F1 Racing Comes To PSVR’s Gran Turismo Sport In New Update

F1 Racing Comes To PSVR’s Gran Turismo Sport In New Update

Somehow, Sony’s PlayStation VR (PSVR) still doesn’t have an authentic F1 racing game to call its own. But, thanks to Gran Turismo Sport, players can at least get a taste of those high-speed thrills.

Another free update hit Polyphony Digital’s PS4 racing simulation this week. Patch 1.13 adds 12news cars, two track configurations and three GT League events. Among others, the cars include the 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1, 1972 Alpine A110 1600S and the 1971 De Tomaso Pantera. The most exciting inclusion, though, is the Gran Turismo F1500T-A, the first F1 car to be added to the game.

Check out the new content in the trailer below.

As with the latest update, all of these new cars can be driven inside PSVR in the game’s VR Tour mode. This simply allows you to take on an AI opponent across any track in the game, but it does at least let you feel the amazing immersion of sitting in the drivers’ seat of any of these cars. Still no word on any possible expanded VR support yet but we’ll keep you up to date.

Gran Turismo Sports’ New Cars And Tracks Work With PSVR

Gran Turismo Sports’ New Cars And Tracks Work With PSVR

Gran Turismo Sport is getting a big update today, and you’ll be pleased to know that its new content works in VR.

A post on the PlayStation Blog yesterday confirmed that Polyphony Digital’s popular racing sim would launch its 1.11 update today. The post didn’t mention if the new cars and tracks added in this update would be available in the game’s VR Tour mode for PlayStation VR (PSVR), but Sony just confirmed to UploadVR that it will.

Included in the update is GT Sport’s first brand new track, the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Italy. The circuit comes with eight different layouts to race across and offers some stunning sights, as you can see in the trailer above.

More importantly, though, are the 10 new cars arriving in this months’ update, each of which you’ll get to jump into the drivers’ seat within PSVR. The cars include:

Dodge Viper GTS
Ferrari 512 BB
Ferrari 330 P4
Ford GT
Jaguar XJ13
Lamborghini Diablo GT
McLaren F1
Toyota 2000GT
Toyota FT-1
Toyota Supra RZ

Best of all? This is all free; simply boot up your PS4 once the update is live.

While it’s great to see new content added to the game’s PSVR mode, sadly there’s no news in the way of new features for the PSVR support; you can still only race these cars in 1 vs 1 offline play against AI.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR is now £39.99, down from £49.99.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Farpoint

Farpoint is the impressive alien shooting romp through space that’ll make you feel like a futuristic space marine, especially if you use the PlayStation VR Aim controller.

Farpoint is now only £15.99, down from £24.99.

Tekken 7

Well, Tekken 7 certainly isn’t much of a VR experience, as you only really get to view a few battles in VR, and can’t expect that to entertain for long – but it’s a great fighting experience, and one well worth the money at this price point.

Tekken 7 is now only £29.99, down from £49.99.

Guild of Music Supervisors Nominate GT Sport for Award

The Guild of Music Supervisors have announced their list of nominees for their eighth annual GMS awards. The awards show will present 14 awards to nominees from the motion picture, television, trailers, promos, advertising and videogame industries; and Gran Turismo Sport, the PlayStation VR favourite, is up for an award of its own.

GT Sport screenshot

There’s a bunch of videogames nominated at the Guild of Music Supervisors Awards this year, which takes place at The Theatre, Ace Hotel, Los Angeles on February 8th. Other videogames nominated include Call of Duty: WWII, Life is Strange: Before The Storm, Madden NFL 18, and FIFA 18.

GT Sport now often gets bundles with PlayStation VR head-mounted displays (HMDs) since the title makes such great use of virtual reality (VR). Following a price drop on the PlayStation VR HMDs, the game and the HMD units sold quite well near the end of last year.

“From music-intensive tent-pole sequels like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ and ‘Pitch Perfect 3,’ to technically complicated musicals and animated films like ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ ‘The Greatest Showman’ and ‘Coco,’ to elegantly-navigated character dramas like ‘Ladybird,’ ‘The Florida Project’ and ‘Call Me By Your Name,’ the film committee has highlighted the best music supervision in film this past year,” said Thomas Golubić, President of the Guild of Music Supervisors. “We are incredibly proud of the stellar work of our fellow music supervisors in this extraordinarily rich year in music in media. Our February 8th awards will be a festive celebration of their laudable work.”

This is the third year in a row that the Guild of Music Supervisors Awards have been held at The Theatre, Los Angeles. Anyone attending the awards will be treated to more than just the show, as there will also be live music performed by GMS Spotlight Artist Yungblud, a recording artist from North England.

The Guild of Music Supervisors also look at music in emerging media, so we can only hope that VR content will be considered more often in the future as it becomes a bigger media force.

We’ll let you know if Gran Turismo Spot win an award at the GMS Awards this year, so for all of the latest information, make sure to keep your eyes on VRFocus.

UK PlayStation VR Sales Do Well Over Black Friday

Black Friday is a period that publishers, developers and hardware manufacturers pay very close attention to. The week-long period around Black Friday has been a positive one for the PlayStation VR this year.

Though Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has been cagey about its official sales figures for the PlayStation VR, but many outlets and retailers have been reporting that, overall, PlayStation VR has been doing very well in terms of sales, even beating out the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift and hitting the top spot on Amazon’s Black Friday Top Seller lists.

PlayStation VR GT Sport Bundle

SIE decided to capitalise on this success for the Black Friday period by offering a number of Black Friday bundles, dropping the price to £249.99 (GBP). There are three bundle variants, all of which contain the headset and PlayStation Camera, along with either a digital code for PlayStation VR Worlds, or The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, or Gran Turismo Sport. These bundle offers offered a tempting prospect for those shopping for Christmas presents.

Many retailers, including Smyths Toy Store, sold out of the Black Friday deals, leaving customers searching for retailers who still had the bundles in stock. The inclusion of PlayStation VR Worlds in one of the bundles meant that that title’s position in the UK Gaming Charts took a huge nine-place jump up to No 11 in the charts.

GFK Chart-Track also confirms that sales of the PlayStation VR overall were impressive, almost matching the figures achieved during the PlayStation VR launch week in 2016. With a number of hotly anticipated PlayStation VR titles still awaiting release in 2018, such as Golem and Xing: The Land Beyond, with others expected to be announced at the upcoming PlayStation Experience event, leading many experts and analysts to forecast that the PlayStation VR sales success will continue into next year, at least.

VRFocus will bring you further news on the PlayStation VR as it becomes available.

Something for the Weekend: A Veritable VR Pick ‘n’ Mix

Usually on Something for the Weekend, VRFocus tends to pick a selection of discounts from a single store, alternating between them on a weekly basis where possible. As you should be very well aware of by now, this week is somewhat different due to the massive amount of deals on offer thanks to Black Friday. Originally confined to one day, Black Friday has expanded to include the entirety of this weekend and most of the week before it. And VRFocus has covered many, many, many offers relating to VR, so for today decided to do a roundup of the best videogames currently on sale.

Sony Slashes UK PlayStation VR Price for Black Friday

If you’ve been paying attention to VRFocus recently you’ll know that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has been heavily promoting its PlayStation VR headset in the run up to Black Friday with plenty of deals including an The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR bundleDoom VFR bundle and a Gran Turismo Sport bundle. Unfortunately all those deals apart from the latter are for North American customers. So what about the UK? Well you’ll be please to know SIE has veiled two new limited time deals for UK consumers.

The two bundles on offer are as follows. First – and probably the most coveted – is the The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR deal which includes the videogame, PlayStation VR, PlayStation Camera, a downloadable copy of PlayStation VR Worlds and the demo disc with eight titles, all for £249.99 GBP. While the second offer is exactly the same just with Gran Turismo Sport – which is £100 off its previous bundle price.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR screenshot

That’s all really good, making them two of the best deals UK consumers have seen for PlayStation VR. They’re still not as generous as the US deals however, there’s no PlayStation Move controllers included – a must for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR – plus the demo disc listed on the page seems to be the old one with eight videogames.

The site lists: RIGS Mechanized Combat League, PlayStation VR Worlds, Tumble VR, DRIVECLUB VR, Battlezone, EVE: Valkyrie, Headmaster and Wayward Sky, all of which were available a year ago – RIGS until recently was free on PlayStation Plus. The US bundles feature the new demo disc which now includes: Moss, Dino Frontier, Fantastic Contraption, Job Simulator, Raw Data, Rez Infinite, Starblood Arena, Star Child, Thumper, Tiny Trax and more. Don’t worry too much about that though, the new disc can be downloaded through the EU PlayStation Store.

If you want to make use of the new deals you’ve got between 17th November at 00:01 GMT until 27th November at 23:59.

Don’t forget to read VRFocus’ 5 star review of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, which said: “No matter how many times you’ve experienced Skyrim, you’ve never felt it like this.”
