Fantasy Dungeon Crawler Demeo Opens Its Doors in May

Demeo

Table-top gaming in virtual reality (VR) works exceedingly well – just look at Catan VRand soon Resolution Games’ Demeo will be added to that list. Today, the studio has announced that Demeo will see a multiplatform launch next month.

Demeo

Revealed for the first time back in December 2020, Demeo allows up to four players to engage in a dungeon quest, each taking their turn to explore the dangerous hallways and rooms then working together to defeat any foes they encounter. Players can assume one of four roles, an eagle-eyed hunter, a mystical sorcerer, a deadly assassin or a protective guardian each bringing their own unique skillset to the team. The end goal is to set the Mad Elven King free.

“We knew that RPG fans were going to love Demeo, but we had no idea just how excited they would be until we released its gameplay reveal trailer last month,” said Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games in a statement. “It has been so fun hearing from players all over the world about how excited they are to get their hands on the game and experience their beloved tabletop game nights again with their friends after a long year apart. Demeo is going to be unlike anything available in VR today, and we can’t wait for players to take on the dungeons of Demeo on May 6.”

To emulate that table-top gameplay experience players will have to role roll a die so they can move and plan their group strategy. Hidden in the dungeon are treasure chests which contain special ability cards to augment actions. These can heal players, freeze enemies or launch fireballs at opponents.

Demeo

To ensure as many players as possible can access this co-op focused experience Resolution Games is not only making Demeo cross-platform between Oculus Quest and PC VR headsets but also non-VR players. This will be a first for the studio with the PC version arriving later this year.

Demeo will arrive for Oculus Quest and Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index and Windows Mixed Reality on 6th May 2021, retailing for $29.99 USD on their respective stores. This will be Resolution Games’ first VR title of the year having released Blaston, Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale, Glimt: The Vanishing at the Grand Starlight Hotel and Wonderglade in 2020. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Demeo, reporting back with further updates.

Tabletop VR RPG Demeo Hits Quest, PC VR In May

Resolution Games’ tabletop VR role-playing game, Demeo, is coming to headsets in the very near future.

The game hits Oculus Quest and PC VR headsets on May 6th for $29.99. A Coming Soon listing on the Oculus Store just went live, too. A non-VR version with cross-play is still planned, but it’s now arriving later on in the year.

Demeo is inspired by classic tabletop RPGs, emulating the real-life experience inside VR. Players meet up online and then work together to tackle dungeons in turn-based battles. You’ll roll the dice to determine attack powers, use cards to activate special bonuses and pick up figures to move them across the board. This being VR, you can scale the size of the table to your liking, hover over the top of it, and appear alongside your friends as customized avatars.

We wrote about the first gameplay for the experience back in March, which you can see below. It looks promising, though we’ll need to get to grips with the game’s mechanics to see if it can really stand toe-to-toe with its inspirations.

Demeo will, somewhat remarkably, be Resolution Games’ ninth self-published, standalone VR release (not even counting AR games and additions to existing services like Facebook Spaces), and its sixth on Quest. The studio is also moving into publishing VR titles from other developers – next week it will release an Oculus Quest version of co-op platformer, Carly and the Reaperman. Demeo will be the first project in the studio’s history to include support for flat screen play, though.

Resolution Games Debuts First Look At Demeo Gameplay In New Trailer

Resolution Games debuted a first look at gameplay from its upcoming tabletop dungeon crawler Demeo, which is coming soon to Quest, PC VR, and non-VR PC with cross-platform play.

With Demeo, Resolution is bringing tabletop RPG gameplay into VR by creating a virtual environment where up to four players can meet and play through a dungeon-crawling tabletop campaign that is stunningly laid out in front of them. It’s like sitting around a table for a traditional game night with friends, except the game in question uses its own virtual, dynamic, and interactive environment that sits on the table in front of you.

It’s hard to accurately describe, so you’re best off just watching the gameplay trailer embedded above to get a good understanding of how it works. There’s some fantastic footage of the virtual game table and the stunning fantasy characters, which you’ll be able to manipulate and interact with.

“Are you sitting around a table playing a board game with friends in your parents’ basement? Yes. Are you a hero exploring levels of a dungeon and facing hordes of monsters and traps with your fellowship of warriors? Also yes,” said Resolution Games CEO Tommy Palm in a prepared statement. “It’s this combined experience that’s so reminiscent of traditional tabletop gaming with friends that makes Demeo such an engaging experience.”

Demeo is set to release on the Oculus Store for both Quest and Rift, as well as Steam for PC VR headsets and traditional PC play. The game is Resolution’s first to support both flatscreen and VR platforms, with cross-platform play allowing for PC players to take part in the action alongside those playing in VR.

First Gameplay Trailer Released for Dungeon Crawler Demeo

Demeo

After its initial tease in December, Resolution Games is back with more details about its upcoming, turn-based dungeon crawler Demeo. These include actual gameplay from this tabletop experience as well as confirmation it’ll support standard PC gaming.

Demeo screenshot2

As expected Demeo is very much like classic Dungeons & Dragons where a team of players enter a grim, medieval dungeon and fight their way through hordes of adversaries. Supporting up to four people in multiplayer co-op, the video showcases a game being played in a basement with the players looking down on the action.

Able to select from a band of heroes (Guardian, Sorcerer, Assassin and Hunter) each with their own particular attributes to aid the journey, players take it in turns to roll the die and plan their moves. They’ll also have special ability cards gathered from treasure chests to combine with regular attacks to make them more potent.

“It’s so easy to get lost in the different environments of the game,” explained Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games in a statement. “Are you sitting around a table playing a board game with friends in your parents’ basement? Yes. Are you a hero exploring levels of a dungeon and facing hordes of monsters and traps with your fellowship of warriors? Also yes. It’s this combined experience that’s so reminiscent of traditional tabletop gaming with friends that makes Demeo such an engaging experience.”

Demeo screenshot1

“Our goal in creating Demeo was to design a shared gaming adventure for friends to become completely immersed in fantasy worlds, where they can step out of their everyday experiences and find a chance to escape the outside world together,” added Palm. “It’s very much like an old school game night with friends, but now with a bit of previously impossible wish fulfillment: your thought of ‘man, I wish I could be in this game’ has actually come true, and it’s more incredible than you ever imagined.”

Demeo is expected to launch later this year for Oculus Quest and Rift, and via Steam for Valve Index and HTC Vive. To ensure maximum support for as many players as possible a non-VR version for PC will also be released, for cross-platform gameplay, a first for Resolution Games. Check out the trailer below and for further details on Demeo, keep reading VRFocus.

Cross-platform Dungeon Crawler ‘Demeo’ Coming to Quest & PC VR in May

Resolution Games announced that its upcoming tabletop-style dungeon crawler, Demeo, is officially coming to Oculus Quest and PC VR headsets on May 6th.

Update (April 6th, 2021): Resolution Games announced that on May 6th, 2021 Demeo is headed to Quest and Rift via the Oculus Store, and SteamVR-compatible headsets via Steam. The game will be priced at $30.

The cross-platform game will also launch on traditional PC gaming platforms as a non-VR title that’s playable with other PC and VR gamers. The studio says more info on that will come at a later date.

Original Article (March 3rd, 2021): The studio says the multiplayer co-op game pits up to four players against the archetypal Dungeons & Dragons-style beasts and goblins, replete with multi-sized die to combine attacks with special ability cards gathered from treasure chests throughout the various levels. Players can take on one of four classes: Guardian, Sorcerer, Assassin and Hunter.

The video shows off an interesting mix of first and third-person tabletop action. We’re eager to see just how mechanics are divided between the two realms. Whatever the case, it seems Resolution Games is grasping the zeitgeist by its FFP2 mask by offering socially-distant tabletop fans a VR-native take on the genre.

“It’s so easy to get lost in the different environments of the game,” said Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games.

Demeo is slated to release sometime this year on Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift, and on SteamVR headsets. Notably, Demeo also set to be accessible by traditional monitors via Steam, which will allow cross-platform play between PC and VR headsets. You can wishlist Demeo on Steam here.

Cook-Out developer Resolution Games joins us for the second day of UploadVR’s Winter Wrap-Up!

The Stockholm-based studio is today sharing updates on two of its titles as you can see in the video below. In Blaston, two players go head-to-head in intense shootouts, firing slow-moving bullets at each other. The other player can return fire and also try to dodge those attacks. Included in today’s update, Resolution will be adding a new lobby area for players to meet and start matches, and you’ll even be able to jump into matches as a spectator, too.

Resolution Games Reveals ‘Demeo’, a Turn-based RPG Dungeon Crawler for VR

Resolution Games, the studio behind VR titles Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale (2020), Blaston (2020), and Bait! (2017), revealed work on a new turn-based dungeon crawler RPG for SteamVR headsets, Oculus Quest, and traditional PC monitors.

Called Demeo, the studio says the game zeroes in on the tabletop gaming experience by including rollable dice and “highly-detailed miniatures capable of fantastic abilities and magic spells.”

The game’s co-op multiplayer is said to allow crossplay between platforms, letting users explore dungeons of a monster-infested underworld via Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift, and SteamVR headsets when it launches in 2021. It’s also said to include a non-VR mode for PC players too.

How Resolution Games plans on weaving their turn-based dungeon crawler in VR is still a mystery. From watching the teaser trailer alone, there could be set to be VR motion controller action-based alongside more standard table top conventions.

Granted, it’s also set to launch on PC for standard desktops, so it may be more of a pure tabletop gaming experience, where users sit around a virtual table more akin to Gloomhaven for PC. We’ll just have to wait to find out more.

You can now wishlist Demeo on Steam, and also sign up for updates for the upcoming release on Oculus platform headsets.
