Free Beat Saber Halloween Track Goes Live

It’s a busy day for the Beat Saber crowd. A little earlier, the PSVR version got full multiplayer support, and now all versions of the game have got a free new track too.

The free Beat Saber Halloween track arrives just in time and is called Spooky Beat. It was created by developer Beat Games’ music head and former CEO, Jaroslav Beck. You can listen to it right here or get a preview below.

As the name suggests, Spooky Beat has some chilling tones to it, but it definitely calls back to the original tracks that Beck and co made for the game in its early days. You can easily see this being a tough new track for the game’s most devoted fans to master. The track will be live across Quest, PSVR and PC VR versions of the game, so keep an eye out.

It’s been a while since Beat Saber has seen a free content update, with recent new tracks from artists like Billie Eilish and Skrillex adding to the VR game’s ever-growing library of premium content. Beat Games did, however, recently add crossplay between the Oculus and Steam versions of the game.

Oh, and this is Content ID free, meaning you’ll be able to stream the track live with no hassle.

Beat Saber Billie Eilish Music Pack DLC: Hands-On & Impressions

The Billie Eilish music pack is now available for Beat Saber. But will it leave you feeling Happier Than Ever, or more like a bad guy? Here are our impressions.

Billie Eilish is one of the biggest pop artists in the world right now, coming off a highly successful debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go, in 2019 and gearing up for a world tour to support her sophomore album Happier Than Ever, which released in August. In this Beat Saber collaboration, there’s 10 songs that span both albums (and one from her debut EP, Don’t Smile At Me) as well as an elegantly gothic new environment to match. As we’ve spoken about before, this music pack likely marks a strategic push by Facebook to entice a younger, less niche audience towards VR, using one of the biggest artists of the moment.

Considering that, there’s a lot of pressure for the pack to hold up to several audiences — Billie Eilish fans, Beat Saber fans, or those in between who are completely new to either or both. The good news is that the Billie Eilish packs holds its ground as one of the better Beat Saber releases of the past year or so. While I enjoyed the Skrillex music pack that released just a few weeks ago, it felt very similar in style to the rest of the Beat Saber OST, mainly because of genre crossover.

I’ve found that the best Beat Saber packs are the ones that embrace the genre or artist at hand, presenting beat maps that feel consistent in style and difficulty compared to the wider catalog, while peppering a few distinct touches throughout that give the songs a flair to match the artist’s style. With the Panic! At The Disco pack, the mapping often felt quite fluid and free, matching the more upbeat, dancier style of pop punk. For Green Day, the pack felt a bit more rigid, mirroring the heavy guitar and drum rhythms that are the backbone of the band’s anthems.

The Billie Eilish pack walks a fine line somewhere in between. It presents a series of beat maps that feel both comfortably familiar within the Beat Saber library and yet also refreshingly playful with the ways they represent Billie’s unique musical style.

The interesting beats from Billie and her producer/brother Finneas give the a solid rhythmic foundation, on which they add sections that follow Billie’s vocals lines a bit closer. For the most part, it works really well and it’s starting to feel like DLC maps are getting more consistent and successful with how they split focus between instrumental and vocal rhythm – something that previous releases, (cough-Green Day-cough, really struggled with). There are times where things feel a little sloppy, especially certain representations of Billie’s more rhythmically lax vocal embellishments, but it’s a minor complaint in a series of maps that feel equally elegant, challenging and playful.

Personal highlights include you should see me in a crown, bury a friend and Therefore I Am, along with bellyache, which is now up there as one of my favorite official Beat Saber tracks of all time. The recurring issue of varying difficultly across Beat Saber music packs (both within the pack itself and compared to other releases) feels less of an issue here, if not maybe slightly improved.

There might not be one single thing I could point to that sets this Billie pack apart from the rest, but it somehow does feel like one of the most polished and well-rounded packs of the bunch. This is especially true given the volume of tracks on offer — with ten tracks included, it’s one of the larger packs as well.

Given that Billie Eilish is signed to Interscope Records, this collaboration might have been in the pipeline for quite some time — Facebook and Interscope may have been talking about this pack even before the Interscope Mixtape released earlier this year. It certainly feels like it’s had more time in the oven, backed up by the DLC’s impressive trailer (also embedded above) featuring a room of dancers doing interpretive Beat Saber moves to Billie’s music.

All in all, these songs are solid additions to the Beat Saber’s library which regular players should enjoy. However, it’s also a great presentation of Billie’s music for her fans, especially those who might play this pack at a friend’s house or on a family member’s headset as their first introduction to VR.

