Head to Downtown New York in Marvel Powers United VR

Whether you’re looking forward to kicking ass as your favourite superhero next week in Marvel Powers United VR, or getting in the spirit with a bit of cosplay for this weeks San Diego Comic-Con, fans of the upcoming virtual reality (VR) experience will be glad to hear Sanzaru Games has some last minute info to reveal, two more locations to fight in.

Marvel Powers United VR

The studio has already revealed iconic locations like Asgard’s Throne Room, Jotunheim and the Knowhere Market, and now  Attilan and Downtown New York have been added.

Attilan is the ancestral home of the Inhumans, race of genetically altered superhumans which includes characters Black Bolt and Crystal. Created as a refuge from humanity, the city was located in the northern Atlantic Ocean for several thousand years until the advent of modern technology in the 20th Century forced the Inhumans to relocated it in fear of the city being found.

On the other hand Downtown New York needs little introduction as it’s a mainstay of Marvel comic book heroes. The image below does show the area in a partial ruined form, most likely emulating the destruction wrought on the city by the first Avengers film.

Marvel Powers United VR

These location are likely to be the last reveal by Sanzaru Games ahead of Marvel Powers United VR’s launch next week on Thursday 26th July.

If you’ve been keeping up with the latest events then you’ll have seen a myriad of content revealed for the upcoming VR experience, with playable characters including Starlord, Gamora, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, The Hulk, Rocket Racoon, Deadpool, and Thor all making an appearance. While bad guys who’ll take the form of boss encounters include Magneto, Dormammu, Loki, Venom, Ultron, Madame Hydra and Scientist Supreme.

If there are any further updates in the next few days VRFocus will of course let you know.

New York Finally Confirmed For Marvel Powers United VR

New York Finally Confirmed For Marvel Powers United VR

For all of the exotic comic book locations confirmed for Marvel: Powers United VR thus far, the staple of superhero land hasn’t yet been confirmed. That changes today.

Yes, downtown New York City will be available in the game when it launches next week. The war-torn streets will resemble something like the climactic battle of the original Avengers movie, with train cars spilling off of tracks and debris everywhere. Any Marvel fans knows that New York is where most of the heroes like to hang their hat, so it’s great to see it finally confirmed for the game.

Also confirmed today is Attlian, the kingdom of the Inhumans, ruled over by Black Bolt, which has at times hovered over New York itself. Expect an Asgard-like sprawling city to do battle in.

Not long to wait now; Marvel: Powers United VR launches exclusively on the Oculus Rift on July 26th. We’re expecting more announcements for the game at Comic-Con tomorrow.

Watch the Merc with a Mouth Take Down Bad Guys

As we’ve seen over the past couple of weeks, news about upcoming Oculus Rift exclusive Marvel Powers United VR is coming in thick and fast now as Marvel, Oculus and developers Sanzaru Games whip up hype in advance of the release. Just to get you even more excited, VRFocus presents some gameplay footage of that fourth-wall breaking murderous goofball, Deadpool.

Deadpool is one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Comics universe, and his star is now higher than ever thanks to two movies under his belt, starring Ryan Reynolds.

Deadpool Marvel Powers United VR

Nina Salomons of VRFocus got a chance to play Marvel Powers United VR using Deadpool, and show off his moves, where he uses his iconic twin katanas, along with pistols and shurikens for long-range attacks. Of course, what would the Merc with the Mouth be without a constant stream of quips and remarks, which are fully in evidence here.

The action for this gameplay footage takes place in a sandy-floored arena-like structure where villainous brutes charge forward to attack you, backed up by flying drone that hover around pelting you with tracer fire. As a result, players need to strike a balance between avoiding incoming fire, taking out the drones with ranged attacks, then switching to melee to disable the well-armoured brutes.

Other recent announcements include the addition of Madame Hydra and AIM’s Scientist Supreme to the villain side, along with two other Guardians of the Galaxy to join the hero team, with Star Lord and Gamora added to the roster. Prior to that, some playable locations were announced which featured iconic Marvel universe locations, such as the throne room of Asgard, the frost giants home of Jotunheim and the mysterious Knowhere Market.

The gameplay footage is available to view below. For further news on Marvel Powers United VR and other upcoming VR projects, keep checking back with VRFocus.

Villains Madama Hydra and Scientist Supreme Join Marvel Powers United VR

There’s just over a week to go until Sanzaru Games launch the eagerly awaited Marvel Powers United VR exclusively for Oculus Rift. The studio has been upping the anticipation by drip feeding information about which characters will be playable and those who’ll play the bosses players will need to defeat. As the last couple of Tuesdays has seen a couple of villains being revealed today is no different, with Madama Hydra and Scientist Supreme both making and appearance.

The two new villains to Marvel Powers United VR’s boss roster help to up the evil female element for the title, with Madame Hydra being a master assassin while the Scientist Supreme has genius level intellect and plenty of gadgets to help protect themselves.

As with most Marvel characters and the universe they come from, will sometimes alter their abilities and personality traits. So for this Madame Hydra the synopsis explains: “From the shadows she rose, a sleeper agent to assassin to command of Hydra forces. A master at espionage and excellent strategist, Madame Hydra has eliminated all her adversaries with a skilled hand. Now she has her sights set on the domination of Earth, believing that Hydra and The Masters of Evil will bring true order to the universe.”

While the Scientist Supreme has been both male and female, for the videogame its the latter: “The genius leader of A.I.M., the Scientist Supreme leads attacks on planets for the Masters of Evil. Utilizing A.I.M. technology with the support of ground forces from Hydra, the Kree, and Ultron for the mighty Thanos, she is determined to decimate anyone who stands in their path.”

As VRFocus has extensively covered over the last few weeks, other villains confirmed include Magneto, Dormammu, Loki, Venom and Ultron. While on the playable character side there will be 18 in total, with 12 heroes already named: Starlord, Gamora, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, The Hulk, Rocket Racoon, Deadpool, Black Bolt, Crystal and Thor.

It Looks Like Thanos Is In Oculus Rift Exclusive Marvel: Powers United VR

It Looks Like Thanos Is In Oculus Rift Exclusive Marvel: Powers United VR

Two lesser-known villains (and one big baddie) are joining the cast of Marvel: Powers United VR today.

Publisher Oculus has announced that Madame Hydra and Scientist Supreme will both appear as bosses in the VR action game. You won’t get to play as them, but you will be able to face off with them in the middle of levels.

Though you might not have heard of the characters, you’ll probably recognize the groups they represent. Madame Hydra is, obviously, one of the heads of Hydra, an evil organization bent on world domination that Captain America often finds himself butting heads with. Scientist Supreme, meanwhile, has had many incarnations but operates under the banner of A.I.M., another group of baddies that uses technological smarts to overcome their foes.

But the description Oculus provided for the two characters also seems to confirm another big Marvel baddie that you may just have heard of is in the game. Scientist Supreme’s bio — also available on the official website — reads: “Utilizing A.I.M. technology with the support of ground forces from Hydra, the Kree, and Ultron for the mighty Thanos, she is determined to decimate anyone who stands in their path.”

Yup, that Thanos. The one that does the thing in a certain blockbuster Avengers movie. We’d long suspected he would be in the game given his newfound status as the big bad of the entire Marvel universe, but now it seems confirmed we’ll get to square off with him in VR. From the looks of it, he’ll be behind the game’s larger story; we wonder if he’ll be wielding a certain gauntlet?

This announcement also seems to confirm that we’ll also be squaring off with the larger Hydra and Ultron factions in the game. So far we’ve only seen our heroes go up against armies of Kree warriors, so it will definitely be nice to get some variety amongst the cannon fodder.

Marvel: Powers United VR is releasing on July 26th exclusively on the Oculus Rift. We’ll hear more about the game at a comic-con panel this week.

First revealed at Disney D23 fan expo last summer, Marvel Powers United VR is an upcoming co-op VR game created by Marvel Games, Sanzaru Games, and Oculus Studios. Playable heroes thus far revealed in the 18-character lineup include: Star-lord, Gamorra, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, The Hulk, Rocket Raccoon, Deadpool, Black Bolt, Crystal, and Thor.

Here’s a quick bio for both Madame Hydra and Scientist Supreme:

Madame Hydra: From the shadows she rose, a sleeper agent to assassin to command of Hydra forces. A master at espionage and excellent strategist, Madame Hydra has eliminated all her adversaries with a skilled hand. Now she has her sights set on the domination of Earth, believing that Hydra and The Masters of Evil will bring true order to the universe.

Scientist Supreme: The genius leader of A.I.M., the Scientist Supreme leads attacks on planets for the Masters of Evil. Utilizing A.I.M. technology with the support of ground forces from Hydra, the Kree, and Ultron for the mighty Thanos, she is determined to decimate anyone who stands in their path.

Marvel VR: Every Hero, Villain And Location Explained

Marvel VR: Every Hero, Villain And Location Explained

Ever wanted to be a superhero? Better yet, how about a Marvel superhero? With Marvel Powers United VR you can do just that. This promising new VR game lets you step into the shoes of your favorite comic book characters and team up with friends to save the world over and over again.

What is it?

Marvel Powers United VR is essentially a co-op brawler. You team up with up to four friends, each of whom chooses from a number of different heroes, and then take on individual missions that are around 10 – 20 minutes long. You’ll be tasked with objectives like defending certain objects and must then hold off scores of enemies, including occasional boss characters based on comic book villains.

The game is played from a first-person perspective, and each hero has their own unique abilities to play with. Thor can throw his mystical hammer, Mjolnir, for example, while Hulk’s super strength allows him to easily bat away enemies.

Heroes

A total of 12 playable heroes have been confirmed for the game so far:

Black Panther – As king of Wakanda, Black Panther a.k.a. T’Challa utilizes superhuman strength gained from the mystical heart-shaped herb, paired with a suit made out of an unbreakable metal named vibranium, to slash away at his foes.

Rocket Raccoon – Born from sadistic experiments, Rocket may be a little on the short side but he more than makes up for it with the size of his guns. A favorite among the Guardians of the Galaxy, he’ll make short work of those in his way.

Deadpool – Best known as the Merc with the Mouth, Wade Wilson is a hired gun that doesn’t know when to keep his trap shut. Mixing attacks up between guns and his trademark katanas makes him no joke on the battlefield, though.

Captain Marvel – Arguably one of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel universe, Carol Danvers can take to the skies and emit deadly energy beams that will cut through the competition.

The Hulk – This is one time that you’ll definitely like him when he’s angry. When Bruce Banner loses control, The Incredible Hulk steps out of the shadows, bringing his unparralled strength with him. That’s bad news for the bad guys.

Crystal – A member of a race of superpowered beings known as The Inhumans, Crystal has one of the most unique powersets in the game. Utilizing her mastery of fire and water, she has great defensive capabilities to aid objectives.

Black Bolt – The leader of the Inhumans and king the Attilan, Black Bolt is cursed with a voice so powerful it can topple buildings. He’s usually confined to silence, but out on the battlefield he’s able to let loose.

Thor – God of Thunder, Son of Odin and… strongest Avenger? Thor wields his mighty hammer, Mjolnir, to smash through foes with little effort. As if hitting things with a hammer weren’t enough, he can also summon lightning to aid his cause. Handy!

Hawkeye – Perfectly suited for VR, Hawkeye brings his trademark bow and arrow into combat with a variety of arrowheads serving different purposes. You’ll still need a steady aim to get the most out of this character, though.

Black Widow – Master assassin and elite fighter, Natasha Romanov has more than enough tricks up her sleeve to get the job done. Switching up fighting styles with her usual weapons will be enough to take down any enemy.

Star-Lord – Peter Quill, leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, bring his high-tech kit onto the battlefield to get the job done. With dual-wielding blasters, a jet pack and the ability to think fast, he more than makes up for his lack of true powers.

Gamora – Daughter of Thanos and the deadliest woman in the galaxy. Gamora tears the enemy to shreds with his razor-sharp sword. We don’t yet know if we’ll be facing down her Dad, but if so we’ll need her for sure.

Captain America – Steve Rogers was transformed into Captain America when he was selected for a super soldier serum that transformed his initially week body into peak condition. Wielding his iconic shield, he was born to be a leader of any squad.

Dr. Strange – Stephen Strange had his hands ruined in an accident, dooming his medical career. He instead devoted himself to the mystic arts, which you can use to conjure a wide range of spells on your enemies.

Wolverine – A man that needs no introduction, Wolverine is arguably the most iconic X-Man out there, sporting three metal claws on each hand that dice through enemies with ease. It’s almost like the game were made for him.

Storm – Another X-Man with an incredible ability set, Storm possesses mastery over the weather, summoning chilling lighting bolts at a moment’s notice. We’ll be eager to see her teamed up with Thor.

Iceman – Bobby Drake has the ability to create ice out of thin air, giving him amazing defensive and offensive capabilities. You can make ice sliders to glide around levels, making him a great choice for heroes on the move.

Spider-Man – Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider, giving him amazing abilities such as super strength and the power to stick to walls. He now fights crime as Spider-Man, an acrobatic superhero with amazing web-based moves.

Villains

Our heroes aren’t just fending off cannon-fodder; some of the biggest baddies in all of Marveldom are ready to take you down.

Ronan the Accuser – A walking tank of a Kree soldier with a giant hammer that we wouldn’t want to get in the way of.

Loki – Thor’s brother, the God of Mischief, appears on the battlefield with an array of tricks to trip you up.

Venom – Bonding with a symbiote once worn by Spider-Man, Eddie Brock becomes Venom, a bigger, meaner version of the wall-crawler.

Ultron – An AI construct created by Hank Pym (the original Ant-Man), Ultron is bent on saving humanity by eliminating it. He’s complicated like that.

Magneto – Arch-nemesis of the X-Men and Master of Magnetism, Magneto is one of the most powerful enemies you’ll face in the game.

Dormammu – The ruler of the Dark Dimension that often finds himself face-to-face with Dr. Strange, Dormammu is an unpredictable foe.

Madame Hydra – One of the most powerful heads of Hydra, she commands an overwhelming number of forces that will try to stop you in your tracks.

Scientist Supreme – With huge technological resources on-hand, Scitent Supreme powers the weapons that enemies will wield in the game.

Thanos – The big bad of the Marvel universe, on the hunt for the precious Infinity Stones. Thanos wield amazing strenght that makes him unmatched in combat.

Locations

Marvel Powers United VR’s levels offer a grand tour of the Marvel universe, taking you to locations both weird and wonderful.

Wakanda – A technological marvel hidden within Africa, Wakanda is the home of the Black Panther.

Asgard – Thor’s homeworld houses a race of gods and a city unlike anything you’ve seen before.

Knowhere – A mined-out head of an ancient celestial now floating in space, this is why the Guardians of the Galaxy put their feet up.

Sakaar – A distance alien planet that Bruce Banner was once exiled to, proving your strength is the only way to make it on Sakaar.

Jotunheim – Home to the deadly Frost Giants, if you don’t have a reason to be in Jotunheim you shouldn’t stay there.

Release Date, Price and Platform

Marvel Powers United VR is releasing exclusively on the Oculus Rift on July 26th for $39.99/£29.99 and you can pre-order here. Since the game is published under the Oculus Studios banner there’s very little chance it will ever show up on non-Oculus platforms like the HTC Vive.

Marvel Powers United Welcomes Gamora and Star Lord to the Roster

As the release date for Oculus Rift exclusive Marvel Powers United VR draws ever closer, the team at Sanzaru Games are determined to get the hype up to feverish levels with a veritable torrent of new announcements concerning the title. Now another two heroes have been added in, giving players more options to choose from.

Today’s reveal lets two more of the Guardians of the Galaxy join in the action, with Star Lord and Gamora joining the team.

Star Lord is also known as Peter Quill, a galactic adventurer who was snatched from his home on Earth at a young age to be raised amongst the piratical Ravagers. Armed with his high-tech elemental blaster and a mix tap of classic music from the 70s and early 80s, Star Lord acts as the leader of his rag tag team.

Gamora is the (reluctantly) adopted daughter of the mad titan Thanos. Her brutal upbringing taught her how to be one of the most dangerous warriors in the galaxy, but she grew tired and disgusted by the cruelty she was forced to inflict on others and broke away from Thanos to put her skills to use alongside the other Guardians of the Galaxy. Wielding her deadly blade known as Godslayer or firing away with a blaster, she is a dangerous opponent.

Other recent announcements have covered new villains, which revealed that players would get to battle against Magento and Dormammu, and also some new locations, like Asgard’s majestic throne room, the cold reaches of Jotunheim and the Knowhere Market.

Prior to that Hawkeye and Black Widow joined in on the heroes side, and Wakanda made an appearance as a playable location.

Marvel Powers United VR is due to be released on 26th July, 2018, priced at $39.99 (USD)/ £29.99 (GBP). The title is already available for pre-order via the Oculus Store. For further news on Marvel Powers United VR and other upcoming VR projects, keep checking back with VRFocus.
