Green Day Music Pack And 360°, 90° Levels Now Available In Beat Saber

Announced at The Game Awards after a live performance from the band, a six-song Green Day music pack is now available in Beat Saber alongside new 360° and 90° levels as well.

The latest music pack consists of six Green Day songs, including tracks from their current and past discography. Before the announcement at The Game Awards, Green Day performed live and played their classic track ‘Welcome to Paradise’ from their 1994 album Dookie and then a new track, ‘Father of All…’, from their upcoming 2020 album Father of All Motherfuckers. Beat Saber gameplay appeared on the big screen behind them and it became clear they were announcing a music pack for the game. Here are the six included tracks:

  • Fire, Ready, Aim
  • Father of All…
  • American Idiot
  • Holiday
  • Boulevard of Broken Dreams
  • Minority

360° and 90° levels are also launching, though Beat Saber tweeted earlier in the day that PSVR would receive “special 90° Levels as part of the next PS VR update.”

The new 360° and 90° levels “span a variety of songs from the core Beat Saber game as well as the various paid music packs” and are “custom engineered gameplay modes that open up the playing field and radically change the game.” If you’ve purchased any previous music packs, you won’t need to purchase additional 360° or 90° versions of those songs.

The Green Day music pack costs $8.99 and follows on from previous Imagine Dragons and Panic! At The Disco music packs.

Will you be picking up the Green Day music pack? Let us know in the comments.

Update: We received clarification about the availability of the Green Day pack and the story is now updated to reflect that.

‘Beat Saber’ Gets New ‘Rocket League’ Monstercat Music Pack DLC

Beat Games, the Czech Republic-based studio behind Beat Saber (2018), is again making good on their promise to keep the fresh music flowing to their block-slashing VR rhythm game. Starting today, you’ll be able to download the newest paid DLC pack featuring some of the catchiest tunes to find their way into Rocket League (2015).

The game’s newest music pack contains six songs you may recognize from the popular vehicular soccer game, provided by Monstercat, long-time music partners of both Rocket League and Beat Saber.

To go along with the tracks, the music pack is also adding a new beat-slashing environment inspired by Rocket League, which features goalposts flanked by a pair of rocket-powered cars.

Here’s the track list below:

Selling for $9, you’ll find the Rocket League x Monstercat music pack on Steam (Vive, Rift, Index, Windows VR), the Oculus Store (Rift, Quest), and the PlayStation Store (PSVR).

In a bit of a weird crossover, Rocket League also now features two new Beat Saber-themed customization items—a beat-block Topper and Boost animation—letting you show off your love for the VR game.

This brings the game’s paid DLC music packs to a total of four, including music packs from Panic at the Disco!Imagine Dragons, and Monstercat Music Pack Vol. 1.

‘Beat Saber’ is Getting New DLC Featuring Panic at the Disco Next Week, 360 Mode in December

Beat Games took to the stage at Oculus Connect today to make a surprise announcement that Beat Saber’s (2018) next music DLC is set to feature music from American pop rock band Panic! at the Disco.

The 360 mode, first shown on Quest earlier this summer, is also going to be made available on all platforms this December. If you haven’t had the chance to try it yet, check out our hands-on at E3 2019 in June.

The studio is staying tightlipped for now on the titles that will make up the Panic at the Disco DLC, however it is said to land on all platforms next week, which includes PSVR, Oculus Quest, and PC VR headsets via Steam and the Oculus Store.

A tweet from Beat Games however did reveal one measly kernel of info: the music pack will likely include the track ‘The Greatest Show’.

Most recently, Beat Games released a free update that brought along with it six new playable tracks from a variety of artists including Jaroslav Beck, the former CEO who has since transitioned to focusing entirely on securing deals for more music.

The game’s third OST came shortly after a paid DLC pack featuring Imagine Dragons.

The studio hasn’t mentioned pricing yet, however if the game’s historical DLC pricing remains constant with the new Panic at the Disco pack coming next week, it may cost $13 for the entire pack, or $2 per song individually.

Beat Saber Update Adds 6 New Songs And New Features For Free

Swinging arms at the ready; today’s Beat Saber update adds yet more songs for free.

Beat Games just launched its next major patch for the smash hit indie VR game. Headlining the update are six new songs, officially labeled ‘Original Soundtrack Vol. 3′. The tracklist includes a new track from Jaroslav Beck, Beat Games’ former CEO who recently stepped down to focus on music for the game.

But that’s not all. This update also brings the previously-promised color customization system. It allows you to select your own colors for sabers, notes and lights. No more Jedi red and blue for you. There’s also a new level environment override option.