With the exception of BTS, every other DLC music pack for Beat Saber has featured very popular artists who have had successful careers, but are largely past the peak of their popularity. This isn’t a bad thing, but it’s a contrast to this pack, which features an artist who is absolutely all the rage right now and one of the biggest names in pop music to emerge over the last few years. Luckily for Facebook and Beat Games, they have capitalized on the opportunity well and provided one of the better (if not best) music packs available for Beat Saber.

The Billie Eilish music pack is available now for Beat Saber on all platforms, in a bundle for $12.99 or sold separately for $1.99 per track.

Beat Saber Billie Eilish DLC Available Now, Tracklist Revelaed

The Billie Eilish music pack DLC is available now for Beat Saber, featuring 10 tracks from her albums and EPs.

The music pack was announced last week, hot off the release of the Skrillex music pack just under a month ago. You can check out a trailer for the Billie Eilish pack embedded above, featuring a pretty impressive array of headset-clad dancers making some interpretive Beat Saber moves to Billie’s music.

Yesterday, we speculated on seven of the ten tracks based on clues posted to social media. The good news is that we got six out of the seven predictions right — hopefully enough to let me keep my Billie Eilish fan pass for now.

Here’s the full ten-song tracklist:

all the good girls go to hell

bad guy

you should see me in a crown

bury a friend

bellyache

Happier Than Ever

I Didn’t Change My Number

NDA

Oxytocin

Therefore I Am

The first four songs listed above are from Billie’s debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, while bellyache marks the only track from her debut EP Don’t Smile at Me in 2017. The remaining five tracks are all from her recently released sophomore album Happier Than Ever.

As per usual, the music pack also comes with a new custom environment, themed around Billie’s aesthetic. It looks like it will change depending on the track, which is a nice touch and feels in keeping with the high attention to visual detail and aesthetics that Billie values in representations of her music.

Beat Saber remains a huge VR staple across multiple platforms — on PSVR, it has topped the EU PlayStation Store charts for an entire year, with the US not far behind. Oculus and Steam crossplay was also recently enabled, widening crossplay support, and the Skrillex pack launched just under a month ago as well.

Beat Saber Clues Reveal Partial Tracklist For Billie Eilish DLC

A series of cryptic videos on Beat Saber social media accounts have revealed some of the tracks from this week’s upcoming Billie Eilish DLC music pack.

The clues were posted to Beat Saber and Oculus social media accounts, each hinting at a certain song. Billie is known to be a very visual artist, often taking heavy control over the artistic direction and visuals around her releases. Each of the cryptic animated videos hints at visual themes from her music videos, some of which are easier than others. Luckily for you, I am UploadVR’s resident Billie Eilish fan and have interpreted these clues for you.

The first clue posted to the Beat Saber account, featuring a car, seems like a reference to everything i wanted, her 2019 single that released independent of either album. The second clue featuring the phone and the rain is her title track from her second album, Happier Than Ever. The third clue, featuring a pull-along cart, is a throwback to a much earlier Billie Eilish song, bellyache, from her debut EP Don’t Smile at Me.

Over on the Oculus channel, a video rotates between 3 further clues. The first one, featuring the mouth and hanging spider, is you should see me in a crown. The second, featuring hands reaching under a bed, is bury a friend and the next hint featuring the pretzels and the staircase is Therefore I Am. The very last one, featuring fire and wings, is all the good girls go to hell.

We know that the DLC will be 10 tracks total, so including all of the above brings us to 7 tracks — 3 from her debut album, 2 tracks from her recent album Happier Than Ever and 2 that were independent singles or EP releases.

Of the 3 remaining tracks, the most obvious pick omission is her global smash hit bad guy. It’s also likely that more tracks from Happier Than Ever make the cut — recent single Lost Cause is a strong candidate, and the hard-hitting Oxytocin could fit in well with the rest of the Beat Saber catalog. If not those, then my strange addiction and wish you were gay from her debut album could also work quite well.

Beat Saber Billie Eilish DLC Launches Next Week

Beat Saber Billie Eilish DLC is coming in hot off the back of last month’s Skrillex pack.

The official Beat Saber Twitter account just confirmed the news. The pack will launch on September 21. Right now there’s no word on how much the pack will cost, nor which songs it will contain and how many tracks will be added. That said, the Skrillex pack featured 8 songs for $10.99. Eilish headlined our list of artists we most wanted to see in the game a year ago. Are we psychic? Who knows.

