Beat Saber (2018), the popular block-slashing rhythm game, has undoubtedly been a standout success for VR. Now a Wall Street Journalreport alleges the game has generated over a quarter billion dollars.
Citing documents viewed by the Wall Street Journal, Meta has allegedly generated over $255 million as of October 2022.
While not stated explicitly in the report, this ostensibly includes base game unit sales and DLC sales across all supported platforms, which includes Quest, Quest 2, the original PSVR, and SteamVR headsets.
Acquired by Meta in 2019, developers Beat Games have released a wide swath of paid and free DLC, something it can owe to Meta’s deep pockets which has allowed it to cut deals with a number of record labels and high-profile artists.
The Journal maintains the documents included another staggering figure: Beat Saber was played by 1.47 million active devices per month, making it one of the 14 Quest games to gross over $20 million out of the 500 available on the store.
Notably, Beat Saber has yet to make the leap to Sony’s recently released PSVR 2 headset, making it a fairly important holdout to do so.
Beat Saber announced another music pack revamp today, which will add six new songs to the Panic! At The Disco pack and update the beatmaps, environments and lighting for its existing tracks.
Hot on the heels of the revamped Imagine Dragons pack from last month, today Beat Games is updating the Panic! At The Disco music pack. The update will adds songs from Panic!’s 2018 album Pray for the Weekend and 2022 album Viva Las Vengeance, while overhauling the pack’s existing four tracks.
The new tracks available today are:
Hey Look Ma, I Made It
Say Amen (Saturday Night)
Viva Las Vengeance
Dancing’s Not A Crime
Sugar Soaker
Crazy = Genius
While it’s nice to have some new tracks, it’s crazy that even after these new additions, the music pack still doesn’t include the band’s biggest hit, I Write Sins Not Tragedies.
These new tracks will feature a new Panic!-themed environment, using Beat Saber’s updated lighting and effect system. The pack’s original four tracks – Emperor’s New Clothes, High Hopes, The Greatest Show and Victorious – will also be updated with the new environment. Those existing tracks will also receive revamped beat maps featuring arc and chain notes, similar to the overhauled applied to the Imagine Dragons pack last month.
If you already own the existing four Panic! tracks, you can pick up the six new tracks for $7.79. The revamped pack is available in full for $12.99, with individual tracks available for $1.99 each.
Beat Saber just released an upgraded version of its Imagine Dragons DLC Music Pack, featuring two new songs and redesigned maps for the existing tracks.
The Imagine Dragons DLC tracks for Beat Saber first released in 2019, featuring 10 songs available for purchase individually or as a bundle. Since then, the team at Beat Games released a bunch of other DLC tracks and made some significant updates to the game, including new note types and an upgraded lighting system.
Given those changes since the initial release, Beat Games released a ‘new and improved’ Imagine Dragons DLC pack earlier today. The maps for the existing 10 tracks have been redesigned, now featuring arc and chain note types, alongside upgraded environments that use the game’s new lighting system and color scheme. Meta says that players “will immediately notice that the 10 legacy tracks have improved mapping and flow.”
The upgraded pack also includes two new songs – Bones and Enemy, the latter of which is the theme song to Netflix’s show Arcane, set in the League of Legends universe.
The upgraded pack now features 12 tracks total and is available for the same $14.99 price as the original, with individual tracks available for $1.99.
Meta says that existing owners of the former 10-track DLC bundle will be able to purchase an ‘upgrade’ that includes the two new tracks for $2.50. It’s unclear whether existing individually-owned tracks or those who do not purchase the $2.50 ‘upgrade’ will automatically receive the updated versions of the tracks for free. UploadVR has reached out to Meta for clarification and will provide an update if we receive a response.
The Beat Saber Electronic Mixtape DLC is available now on all platforms.
First announced during the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase back in April, the Electronic Mixtape features some of the biggest electronic artists today. The roster includes Deadmau5, Rudimental, Pendulum and Fatboy Slim among others. There are 10 tracks in total that cost $12.99 as a bundle, or you can pick your favorites for $1.99 each. Check out a brief teaser for the new pack below.
