Getty Images Announces New Partnership To Provide VR Content

More virtual reality (VR) content is being made every day – 360 videos, 3D videos and more is constantly being made an uploaded for consumers to enjoy – but making that content isn’t easy. Outside of the expensive equipment you’ll need to purchase or rent, there’s also the case of stock footage, and its availability in full 360 degrees. Well, Getty are now stepping up to the plate, cemented a new partnership that should ensure content creators will have all the stock footage necessary for their VR creations.

Getty Images is partnering with Jaunt, a publisher of cinematic VR content, to help bring their VR stock content ambitions to life. Jaunt’s producers have been capturing footage from around the world since 2013, documenting their travels and experiences, and now that footage will be available to the community through Getty.

“We are thrilled to be working with Getty Images to bring our high quality 360 and cinematic VR footage to the wider creative community,” said Mitzi Reaugh, Global Head of Strategy & Content Licensing at Jaunt. “Just as meaningful as producing premium VR experiences is to Jaunt, it’s equally important to help facilitate others to create quality 360 and VR content.  We aim to do all we can for the growth of this powerful emerging medium, and this is but another step in that direction.”

Anthony Holland Parkin, Getty Images’ head of VR, believes that this’ll help take VR content into the mainstream; “In 2017 skepticism around VR has finally taken a backseat. What has become clear to brands and the public alike, is that VR is here to stay. Undoubtedly, it has the potential to transform the way the public consumes and engages with brands. At Getty Images we are embedding VR content technologies into the core of our business and ensuring that, as use of VR continues to grow, its users are further enhancing their experience with access to the world’s best content.”

With Getty Images making move to ensure 360 video content is available to a wider audience, the amount of content VR producers can make – and users can enjoy – will only grow.

Disney Backed Jaunt And OmniVirt Are Partnering To Put More Ads Into VR

Disney Backed Jaunt And OminVirt Are Partnering To Put More Ads Into VR

Virtual reality is here to stay but, at this point, it’s still trying to figure out exactly how to generate revenue. One tried and true method in Silicon Valley for turning an idea into cash is to start tying advertisements to it. Now, a partnership between the Disney-backed Jaunt and 360 advertising startup OmniVirt is going to see if the advertising model works in VR.

Jaunt has raised slightly over $100 million from notable partners such as Disney, Paul McCartney (yes, that Paul McCartney) and China Media Capital. The company was able to raise these funds by arriving early and impressing with proprietary technology for the creation of immersive video.

Jaunt has continued to develop new hardware for VR video, but now it seems ready to diversity its revenue potential through a new advertising strategy formed in conjunction with its partner, OmniVirt.

Founded by former Google employees, OmniVirt is a 360 advertisement platform. OmniVirt’s bread and butter is an immersive ad distribution platform and analytics system. The team has already built VR campaigns for companies such as Toyota, Samsung, and Universal Pictures.

According to a joint release from the two companies, Jaunt and OmniVirt will now begin to “extend the reach of campaigns that Jaunt has been providing to its brand clients by ensuring increased distribution and viewership across OmniVirt’s premium publisher network.”

The release continues, “Under this partnership, Jaunt will be able to extend the reach of its client’s campaigns seamlessly into OmniVirt’s premium inventory, enabling brands to promote and drive viewership to their VR experiences.”

According to Jean-Paul Colaco, Chief Revenue Officer at Jaunt:

“We know that marketers and their agency partners are looking for premium inventory and scaled distribution when it comes to the world of 360° virtual reality advertising. We have been very impressed with OmniVirt’s technology and reach. The Jaunt Studio and app combined with OmniVirt’s distribution network will provide our clients with a holistic solution for their 360° virtual reality brand advertising campaigns.”

Advertising in VR is still experimental and deals like this one indicate that we may be seeing a good deal more experiments very soon.

The device features a 24-camera array with synchronized global shutter sensors, enabling it to provide full 360-degree stereoscopic coverage at up to 8K output resolution. “Demand for the Jaunt ONE has been unwavering since we introduced it to rental houses last summer, ” said Koji Gardiner, VP of Hardware Engineering at Jaunt. “The natural next step was to provide filmmakers the ability to own the camera. These filmmakers are pushing the creative boundaries as they eagerly explore the medium and we could not be more proud to provide them with the only professional-grade VR camera designed specifically for their craft.”