We’re used to waiting a fair few months for Beat Saber DLC, so it’s surprising to see a fast turnaround for this pack. It’s a busy time for Beat Saber in general; earlier this week Beat Games launched cross-play for the title, allowing SteamVR and Oculus users to play together for the first time. PSVR players can’t use the feature, though, because that version of the game still doesn’t have multiplayer support. It’s been nearly a year now, but Beat Games says it’s still working on support.

This won’t be Eilish’s first brush with VR, either. In September 2019 one of the artist’s concerts aired in Oculus Venues as one of the first experiences of its kind.

Beat Saber Launches Skrillex Music Pack Today

Beat Saber’s latest DLC is the Skrillex Music Pack, and it’s launching today.

Beat Games just revealed the pack after a week of teases. As with other DLC it’s coming to all platforms. The pack consists of eight tracks including some of the artist’s biggest hits like Bangarang as well as the newly-released track, Don’t Go, which features Justin Bieber. Yep, that’s right, the Bieb is now officially in Beat Saber. Check out the trailer below.

Beat Saber Skrillex Pack Launches

The DLC costs $10.99 for it all or $1.99 per track. This will no doubt be a popular pack for a lot of Beat Saber fans given that the artist’s music is in line with a lot of the tracks Beat Saber first included years ago.

Skrillex joins the likes of Green Day, Linkin Park and Panic! At The Disco as artists that have official music packs in the smash-hit VR game. Beat Games also offers a mix of artists in certain packs, like the recent Interscope Pack which featured music from the titular label.

There’s still no word on possible multiplayer support for PSVR players, which is now close to a year late after Quest and PC got the update in late 2020.

New Beat Saber DLC Music Pack Releases August 31

Beat Games announced another new music pack is coming to Beat Saber in just under a week’s time, following on from the release of the Interscope Mixtake DLC in May.

The announcement was made on Twitter, embedded above,  accompanied by a video playing some heavy electronic-sound beats with thumping bass.

It’s hard to tell if the music in the video is referencing anything in particular or providing clues as to the content of the pack. If it is referencing something specific, it’s seemingly not anything that people have picked up on. With previous releases, keen-eared players have picked up segments from well-known songs in teaser videos, but so far it’s seems to be anyone’s guess for this next pack.

The last music pack, the Interscope Mixtape, was announced in a similar fashion and ended up being the first DLC release to feature multiple artists in the same pack. The mixtape was not the first time Facebook and Beat Games had worked with the record label either — Imagine Dragons, who received their own DLC pack a few years, is signed to Interscope — so it’s not out of the question that we might receive a follow-up mixtape with other artists and new songs.

As we pointed out back in May, there are plenty of other artists under the Interscope label, including Billie Eilish, Dr. Dre and Lady Gaga — the former of which is currently doing heavy promotional work for her sophomore album, Happier Than Ever.

That being said, there’s no indication the music pack has any association with Interscope at all — it could be something completely unexpected and different.

The next Beat Saber music pack releases August 31. It will release for Beat Saber on all platforms, as confirmed by Beat Games on Twitter. Still no word on PSVR multiplayer, though.

Beat Saber Interscope Mixtape DLC: Tracklist And Impressions

The Beat Saber Interscope Mixtape DLC is here, featuring Kendrick Lamar, LMFAO and more. Here’s the full tracklist and some early impressions.

Earlier this week, Oculus teased the release of a new Beat Saber music pack called the Interscope Mixtape, seemingly set to release on May 27.

The DLC is now available and features 7 tracks from artists signed to Interscope Record artists, available as a bundle for $9.99 or individually for $1.99 each. Here’s the full tracklist:

Kendrick Lamar – DNA.
LMFAO ft. Lauren Bennett, GoonRock – Party Rock Anthem
OneRepublic – Counting Stars
The Pussycat Dolls – Don’t Cha
Limp Bizkit – Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle)
Maroon 5 – Sugar
Gwen Stefani – The Sweet Escape ft. Akon

This is the first time that Beat Saber has released a premium DLC pack that features multiple artists in the same pack – previously releases, such as the BTS, Linkin Park and Green Day packs to name a few, were all focused on multiple tracks from just one artist.

We’ve managed to get our hands on the tracks already and found it to be a pretty excellent selection of 2010s pop tracks, with some newer and older stuff from other genres with the Kendrick and Limp Bizkit tracks.

In the past, we’ve been a bit frustrated with Beat Saber’s inconsistent quality in new releases – the tracks in the Green Day pack varied quite drastically in difficulty, while the OST 4 tracks seemed to have a larger than normal gulf between Hard and Expert difficulties.

We’ve only had time to play through the Interscope Mixtape tracks a couple of times each on Expert difficulty, but on the whole they seemed to be appropriately challenging while not impossible on Expert. We need more time to properly assess them, but each song threw in some fun little beat map nuances that matched the style or lyrics of the song in playful ways. The new custom environment, themed almost like a garage with some classic Mustang-like cars sitting around, is absolutely awesome as well.

A particular highlight is Kendrick Lamar’s DNA, which mostly follows the rhythm of Lamar’s rap verses in interesting ways. It’s a breath of fresh air to have some rap included in Beat Saber, providing something new while still also giving good rhythmic structure for the beat maps.

The pop tracks like Don’t Cha and Sweet Escape have bouncy beat maps that feel appropriate, while Counting Stars makes good use of the song’s strong beat as the backbone of meatier sections. Party Rock Anthem provides a good mix between creativity and challenge as well, but the song itself gets quite repetitive and makes the level feel longer than it maybe otherwise would.

However – as always with Beat Saber – veterans, beginners and players at every level will likely have different opinions of the pack. We’re looking forward to reading the community response and spending more time with the tracks over the next few days. Regardless, it’s fantastic to see a pack featuring a mix of artists and genres – it’s something we hope to see more of in the future.

Beat Saber OST 4 Update Out Now For Free On All Platforms (Update)

[Update 3/18] OST 4 is now available in Beat Saber for free on all platforms. The update includes four new songs:

  • It Takes Me (ft. Waylon Reavis) by Boom Kitty
  • Spin Eternally by Camellia
  • Into the Dream (ft. Jakub Tirco) by Jaroslav Beck
  • LUDICROUS+ by Jaroslav Beck

[Original 3/15] Beat Games revealed today that the fourth Original Soundtrack DLC for Beat Saber (OST 4) is slated to release this week on March 18th. The update will be free.

Beat Saber OST 4

Former Beat Games CEO and current Head of Music revealed late last year during a video livestream (more details here) that the “theme” for OST 4 will be “guitars and synthetic guitars” with “metal-ish” music. According to Beck there is a lot of electronic music and he has always wanted to do a metal song.

On a personal level, this is great news. The Linkin Park DLC is my favorite paid music pack across all of Beat Saber so I whole-heartedly welcome more guitar-focused music for the game. As someone that played Guitar Hero and Rock Band religiously in late high school years and college, I am extremely excited to tap back into that mindset again.

In the video above you can hear a quick preview of one of the tracks. There isn’t much more to go off of, but the previous official release, OST 3, was a free download so fingers crossed this new pack will be free as well. According to some follow-up tweets from the official Beat Saber account it sounds like this pack may also include a new environment. Perhaps that’s what is teased when the ‘4’ shows up on-screen in the video teaser within the tweet embedded at the top of this article.

Let us know what you think of the news down in the comments below! We won’t have to wait but a few days before diving into the new music tracks for ourselves.

BTS Comes to ‘Beat Saber’ in New Music Pack DLC, Trailer Here

Beat Saber, the block-slashing rhythm game, now has a music pack featuring the infectious grooves of South Korean pop group BTS.

The paid DLC music pack brings the septet to the game for the first time in the form of animated chibi characters, called ‘TinyTAN’, who fly in during songs to sing and dance as you chop away at in-coming blocks.

Now available on all platforms, the BTS music pack features 12 tracks:

  • Blood Sweat & Tears
  • Boy With Luv (Feat. Halsey)
  • Burning Up (FIRE)
  • Dionysus
  • DNA
  • DOPE
  • Dynamite
  • FAKE LOVE
  • IDOL
  • MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)
  • Not Today
  • UGH!

Like most music packs for the game, the new BTS Music Pack is a paid DLC ($15) available across all supported platforms, including Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift, SteamVR, and PSVR.

Inaugurating the launch of Oculus Quest 2 back in October, multiplayer support lets you slash alongside four other players in both private and public matches. Beat Saber’s multiplayer mode doesn’t feature cross-platform play, and only supports official songs in the base game and DLCs, however Facebook’s studio Beat Games says multiplayer may go cross-play at some point in the future.

Multiplayer support for PlayStation VR is notably still missing, which is expected to arrive sometime next year.