The full tracklist includes:
Waiting All Night (feat. Ella Eyre) by Rudimental
Witchcraft by Pendulum
Icarus by Madeon
Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff (feat. Rob Swire) by Deadmau5
Alone by Marshmello
Stay the Night (feat. Hayley Williams) by Zedd
Sandstorm by Darude
The Rockafeller Skank by Fatboy Slim
Freestyler by Bomfunk MC
Animals by Martin Garrix
Also don’t forget that this is one of the first music packs to launch following the introduction of new lighting effects and gameplay mechanics for the game. That means the Electronic Mixtape makes full use of the new note types.
As always, the DLC is available on Quest, PSVR and PC VR headsets. Combined with the recent launch of both the Fall Out Boy pack and the game’s fifth Official Soundtrack, it’s been a very busy few weeks for the VR sensation. That said we currently have no idea what plans Beat Games has for the future. With 3 music packs released in 2022, how many more can we expect before the end of the year?

Meta just announced Beat Saber’s next set of DLC tracks at today’s Meta Quest Gaming Showcase. The Beat Saber Electronic Mixtape will feature 10 hits from artists like Deadmau5, Zedd, Marshmello and more.
Most DLC packs for Beat Saber focus solely on one artist, but this pack will be the second DLC ‘mixtape’ release which features an array of different artists from one period.
Here’s the full tracklist of the Electronic Mixtape:
Waiting All Night (feat. Ella Eyre) by Rudimental
Witchcraft by Pendulum
Icarus by Madeon
Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff (feat. Rob Swire) by Deadmau5
Alone by Marshmello
Stay the Night (feat. Hayley Williams) by Zedd
Sandstorm by Darude
The Rockafeller Skank by Fatboy Slim
Freestyler by Bomfunk MC
Animals by Martin Garrix
As you can see, there are some big names and hits in the pack, but perhaps the most prominent is Sandstorm by Darude. IT’s one of the most iconic electronic songs of all time and a huge internet hit/meme track. In other words, it could be a perfect addition to the Beat Saber catalog.
The Electronic Mixtape release date follows on from the Fall Out Boy DLC, released last month, and has no confirmed release date as of yet. That being said, the time between announcement and release for Beat Saber DLCs tends to be pretty short, so expect to see it sooner rather than later.
As usual, the pack will be available across all platforms — Quest, Rift, PSVR and Steam — for a bundled price of $12.99 or an individual track price of $1.99 each.
This was just one announcement from today’s Meta Quest Gaming Showcase — keep an eye out for news on more releases and updates to come.
A Beat Saber Fall Out Boy pack is on the way soon, and we already know the tracklist.
The new pack for the smash hit VR game was just announced on Twitter with a short video seen below. It showcased new visuals for level themes complete with some of the lighting additions made in Beat Saber’s most recent update. There’s also some pyrotechnics on display.
Centuries
Thnks fr th Mmrs
This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race
Immortals
I Don’t Care
My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)
Dance, Dance
Irresistible
That brings the pack to eight songs total. There’s the usual mix of new songs and classics in here but we’ll be the first to point out that Sugar, We’re Going Down is missing from the list and that’s basically a crime and possibly the biggest omission since I Write Sins Not Tragedies missed out on the Panic! At The Disco pack in 2019. That’s two emo anthems from 2005 missing from Beat Saber and I’m sure you’ll all join me in protest.
Anyway, this will be the first premium Beat Saber DLC pack in 2022 after developer Beat Games released another free OST update a few weeks back. Given that pack also introduced some new block types to the game, you can hopefully expect to see them utilized here, too.
Beat Saber, VR’s favorite rhythm game, has been going strong for nearly four years now and shows no signs of slowing. Today the Meta-owned studio behind the title, Beat Games, launched its next free music pack, OST 5, which is introducing some recently teased block mechanics as well as six new songs.
