the right angle,” said Tommy Palm, founder and CEO, of Resolution Games in a statement. “That’s the Ultimechs experience. It’s about guiding rocket-powered fists to find that Superball sweet spot, knocking it out of your opponent’s reach and into the goal.
“With Ultimechs, we wanted to make something that was fast, fun, and always better with friends,” Palm continues. “Ultimechs is all about those moments that can only happen on a team, like setting up shots for your partner to rack up the points, or guarding the net while your teammate calculates their best offensive move. We’re looking forward to seeing some fierce competitions out there!”
Currently, Resolution Games has confirmed that Ultimechs will be a PC VR title as you can now wishlist it on Steam. The studio also mentions that the launch later in 2022 will be for “major VR platforms” which suggests Meta Quest 2 may also get support. For continued updates on Ultimechs keep reading gmw3.
We’ve just got our first look at gameplay from Resolution Games’ next title, Ultimechs.
Just over a minute of footage is below, giving us our first proper look at the game, which mixes elements of Rocket League with giant war machines in arena-style matches. Based on the trailer, it’s shaping up pretty much as you’d expect.
Ultimechs Gameplay Revealed
Ultramech’s core concept is pretty simple: it’s soccer but, instead of kicking the ball, you fire rockets to knock it into the goal. Players take aim and fire but, once they’ve pulled the trigger, they’re able to guide the trajectory of the attack to hit the ball from different directions. There’s certainly some potential for complex strategies in this mechanic.
In the trailer, two teams of two go head-to-head in unique mechs, though the game will also support 1 v 1. Players can travel between nodes on a map, giving the game a table football feel. It’s not confirmed yet, but it’ll be interesting to see if different mechs might come with different abilities or customization options.
Resolution Games still says Ultimechs is coming to “major VR platforms”. Currently, though, the game’s only confirmed for SteamVR. A Quest version is a safe bet, though, and we could perhaps see the game come to PSVR 2 in the future, given the developer’s interest. For now, the game’s scheduled for a 2022 release, but no final date has been revealed just yet.
What did you make of the Ultimechs gameplay? Let us know in the comments below!
Another year is over and what a year 2021 was. Great videogames and awesome new tech but those pandemic issues never subsided so bring on the metaverse. Now isn’t the time to reminisce, now’s the time to look ahead and when it comes to virtual reality (VR) titles on the horizon there is plenty to get excited about. Here are the ones VRFocus is most interested in playing.
Moss: Book II
Make no mistake the original Moss by Polyarc was an awesome VR title so the news that its sequel Moss: Book II is due for release this coming Spring is exciting news.
Continuing the tale of Quill, the little mouse with a big heart, Moss: Book II is a puzzle adventure only confirmed for PlayStation VR at the moment. Having rescued her uncle Argus in the first instalment, this time around Quill must end the merciless rule of the Arcane whilst confronting a winged tyrant hunting her within the hexed castle where her uncle was held captive. Offering new locations and puzzles to solve, Moss: Book II is set to include new features like a nature attunement ability to grow new pathways and a huge hammer to cause some destruction.
Needless to say, Moss: Book II should be on every PlayStation VR owners most wanted list.
Teasing its next project back in November, Ultimechs is going to be a futuristic sports experience mashing together robots with football (soccer). Only a few teasing details have been released so far showcasing rocket-powered fists, 2v2 action and some highly competitive gameplay.
Looking like a far more dynamic experience than Resolution Games’ other competitive sci-fi videogame Blaston, Ultimechs will allow you to move around an arena, giving it a much more esports vibe. Considering the studios’ expertise in this VR field, Ultimechs could well become a “must-have” VR multiplayer next year.
Supported headset(s): ???
Release date: 2022
Ultrawings 2
The original Ultrawings was a beloved classic so there’s plenty of excitement regarding the sequel. Developer Bit Planet Games has spent four years working on Ultrawings 2 and says it’ll be: “3X the gameplay of the original”.
Mixing arcade gameplay with simulator mechanics, Ultrawings 2 is set to feature four planes and one helicopter with hundreds of missions to test your flying skills on. From popping balloons with a dart pistol and stunt plane aerobatics to air-to-air combat shooting down drones in the fighter plane, there should be plenty to keep players entertained. They’ll also have their pick of control schemes. Whether that’s a normal gamepad, using their virtual hands to grab the cockpit controls or going fully immersive using a HOTAS setup, Ultrawings 2 will balance fun with realistic flying.
VRFocus can’t wait to get back into the skies again.
Supported platform(s): Meta Quest, PC VR
Release date: February 2022
Green Hell VR
Creepy Jar’s survival adventure Green Hell is coming to VR headsets thanks to Incuvo in 2022, remastering the control scheme for fully immersive gaming.
Heading to Meta Quest and PC VR headsets – a PlayStation VR version has also been mentioned – Green Hell VR drops you in a lush jungle with all the dangers you’d expect for the Amazon rainforest. Survive by foraging for food, learn how to build shelters, make tools, and craft weapons to defend yourself from whatever lurks in the undergrowth as you try to find a way out.
Being rebuilt for VR means that Green Hell VR has the kind of physical control system you’d expect from Incuvo, wrap your injuries with leaves, draw your bow to kill predators and light fires by sparking rock together. It’s all about enveloping you in the jungle experience so what’s not to look forward to?
Supported platform(s): Meta Quest, PC VR
Release date: Q1 2022
NERF Ultimate Championship
Another multiplayer with some exciting potential is NERF Ultimate Championship for Meta Quest. Initially unveiled during E3 2021 by Secret Location, the first proper look at the arena shooter came only a few short weeks ago with a gameplay reveal trailer.
A 4 vs 4, team-based VR experience, NERF Ultimate Championship will encourage players to navigate arenas in a parkour-like fashion with plenty of wall running and jumping. Of course, this being an official NERF tie-in players will have access to a wide variety of NERF blasters to choose from, each featuring manual reloading, revving triggers, dual-wielding capabilities. There’s also unique dart physics to be aware of.
From the looks of it, NERF Ultimate Championship is going to take all those regular NERF battles and up the action, in ways only VR can.
Supported platform(s): Meta Quest
Release date: 2022
Hubris
Originally due for release this year, Cyborn’s rather gorgeous Hubris is now due to hit PC VR headsets at some point next year. Aiming for very high-end, sci-fi VR adventuring, Hubris looks like it could very well be the Lone Echo II of 2022.
Promising a fully explorable world where you can climb, swim, jump and run around as you please, VRFocusdemoed Hubris a couple of months ago, finding a promising experience that was very pretty to look at. Visuals aside, there was plenty of physical activity where you could climb cliff faces, swim underwater and harpoon creatures as well as platforming sections.
One route that Cyborn has said it’s taking with the videogame is that it’ll be episodic, which may or may not work in its favour. If you’ve ever wanted Halo in VR – and who hasn’t? – then Hubris may just fill that hole, so long as there’s enough of it.
Supported platform(s): PC VR, PlayStation VR
Release date: 2022
SIN
Love your horror? SIN is the follow up to the popular The Exorcist: Legion VR where you play as a detective going up against demonic forces. Fun Train has teamed up with Pocket Money Games for this project. SIN stands for “Safety in Numbers” and as that implies you won’t be alone this time around.
No gameplay details have been revealed just yet but SIN will continue the narrative from the previous episodes, so it’s going to be scary at the very least. Teaming up with a friend – or braving it solo – SIN is the only horror VRFocusknows of for 2022 and should be in good hands.
Supported platform(s): Meta Quest, PlayStation VR
Release date: Late 2022
Wanderer
Another one delayed from 2021, Wanderer is a joint project between New Zealand-based studios M Theory and Oddboy.
Wanderer is a time-travelling adventure with a talking watch where you have to visit particular points in history in a bid to save the world. Exploring historical, futuristic and post-apocalyptic settings, you’ll take to the stage in 1969 for an epic musical performance, uncover traitors and crack codes during WWII; help inventor Nikola Tesla prepare his machinery, and step onto the moon.
Wanderer is one of the more unique prospects for 2022, a fascinating narrative alongside time-hopping puzzles and some lovely looking locations.
Supported platform(s): PC VR, PlayStation VR
Release date: 27th January 2022
Hitman 3
An exclusive PlayStation VR release – where VR is concerned – in January 2021, IO Interactive’s infamous assassin will eventually make its way to PC VR headsets in the coming 12 months.
Continuing the Hitman storyline, Hitman 3 features five gameplay modes: a full campaign, Elusive Targets, Escalations, Contracts Mode and Sniper Assassin, all of which can be played in VR. It’s been the studio’s most successful Hitman videogame with 50 million players stepping into the shoes of Agent 47.
However, unlike the PlayStation version that’s only compatible with the DualShock controller, and therefore lacks that extra bit of immersive freedom the PC VR edition won’t, and that’s really exciting. IO Interactive has worked on motion controller support, already showcasing Hitman 3 working with Valve Index controllers. This means dual-wielding weapons and other interactions that make VR so immersive will be present in this edition.
Supported platform(s): PC VR
Release date: 2022
Little Cities
And finally a far more casual strategy VR title. Being built by indie team Purple Yonder with publishing support from nDreams (Fracked, Phantom: Covert Ops), Little Cities is a laid back city-building experience for Meta Quest.
You’ll be able to construct complex cities that require residential areas, areas for commerce as well as industrial zones, all carefully balanced to make the populace happy. Specialist buildings such as network phone towers, schools, hospitals, police stations and more all add to the success of your city but they each only cover a certain radius so making sure they’re in an optimal spot is crucial.
Demoing one map from Little Cities, VRFocus found a delightful little city management experience that offered promising gameplay for fans of non-action oriented VR videogames.
We’re looking forward to a ton of new games this year, as newcomers and trusted names in VR development alike are prepping to release bigger and better VR experiences.
Here we look at our most anticipated titles that are scheduled to release in 2022. We’ve ordered games according to their confirmed release dates, then the rash of titles sporting the ever-nebulous ‘coming in 2022’ release window, and then games that we have our eyes on (TBA). We update this article regularly, so make sure to check back for updated info.

