Mini-Game Collection Wonderglade Heads to Samsung Gear VR

After mini-game collection Wonderglade proved a success on the Google Daydream platform, developers Resolution Games have turned its attention to the Samsung Gear VR to deliver fast-paced mini-gaming action to that platform as well.

Wonderglade was launched on Google Daydream last year, where it was very successful, consistently maintaining a high star rating from users. The title is a collection of mini-games themed around a carnival. The Samsung Gear VR version will feature Gear VR controller support and all six mini-games and the Wonder Wheel experience.

The available mini-games are as follows:

  • Hamster Hoops: Play some galactically-themed Basketball with ‘space hamsters’.

  • Tip N Tilt Racing: Get the ball to the goal before time runs out by controlling the tilt-board maze.

  • Tiny Tee Golf: A nine-hole mini-golf course

  • Bistro Basher: Smash a fine restaurant to bits

  • Tinder Town: Defend the cardboard town from fires

  • Magic Mayhem: Shoot ice crystals out of the sky with magic

  • Wonder Wheel: Use tickets earned in other games to unlock items

“Mobile VR is a fantastic way to reach new audiences and we’ve been firmly committed to these platforms, making experiences on mobile headsets that everyone can enjoy,” said Tommy Palm, co-founder and CEO of Resolution Games. “Wonderglade has seen an incredibly warm reception by gamers looking for a fun, varied experience in a virtual fantasy theme park. We’re excited to be bringing these experiences to the millions of Gear VR users.”

Wonderglade is now available for free download from the Oculus Store for Samsung Gear VR. The trailer is available to view below.

Facebook Releases First Mini-game for Social VR Platform ‘Spaces’, Paving the Way for More to Come

Facebook Spaces, the company’s social VR platform available on Oculus Rift, has updated to include a new mini-game that aims to pave the way for more yet to come. Called Bait! Arctic Open, the game lets you ice fish while you shoot the breeze with your VR buddies.

Announced during the Oculus Connect developer conference this year alongside the news that Home will soon get a full social overhaul, Facebook has finally released their first game for Spaces, a Rift-native iteration of Resolution Games’ Gear VR title Bait! (2016). Called “an early experiment” by the company, the game may be a simple fishing game, but Facebook considers it a milestone in a much larger effort to not only get more people using the social VR space, but to keep them there.

Facebook Spaces Head of Product Mike Booth says the main reason the company used a game like Bait! was “because it’s a 3-dimensional, real-time simulation that’s social—so it could be used as a prototype to start building our third-party developer tools.” Boot, who’s overseen the project since the beginning says putting the game into Spaces forced them “to do the kinds of things we’ll need to do in a 3D environment for developers, rather than a 2D environment.”

As a game that admitted allows you to be socially active but not take “100% of your mental bandwidth,” as Resolution Games CEO Tommy Palm puts it, it’s an interesting first entry that plays to the strengths of the platform as it is currently. Facebook Spaces still doesn’t feature any sort of artificial locomotion, making an ice fishing game, where you’re necessarily tied to a single location, a natural starting point. Being fairly simple doesn’t hurt either, making it an easy thing to pick up and put down.

Facebook’s social VR team has also been experimenting heavily with traditional table games like cards and dice too, and while those things will likely come at some point in the future, the company seems more focused on building out a ‘target platform’ and creating developer tools so more third-party developers can come in with their own ideas.

“This is only the beginning,” says Booth. “Experiments like this are helping us learn what’s possible to build in Spaces, what works, what doesn’t, and what tools will empower developers to bring great ideas to life. Eventually, we want even more developers to build with us. We’ll share more on our plans next year, so stay tuned!”

Resolution Games Release Social VR Fishing Experience Bait! Arctic Open for Facebook Spaces

During Oculus Connect 4 (OC4) last month, it was announced that Resolution Games was working on a new version of its popular fishing title Bait!, specifically for social platform Facebook Spaces on Oculus Rift. Today, the studio has launched the new entry in the series, titled Bait! Arctic Open.

As a Facebook Spaces exclusive title, Bait! Arctic Open is focused on a virtual multiplayer fishing experience, where friends and family from around the world can now gather around a virtual fishing hole together. This can either be competitive, aiming to catch the biggest fish in the videogame’s tournament mode or for those who’re just hanging out together they can just leisurely cast a line out every so often.

Bait! Arctic Open

“Fishing has always been at its most fun when done with friends, and thanks to Facebook Spaces, we’re able to bring the social side of fishing to a virtual environment,” said Tommy Palm, CEO and co-founder of Resolution Games in a statement. “Facebook Spaces has made incredible leaps when it comes to social engagement feeling genuine within VR. This makes experiences like Bait! that much more amazing to share with friends and family.”

For today’s launch there will be 13 different fish to catch such as the Icy Tuna, Polar Perch, Shivering Shrimp or Penguin Salmon.

While Bait! Arctic Open is playable now, other improvements to Facebook Spaces have been available for a while longer, the main one being QuillustrationsAlso unveiled at OC4, Quillustrations allows users to create not just static 3D art or sculpture, but entire animated stories that can be created and shared in VR.

The fishing title isn’t all that Resolution Games has been working on, announcing in October a swashbuckling pirate adventure for Google Daydream called Narrows. Expected to launch in 2018, Narrows will see players take to the high seas, hunting for treasure and creating their own legendary tales.

Bait! Arctic Open is available now as a free experience in Facebook Spaces. For any further updates from Resolution Games keep reading VRFocus.

Resolution Games Announce VR Pirate Adventure: Narrows

Resolution Games has today revealed the details of the studio’s next virtual reality (VR) project, Narrows, a videogame of swashbuckling pirate adventure. Coming soon on Google Daydream, Narrows will follow the studio’s wildly successful VR fishing title Bait!, the carnival-themed mini-game collection Wonderglade, and the VR interpretation of classic card game Solitaire Jester.

Narrrows logo“We’ve been ecstatic about how our first games have been received, but Narrows will be our biggest game yet,” said Tommy Palm, co-founder and CEO of Resolution Games. “Pirate adventures have long been a part of our culture, from literature classics like Treasure Island to historical villains like Blackbeard and his contemporaries, the golden age of piracy is rife with legend and lore.”

Narrows will offer players a unique view of a pirate’s life, while allowing players to explore numerous voyages on the sea, creating their own mariner myths in the process.

“While the idea of action and adventure may skew to a slightly different audience than our earlier games, we’re confident that the intuitive controls and welcoming design will make Narrows an experience that the whole family can enjoy,” added Palm. “With Bait! and Wonderglade, we managed to create fun and accessible games that appeal to the widest possible audience. In that same vein, Narrows is very much a product of the Resolution Games design philosophy. We’re making VR games for everyone.”

In 2015, Resolution Games announced the raising of $6 million (USD) in order to develop mobile VR videogames and experiences. Investors included Google Ventures, Creandum, Initial Capital, Bonnier Growth Media, and Partech Ventures. At the time, the studio claimed to have seven prototype experiences in the works, a few of which have since been released in the forms of Wonderglade  and Bait!.

Bait! has been Resolution Games’ biggest success story in immersive media to date, having revealed more than two million players had played the videogame. The company recently announced a spin-off from the title, Bait! Arctic Open, is in development for Facebook Spaces, the Oculus Rift social VR application designed to leverage the Facebook community.

While Resolution Games continues to support Bait!, the development of Narrows is expected to be finalised with a planned 2018 launch. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on Narrows and other forthcoming VR titles from Resolution Games.

Bait! Arctic Open Enters Facebook Spaces

The latest Oculus Connect event has generated a lot of news, announcements and excitement. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced the company’s intention to get 1 billion people into virtual reality (VR), so a new emphasis on the social aspects of VR is no surprise. As part of this strategy, a new multiplayer experience will be available to users of Facebook Spaces.

Created by Resolution Games and based on its successful VR fishing title Bait! Facebook Spaces users will be able to try out Bait! Arctic Open, which will allow friends and family to fish together and compete to see who is the best. The title has been designed to integrate smoothly with Facebook Spaces, to et users feel like they are sharing the same room.

“Facebook has created an exceptional, social VR experience with Spaces – working towards overcoming a huge hurdle in VR by making it more interactive. We’re honored to be working with Facebook to explore how to merge gameplay with the Spaces environment,” said Tommy Palm, CEO and co-founder of Resolution Games. “The team has been amazing to work with and Spaces offers the unique social experiences and other mechanics to take engagement in VR to a whole new level.”

Resolution Games’ VR fishing title Bait! has previously been made available as a single player experience on Samsung Gear VR and Google Daydream, proving to be a hit and surpassing 1 million players, placing it in a very select group. Facebook Spaces launched earlier this year as Facebook and Oculus’ answer to the perceived social isolation of VR.

“We’re turning Bait! into much more than a game and making it a social experience where people come together, no matter where they are in the world, around one of the most bonding actions possible – fishing,” added Palm.

VRFocus will bring you further information on Facebook Spaces as it becomes available.

Resolution Games Adds Gear VR Controller Support To Fishing Game

Since Samsung announced the introduction of the Samsung Gear VR controller, a steadily increasing number of titles have been introducing support for the peripheral. Now developer Resolution Games is adding Gear VR controller support to virtual reality (VR) fishing title Bait!

A new update to one of the most popular VR fishing titles, Bait!, will introduce support for Samsung’s recently launched Gear VR controller. Bait! Is a story-driven title where players are put in the role of a trying to catch rare fish for their boss in an attempt to save the aquarium where they both work. The game has five different lakes, each featuring different fish to collect.

“We will always be proud to have been one of the earliest developers on the Gear VR platform,” said Tommy Palm, CEO and co-founder of Resolution Games. “However, those early days had one major limitation: there wasn’t a controller that players could hold and bring into the virtual world. Bait! was designed to excel within these limitations, but as we’re sure our players with Gear VR controllers will agree, fishing feels so much more natural with a rod in your hand.”

Resolution Games have also revealed that Bait! Has been downloaded by over two million players around the world. Bait! Is available for Samsung Gear VR and for Google Daydream for free.

“The 2 million players milestone is an important reminder about the potential of mobile VR,” adds Palm. “Its affordability and convenience has the greatest potential to make virtual reality accessible to the general consumer. And, we’re very excited to see numbers like these so early on in the industry.”

VRFocus will bring you further information on Gear VR controller updates as it becomes available.

Wonderglade Gets French Restaurant-Destroying Game In New Update

Wonderglade Gets French Restaurant-Destroying Game In New Update

Been a while since you’ve visited the colorful world of Resolution Games’ Wonderglade? You might want to take another look today; it’s getting a new update that brings in a rather unusual new mini-game.

That mini-game is Bistro Basher, which sees players visit a French restaurant and then proceed to smash all of the produce brought to their table into pieces using the Daydream controller. The game usually has a carnival theme to its experiences but this one’s a bit more on the side of lunacy.

Wonderglade also adds three new tracks to the Tip N Tilt Racing minigame with this update as well as nine new holes for Tiny Tee Golf. You can pick them up as content packs from inside the game itself either separately for $2.99 or as a bundle for $3.99. Wonderglade itself is free so you can do a bit of try before you buy. You can also now play the game in Korean, Japanese, and Chinese, should you so desire.

The title now has a total of six attractions. Resolution labels it as Daydream’s highest-rated title and, according to the Google Play page, it’s seen between 50,000 – 100,000 downloads thus far.

Resolution Games also recently launched its other mobile VR title, Bait! on Daydream as a premium product.

Google Daydream Title Wonderglade Gets Big Update

Developer Resolution Games has announced that it is bringing a major content update to Google Daydream title Wonderglade.

The update will include a new mini-game called Bistro Basher, which involves visiting an upscale French restaurant and then destroying everything that is brought to the table. This will bring the total of min-games available to six, that all revolve around a carnival theme.

The update also adds content to existing mini-games, such as three new tracks added to Tip and Tilt Racing and nine new holes for Tiny Tee Golf. The new mini-game Hamster Hoops was added in a fairly recent update. In addition, Wonderglade has been localised for Korea, Japan and China.

Wonderglade is available for free download from the Google Play store. The new updates are all available as content packs from within the game either individually for $2.99 (USD) each, or as a bundle for $3.99 (USD).

“Few things in this world are exquisite as fine dining and French cuisine – but we think smashing all of that fancy fare can prove even more exciting than eating it,” said Tommy Palm, CEO and co-founder of Resolution Games. “With Wonderglade’s latest update, you can enjoy a dinnertime tantrum without anyone expecting you to pay the bill afterwards.”

“If there’s one thing our players have been asking for, it’s more content,” added Palm. “With today’s update, we’ve doubled the amount of fun you can have in two of our mini-games, and we’ve created a whole new experience for players with Bistro Basher.”

Bait! Passes A Million Players On Gear, Daydream Version Incoming

Bait! Passes A Million Players On Gear, Daydream Version Incoming

Given the likely low install base of most VR headsets right now, it’s rare to see a game get even close to 1 million players, let alone pass that milestone.

Resolution Games, however, has. Last year this new studio, formed by ex-Candy Crush Saga developer Tommy Palm, put out its second VR game, Bait!, as a free-to-play title for Oculus and Samsung’s Gear VR. Since its launch in March we’ve charted the game’s impressive performance closely: it passed half a million downloads by June and 700,000 downloads by August.

Bait! is a colorful, accessible fishing game, set on a tropical island on which players catch exotic, imaginative aquatic wildlife. It’s not designed to be a simulation like other fishing games but instead be a breezy title that anyone can get into. Clearly, that approach is working for Resolution Games.

The game’s latest figures arrive not too far behind Samsung announcing that there are now five million Gear VR owners in the world, suggesting the title is on at least a fifth of those devices by now. It’s not the only VR game with success to celebrate this week; VR zombie shooter Arizona Sunshine also announced it had amassed $1.4 million in sales.

Now that Bait! has passed the million milestone, Resolution is announcing its release on Google Daydream.

Interestingly, the developer is charging $7.99 for the experience this time around. What’s notable is Resolution’s third game, Wonderglade, hit the platform at launch as another free-to-play title. Palm confirmed to UploadVR that the new version of the game won’t include any in-app purchases.

“Resolution Games absolutely believes in the F2P model,” Palm said. “This was more a decision based on continuing to experiment with different models as we have since we launched our first game. We’ve launched free games, games with IAP and games where you can purchase new content (referring to the lake level in Bait! on Gear VR) and all are doing very well. Bait! Has over a million players and Wonderglade is the highest rated game on Daydream.”

When asked if this move was an indication if Wonderglade might be under performing, Palm replied: “It’s no secret that F2P is best done with a more mature market, but it’s still a valid approach at the moment just like anything else. We still very much believe in F2P and look forward to continuing to experiment with F2P.”

Bait! on Daydream comes with support for the Daydream motion controller, allowing players to cast and reel in fish with a touch more realism than they’d experience with the touchpad on Gear VR. Other than that, we’re expecting this to be a simple port from one ecosystem to the other.

VR Fishing Title Bait! Passes 1 Million Players, Now Available for Daydream

Less than a year ago Resolution Games launched its second virtual reality (VR) title for Samsung Gear VR, a fishing video game called Bait!. The experience proved to be popular on the fledgling VR headset, garnering nearly 150,000 downloads in less than a week the studio announced. Today the developer has revealed Bait!’s achieved another milestone, alongside expanded head-mounted display (HMD) support.

Resolution Games has managed to hit the one million player barrier for Bait!, putting it in a very exclusive group. Otherworld Interactive’s horror title Sisters achieved the one million mark back in May 2016, but that’s classed more as an experience rather than an actual video game like Bait!.

BaitHeader

And that player count looks set to grow even further as Bait! now supports Google Daydream from today. Daydream owners can find the title on Google Play for £6.49 GBP/$7.99 USD.

“We are so excited to see the initial interest in Bait! as it crests 1 million players,” said Tommy Palm, CEO and co-founder of Resolution Games. “And, we now look forward to making the game available for the growing audience on Daydream, while adding the ability to use the motion controller for casting and reeling in fish, which adds a whole new layer to the game’s immersion within VR.”