Update (March 8th, 2022): The new OST 5 music pack adds six new songs to Beat Saber’s music library. Here’s the song list:
Schwank: “$1.78”
EEWK: “’Curtains (All Night Long)”
Camellia: “Final-Boss-Chan”
Tanger: “Firestarter”
The Living Tombstone: “I Wanna Be A Machine”
Jaroslav Beck feat. Meredith Bull: “Magic”
You can learn more about the new block mechanics in the release trailer, as well as the original article below:
Original Article (March 1st, 2022): Beat Saber launched in Early Access back in 2018 and in short order showed its ‘killer app’ potential. Following the game’s full launch in 2019, Beat Saber has become VR’s most popular, and likely profitable, game to date. The game has been so popular that Meta bought the studio behind the game, Beat Games, later that year.
The game is not only still going strong, but looks poised to evolve.
Today Beat Game announced the next free music pack for Beat Saber dubbed OST 5, saying it will arrive “soon.” (see update)
Beyond just adding more free levels to the base game (which is priced at $30 and available on Quest, PC VR, and PSVR), OST 5 could be the moment that Beat Saber sees the introduction of new block mechanics and a new lighting system, both of which the studio has teased since the start of the year.
Back in January the studio teased two distinct new mechanics. The first is the addition of lines which players must trace with their sabers; it looks like these lines can be used by themselves or preceding blocks in order to guide the player’s saber to the blocks along a specific path. The second new mechanic is strings of mini-blocks which also encourage the player to cut along a specific path, but in this case each contribute their own beat to the song.
It would be difficult to update old songs for these new mechanics, so it seems likely that they would be introduced along with new songs, like those coming in OST 5.
OST 5 could also bring a revamped lighting system the studio has been working on, which promises to give song makers and modders more control over the visual effects that accompany each song. The studio said in mid-February that the system would be coming as “part of our next release,” though it isn’t entirely clear if this would coincide with OST 5.
We’ll have to wait and see whether OST 5 brings these new systems to Beat Saber, but what we can say almost for certain is that the new song pack will push the game’s base song count above 40 (given 37 base tracks currently in the game and an average of five songs for recent OSTs). The bulk of the game’s official music—99 additional tracks, largely from well known artists—are available as paid DLC.
The Lady Gaga music pack is now available for Beat Saber, but is this release on the Edge of Glory or is it more of a Bad Romance? Here are our impressions.
When the Interscope Mixtape DLC was announced for Beat Saber, we hoped that it maybe signaled the beginning of a larger or ongoing deal to bring more of the label’s artists to Beat Saber. A few months later and approaching the end of the year, we can now say things played out pretty much as we had hoped — not only did Interscope and Beat Games release the Billie Eilish pack in September, but they’ve teamed up again to finish the year with a Lady Gaga music pack as well.
These two artists are a step up in popularity for Beat Saber — Eilish is one of the biggest pop stars right now, and Gaga has remained a huge force of nature in the music industry since her late 2000s debut. We were pretty impressed with the Billie Eilish pack and we’re happy to say that, by and large, the Gaga pack delivers as well.
The song selection is both generous and encompassing, hopefully pleasing long-time Gaga fans and the casual crowd alike. It helps that Gaga has such a selection of hits — when there’s so many certified bangers on offer, it’s hard to go wrong.
The majority of the tracklist features hits from Gaga’s debut album The Fame and its subsequent expanded reissue The Fame Monster. There’s also a few tracks from 2009’s Born This Way and the more recent 2020 release Chromatica. The new Gaga-themed environment is based on the latter album and looks absolutely fantastic.
But how do the new tracks play? For the most part, really well. I played on Expert and found that tracks to be fun, engaging and possessing a bouncy energy that feels reflective of Gaga’s style. The beat map design in this pack lands in the sweet spot that, for me, encapsulates good Beat Saber track design — not so hard that you have to replay tracks over and over just to understand and finish them, but not so easy that you can finish them on the first try and have zero areas to improve or practice.