Elsewhere this update brings a host of tweaks and fixes. Beat Games is promising improved lighting effects and more precise detection of angles when you swing. Some of the songs themselves have been slightly tweaked and a bug that stopped the game for starting properly has been addressed.

Beat Saber Update Tracklist

The update should be live on all platforms now. Here’s the tracklist for the OST 3, which you can listen to here:

Jaroslav Beck, Jan Ilavsky – Origins (ft. Mutrix)
Morgan Page – Reason For Living
Pegboard Nerds – Give A Little Love
PIXL – Full Charge
Slippy – Immortal
Boom Kitty – Burning Sands

There’s plenty more to come from Beat Saber land, though. We’re still awaiting the arrival of 360-degree levels, which we first saw at E3. These will definitely be appearing on Oculus Quest, but other platforms aren’t yet confirmed. Beat Games is also working on a third premium track pack, though we don’t know when that will launch. Last week Beck also announced plans to start funding indie VR developers as a means of giving back to the community. We’ll be sure to keep you updated with all the latest from the game going forward.

E3 2019: Beat Saber In 360 Mode On Oculus Quest Feels Like A New Game

E3 2019: Beat Saber In 360 Mode On Oculus Quest Feels Like A New Game

Beat Games is a studio that just won’t stop. Not only did they release a brand new music pack this week for Beat Saber featuring licensed music from Imagine Dragons, but they also debuted 360-degree versions of two of those new songs (Believer and Thunder) at E3 2019.

As someone that has played a lot of Beat Saber over the last year on Expert and Expert+ difficulties, let me tell you: playing Beat Saber in 360 degrees on a wireless device feels like a brand new game. This feels like the way it was always meant to be played and it reminded me of the first time I ever tried slicing blocks with glowing sabers. I wish I were playing it in 360 right now instead of writing this.

You can watch the interview above for more insights into the design of 360 levels in Beat Saber, but to describe the sensation simply it felt like the difference between standing in front of the TV miming dance moves in Just Dance and actually going out on the dance floor and grooving on your own. Usually when I play Beat Saber my feet are typically planted firmly and I move my body from the waist up — especially my arms. But when you’re playing a 360 level you need to keep everything mobile and able to switch around quickly.

One great example is during one of the tracks you need to drum the sabers to the beat of the music in rapid succession, but instead of just putting them as a stream in front of you the blocks cascade to the sides requiring you to spin as you hit them, and then rapidly spin back, literally putting your body in a flowing state. It’s pure joy and feels magical.

Another thing I noticed is that while playing Beat Saber in 360 it actually seemed less chaotic, but stull more difficult at the same time. The reason for that is since the notes are spread out across my entire field of view instead of just piled on top of one another directly in front of me, I could see more notes in my peripheral vision as they poured in from multiple angles. This keeps the difficulty up but removes some of the annoyances of a single track design.

They do a great job with the two 360 tracks that I tried of guiding you through the music so that you’re never unsure about which direction to face. And they accomplish this by making the music flow naturally from one direction to the next. You’re never asked to randomly spin around 180-degrees or see a blinking arrow telling you where to look. Instead it just works because it’s designed so tightly.

Currently there is no date for when Beat Saber’s 360 levels will become available, nor is there information on which platforms other than Quest they will debut on. We also don’t know which songs, but it sounds like they are eager to do 360 levels for as many tracks as possible.

Let us know what you think about the idea in the comments below!

Beat Saber DLC 2 Releases Next Month, Custom Songs Support Coming To Quest

beat saber quest

Beat Games today made a surprise announcement: custom songs created with Beat Saber’s new Level Editor will be able to be played on the Oculus Quest in a future update.

Beat Saber’s official level editor only launched last week, though the game has a long history of unofficial modding. This process required downloading third party tools and moving files around in the Beat Saber install folder.

Official support for custom songs had been a promised future feature since the game launched. However, Beat Games were wary of the copyright and ethical issues around opening up such a system. Most unofficial custom Beat Saber songs are unlicenced uses of the music. The company also expressed frustration at the quality of mods, which could lead to bad reviews for the game itself.

With the release of the level editor last week, many fans were disappointed to find it was PC-only. On Saturday just four days after release however, modder Brian Tate demonstrated a modded track working on the Oculus Quest. By yesterday, modders had managed to get multiple songs and a selection UI working.

Whether today’s announcement was a response to the rapid pace of modding or always planned may never be known. But the news is the same regardless- Oculus Quest will be getting custom songs.

There’s no details yet or a release timeline, but we’ll keep you updated when there is.

Next Music Pack

Beat Games also announced that the next DLC music pack will release June 10.

The company isn’t revealing yet the name of the artist, but provided this 8×8 image, likely of the album cover art, for fans to guess:

This will be the game’s second music pack. We gave the first, Monstercat Pack Vol. 1, an 8.5/10 in our review due to its quality and value. Hopefully this latest pack will impress even more.

Beat Saber Monstercat Music Pack Vol. 1 DLC Review: Fantastic Collection Of New Songs

Beat Saber Monstercat Music Pack Vol. 1 DLC Review: Fantastic Collection Of New Songs

Today is the day that Beat Saber finally gets a big influx of new music. Ever since the original game came out in Early Access on Steam almost a year ago with just 10 songs, the release schedule has been a slow trickle of one-off releases. Then when it launched on PSVR late last year, that platform got six new exclusive tracks. Now with the Monstercat Music Pack Vol. 1 DLC every platform is getting 10 brand new song that can either be purchased individually or in a bundle together for a slight discount.

The whole pack will you run you about $12.99 or just $1.99 for individual songs. The math works out so that if you’re interested in more than six of the new songs, you’re actually saving money by buying the whole pack. It’s like buy six, get four free in a way. That’s a pretty solid deal — especially when you consider the DLC is the same price on all platforms even though the game is $10 more expensive on PSVR.

Monstercat Music Pack Vol. 1 Track List

The full list of all 10 new songs in the first Music Pack DLC is as follows:

  • Till It’s Over – Tristam
  • We Won’t Be Alone (feat. Laura Brehm) – Feint
  • Boundless – Aero Chord
  • EPIC – Tokyo Machine
  • Stronger (feat. EMEL) – Stonebank
  • Overkill – RIOT
  • This Time – Kayzo
  • Emoji VIP – Pegboard Nerds
  • Rattlesnake – Rogue
  • Feeling Stronger (feat. Charlotte Colley) [High Maintenance Remix] – Muzzy

We made a playlist on Spotify so you can listen to them all ahead of time if you’d like. Some songs are slightly abbreviated versions in the game to stay within that 3-4 minute range sweet spot.

All in all it’s a fantastic selection of new songs. Chances are if you like Beat Saber and you like the existing style of music found in the game, then you’re probably going to enjoy most of the new songs on offer here in this pack. Probably.

I didn’t love all of them personally as I tend to like more upbeat tracks and not so much the heavy, grinding, bass-dropping songs that populate a lot of this selectoin. I was glad to see a lot of choices with vocal arrangements included since Escape is my favorite from the original launch track list. As a resut, Feeling Strong and We Won’t Be Alone are real standouts for me.

One thing you’ll likely notice is that all of the tracks are very similar sounding, which shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise since they’re all Monstercat artists. In the future I hope the team at Beat Games is willing to experiment with other genres more. Overkill is the only song in this pack that really ventures outside that drum and bass meets EDM pocket with an intro that’s heavy on guitar and vocals. It really rocks hard. But then there’s a bit of a bait and switch moment where it goes back to sounding like the rest.

This was my biggest issue with Audica from Harmonix as well and I’ve really appreciated the variety within its wheelhouse that Beat Saber displays, but I’m ready for a bit more experimentation finally. If anything, the modding scene has proved that songs you wouldn’t immediately think would be a good fit (such as Gangnam Style) are some of the best out there from a sheer entertainment perspective.

Other Beat Saber Updates

With today’s DLC also comes two free updates as well. For PC players they’re finally getting access to the songs that were previously exclusive to the PSVR version of the game, which brings over six new tracks for free for Rift, Vive, and Windows VR players. They’re technically dubbed “OST Vol. 2.” PC players also get the Campaign mode that debuted on PSVR for free which provides a bit more structure and defined challenges to tackle. It’s mostly a vanity feature without much real substance.

Beyond that the entire UI has been overhauled now. Before picking a song to play you can select from an “album” style menu that displays OST Vol. 1, OST Vol. 2, Extras (including songs like Virtual Self and K/DA, and finally the new Monstercat Music Pack Vol. 1 to pick from. It looks really clean and even the song menu is spruced up a bit as well.

Final Score: 8.5/10 – Great

Beat Saber is one of the first VR games to reach one million copies sold and it’s for good reason. If you’re hungry for more songs and love the signature brand of slicing blocks with red and blue sabers, then you can’t go wrong with this Music Pack. The song variety could be better and you probably won’t love every track, but at such a great value with such high quality it doesn’t get much better. Music Pack Vol. 1 absolutely solidifies Beat Saber’s place as one of the very best VR games to date.

Beat Saber, the base game, is available on PSVR for $29.99 and on both Steam and Oculus Home in Early Access for $19.99. This DLC pack is $12.99 all together or $1.99 per song. Read our Game Review Guidelines for more information on how we arrived at this score.

Beat Saber DLC Tracklist Leaks Early, Listen Here

Beat Saber DLC Tracklist

Whoops, it looks like the Beat Saber DLC tracklist leaked a little early. Awkward.

A post on the PlayStation Blog, picked up on Reddit, apparently listed the new tracks. It seems to have since been removed from the blog but a tweet from Beat Saber itself validates the list.

So, without further ado, meet Monstercat Music Pack Vol. 1. Each track in this DLC is taken from the Canadian electronic label. It includes:

We Won’t Be Alone (feat. Laura Brehm) – Feint

Boundless – Aero Chord

Emoji VIP – Pegboard Nerds

Epic – Tokyo Machine

Feeling Stronger (feat. Charlotte Colley) – Muzzy

Overkill – RIOT

Rattlesnake – Rogue

Stronger (feat. Emel) – Stonebank

This Time – Kayzo

Till It’s Over – Tristam

Not good enough for you? Well, some eager fan has already assembled all of the songs in one Spotify playlist. We’ve embedded that below.

Personally, we’re big fans of Emoji VIP and Overkill. They sound like they’ll give us a real workout. We’ll know for sure when the DLC hits on March 14th. Maybe we can get a little practice in by just waving our hands around to the music for now. Air Saber? Is that a thing?

This is the first of three Music Packs planned for the game. Expect the others to arrive over the next few months. Beat Games will add more free songs in the future, too. What do you want to see out of the next Beat Saber DLC tracklist?

Beat Saber’s First Paid Music Pack DLC Coming In March

Beat Saber’s First Paid Music Pack DLC Coming In March

Charge up your lightsabers beat sabers and get ready for some new music! The first-ever paid DLC Music Pack is coming to Beat Saber next month in March 2019 according to the official Beat Saber Twitter. It seems like it will be coming to both PC and PSVR at the same time.

Earlier today the account tweeted that “development” on the PSVR edition of the Music Pack was complete and that it’s almost ready to go, with the priority shifting to the PC version:

Then, in a follow-up tweet reply to someone, the account stated that the Music Pack will be releasing in March. They didn’t say when in March, so maybe as early as this weekend if we’re lucky. All the way back in November they announced the Music Pack (with 10 songs) was in active development. In fact, over 30 new songs are being planned right now.

Until now all of the previous songs released since the original collection of just 10 have been for free. First there was Angel Voices that came to the PC version shortly after Early Access launch, then the PSVR version launched with a handful of exclusive songs which eventually came to PC, an EDM song released and came to Beat Saber on the same day, and then the viral hit k-pop song about League of Legends, K/DA Popstars, hit both platforms at the same time.

Hopefully we find out more about the first paid DLC Music Pack soon. Let us know your thoughts down in the comments below!

‘Beat Saber’ Studio Plans on Bringing More Free Songs, Paid DLC Still TBA

Fans of the block-slashing rhythm game Beat Saber (2018) want to know: when are more songs coming? Well, the developers Beat Games say that they still need more time to work on it, but that users can at least look forward to more guaranteed free songs at some point too.

“We plan to add more songs to the game free with the updates, but Music Packs will contain more songs and will be paid so we can support [the artists] who are creating the music,” the studio explains in a tweet.

“We’ll need some more time to work on it before it’s ready for release. It’s not that easy as we thought, but we’re working on it,” the studio says in another tweet, telling fans to also stay tuned for further announcements.

Beat Games said that their first DLC pack could have come to users as early as December, but it seems the studio didn’t want to rush their first post-launch product despite some very potent Christmas hype thanks to a PSVR hardware bundle. Ostensibly an act of recompense, the studio released the hit viral track POP/STARS by K/DA, which landed on both PC VR and PSVR platforms right before Christmas.

Despite having celebrated such a smashing success, the studio is still a pretty small team a good nine months after Beat Saber first broke out on PC VR platforms. It remains a modest five-person operation, so while some fans may decry the lack of new songs, the studio really only has one chance to make this right, and seems to be going about it in a pretty smart way.

How to Fix 'Beat Saber' Custom Songs and Mods After an Update

As far as we can tell, Beat Games is playing their hand pretty conservatively; they aren’t throwing caution to the wind by going on a hiring spree, or buying a hip office in downtown San Francisco. At the moment, they’re likely focusing on making their first DLC an absolute must-have. The core game’s track list is a pretty hard act to follow, so differentiating new tracks from old one is probably a full-time job at this point too.

Whatever the case may be, we’ll be glued to the company’s official twitter profile in the coming weeks hoping for more K-POP, J-POP, Hip hop, and possibly even bebop.