Update (April 21st, 2022): We’ve cycled out a number of previously released games, and plugged in a few more promising titles set to come out this year. If you have any suggestions or tips, let us know in the comments below.
What VR game are you looking forward to? Let us know in the comments below!
When it comes to multiplayer virtual reality (VR) gaming Resolution Games is well and truly at the top of the pile with titles like Blaston, Acron: Attack of the Squirrels, and Demeo. Today, the studio shows no signs of veering from that trend announcing futuristic sports experience Ultimechs, coming to VR platforms in 2022.
Combining mechs with what looks like a game of football (soccer), with players competing in an arena setting where they can score goals by punching the ball with rocket-propelled fists. Resolution Games hasn’t revealed much in the way of gameplay details other than what’s shown in the announcement trailer, with the team simple remarking that “speed, precision and rocketry” are required to defeat opponents.
That’s the other big question, how many players will Ultimechs actually support? Blaston was only PvP but it certainly looks like Ultimechs will feature more although Resolution Games hasn’t confirmed numbers. At the moment 2 vs 2 is definitely possible as the studio sent out a teasing tweet earlier in the week showing four players on stage, possibly teamed up in pairs.
The short video highlights a spectator mode to view the match and a loadout area with six potential arenas to choose from. Look a little closer and you’ll see that players don’t have a free run of the environment, instead, they appear to teleport between specific points on the arena floor, indicating an almost table-football structure to the matches. Those additional teleport points could also allow more players to join at the cost of team movement.

“With Ultimechs we have created an entirely new gameplay mechanic that could only exist in the immersive world of VR,” said Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games in a statement. “Sure anyone can kick a ball into a net, but only in the world of Ultimechs can you and your mech punch it in by firing a rocket fist and controlling the trajectory as you follow along its path. And that just scratches the surface of Ultimechs. We’ve really stretched the boundaries of what can be done in VR in this game, and we can’t wait to share more details.”
When more details have been made available, VRFocus will let you know.
Demeo And Cook-Out developer Resolution Games has revealed its next VR title, Ultimechs.
Ultimechs is a competitive multiplayer game due out on “leading VR platforms” in 2022. You can check out a teaser trailer for the game below.
Ultimechs Trailer
Official details are scarce right now, but the trailer reveals players will be controlling mechs in futuristic sports arenas. But, rather than battling it out in combat, it looks like players will be playing a giant game of mech soccer, firing rockets at a ball in the hopes of blasting it into a net.
Rocket League VR, anyone?
“Sure anyone can kick a ball into a net, but only in the world of Ultimechs can you and your mech punch it in by firing a rocket fist and controlling the trajectory as you follow along its path,” Resolution Games CEO Tommy Palm said in a prepared statement. “And that just scratches the surface of Ultimechs.”
And that’s all we really have to go on right now. Resolution Games says more details will be revealed in the coming months, and “major VR platforms” likely includes an Oculus Quest 2 release, though we can’t help but wonder if this might also be Resolution’s first release for the upcoming PS5 VR headset we expect to hear more about soon. As for match sizes and first gameplay details, we’ll have to wait and see. Remarkably, this marks the developer’s ninth VR release, and that’s not including published titles, AR games and expansions on other platforms.
What do you make of Ultimechs? Let us know in the comments below!
Resolution Games, the studio behind Demeo, Blaston, and Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale, announced its next title coming to “major VR platforms” starting next year. Called Ultimechs, the game put you aboard a mech to play some sort of futuristic multiplayer sport.
The studio is staying tight-lipped on exactly what the new sport involves, however they say you’ll need “speed, precision and rocketry […] to defeat your opponents.” More info is said to arrive in the coming months.
In the trailer we can see a mech firing a rocket-fist at a ball, or rather a specific target on the ball that sends it hurtling into a goal area.

There’s actually more to infer here too, thanks to a tweet made by the studio earlier this week. In the short clip below we can see four players donning Quest 2 headsets. A menu screen is briefly seen on stage where there’s an apparent loadout selection and list of available arenas. The four players battle in out and appear to guide the rocket-fists to their targets, possibly in teams of two.

“With Ultimechs we have created an entirely new gameplay mechanic that could only exist in the immersive world of VR,” said Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games.
Resolution Games has developed several ground-up VR titles that are unique to the medium. Following in the footsteps of Blaston, a futuristic 1v1 dueling game that is currently rated at [4.6/5] stars on the Oculus Store, the studio says it hopes Ultimechs will grow its catalog of “distinct, original multiplayer experiences that the company is known for.”
Ultimechs is coming in 2022 to “major VR platforms,” which nowadays typically means Oculus Quest 2, SteamVR and PSVR. Heading into 2022 though, it’s likely we’ll be seeing more platforms arrive such as the long-awaited second-gen PSVR headset for PS5, and whatever Meta is cooking up with its Project Cambria MR headset, something we’re hoping to hear more about during Meta’s VR gaming showcase coming in early 2022.