There are, as usual, a few exceptions — Bad Romance seems noticeably easier on Expert, for example — but overall the tracks are solid and engaging, with Just Dance, Poker Face and Stupid Love coming away as my personal favorites. While the pack might be a tad easier in difficulty overall compared to its Eilish predecessor, on their own merits I found the Gaga tracks to be fun, unique and challenging in equal measure.
Difficulty aside, it’s really the creativity of these DLC packs, particularly their mapping, that is starting to become a selling point. The DLC packs seems to capture the spirit of the artists in their mapping increasingly well with each new release. The fun zany quirks of these beat maps evoke the exact right feeling and spirit for a Lady Gaga-themed release. Likewise, the rigid yet playful mapping of the Eilish beat maps felt well-curated for her tracks as well.
These little, almost-indescribable je-ne-sais-quoi elements that are sprinkled throughout the maps really sell the tracks as unique and thought-out experiences, tailored to the music and feel of the artist. This has improved with each release and it’s becoming a defining and differentiating factor of Beat Saber’s DLC.
As more Beat Saber music packs release, the disparity in difficulty between them is taking a back seat and becoming less important. While it would be nice to have more consistency across the board, it’s also commendable that Beat Games is are able to make each of these packs feel distinguished from one another and interesting in their own way.
Beat Saber is on the precipice of having so many DLC packs to choose from that the difficulty scale between them won’t matter. What will matter is that your preferred pack is fun to play and feels somewhat representative of the artist in question. In this way, both the Gaga pack and the Eilish pack are recent home runs, and I can’t wait to see who is next on the roster.
The Lady Gaga music pack is available now for Beat Saber on all platforms, with tracks sold individually or available as a bundle.
Continuing a trend of tapping music from some of the world’s most popular artists, Beat Saber today sees the surprise launch of a new Lady Gaga music pack which adds 10 of the pop-star’s songs to the game.
Following DLC music packs from the likes of Skrillex and Billie Eilish, today VR’s hit rhythm game Beat Saber sees the release of a new music pack from Lady Gaga.
Priced at $10 for the complete package, or $2 per song, the music pack brings 10 new tracks to the game, including some of the artist’s most popular tunes. Here’s the full track-list:
Alejandro
Bad Romance
Born This Way
Just Dance (feat. Colby O’Donis)
Paparazzi
Poker Face
Rain On Me (with Ariana Grande)
Stupid Love
Telephone (feat. Beyoncé)
The Edge of Glory
The Lady Gaga Beat Saber music pack will become available at some point this evening (though exact timing is unclear). It’s confirmed to be coming to all versions of the game, which include Quest, Oculus PC, Steam, and PSVR.
The announcement happened during The Game Awards event this evening; Meta (which owns the studio behind Beat Saber) pulled a similar move back in 2019 when the company surprise-launched the Green Day music pack during the same event.
The new pack brings the total number of official tracks available in the game to 136, with 37 being part of the base game while 89 are available as paid DLC.
Beat Saber also has a vibrant modding community which also makes countless unofficial tracks (AKA ‘custom songs’) available to the game. Players may have already played some of the tracks from the new Lady Gaga DLC, though the DLC tracks include official beat maps for all difficulties and usually reach a high quality bar (which isn’t always the case among Beat Saber custom songs). The official music pack also includes new environments and effects which act as a backdrop for the new songs.
Beat Saber announced its next music pack tonight at the 2021 Game Awards — the Lady Gaga Music Pack features 10 tracks and will be available tonight at 8pm PT.
In a similar fashion to the surprise Green Day music pack announce and release at the 2019 Game Awards, Meta and Beat Games dropped a surprise Lady Gaga Music Pack announcement during tonight’s broadcast of the awards show.
Live from @thegameawards: The @LadyGaga Music Pack is dropping on Beat Saber tonight at 8pm PT!
The music pack will release tonight and features 10 tracks primarily from Gaga’s 2008 debut The Fame (and its 2009 reissue The Fame Monster), with a smattering of tracks from both her 2009 sophomore album Born This Way and 2020 sixth solo album Chromatica.
Here is the full tracklist:
