See Mars Up Close In This Mars 2030 Trailer

Fusion Media Group and NASA have partnered to take virtual reality (VR) fans, students and teachers everywhere to the red planet Mars. Mars 2030 simulates the first manned mission to Mars, with the planet and technology featured based on real NASA innovations.

The experience will launch in July 2017 for $14.99 USD on HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR, but student and educators will be able to download it for free.

Mars2030_1

The terrain in the experience is modelled after real satellite data NASA has taken from the planet, and players will be able to feel what it’s like to drive the Mars (Multi-Mission Space Exploration Vehicle) Rover and explore the surface of the planet. There’s also an android partner named Valkyrie that’ll accompany you – though there’s no guarantee NASA will actually have those ready for 2030.

There’s a total of 15 square miles of planet surface to explore, so the most curious players will find themselves exploring the surface potentially for days, if not weeks.

You won’t be able to try this at home without some pricey equipment, but the video below also demonstrates a special low-gravity rig for lucky players to use with the demo, cementing that extra-terrestrial experience. Known as the ARGOS Mars partial gravity simulation, it certainly looks like the premier way walk on a virtual version of the red planet.

Keep an eye out for Mars 2030 launching in July 2017, and for just a sample of the amazing sights you can see in NASA’s alien adventure, watch the trailer below.

VR Slugger: The Toy Field now available for HTC Vive on Steam

If you need some batting practice the perfect videogame for you just came to Steam and the HTC Vive – VR Slugger: The Toy Field. Poly Poly Games’ big hitter promises to be “The best virtual reality (VR) batting experience ever!”

The game takes on a cartoony art style and presentation, as one might expect from a game with the subtitle “The Toy Field”. Characters take on a chunky polygonal appearance which still manages to be charming enough. Couple this with some pretty, interactive backgrounds – including an erupting volcano – and you’ve got a fairly extreme baseball experience. Well, as extreme as baseball gets.

It’s not just a batting game though – there’s puzzles to be solved with the physics-based batting system, completing all of which will earn you an exciting Golden Bat – fancy.

There’s a Time Attack mode too, to see how many Home Runs you can hit in 30 seconds – the biggest VR baseball fans will be able to compare your scores with people around the globe and get competitive.

The game is loosely based on Yakyuban, a Japanese board game that simulates a fairly simple game of baseball, thus the cute toy-aesthetic. The game will also feature “secret triggers” in the field to help players achieve high scores. To grab VR Sluggers: The Toy Field, take a look at the game on Steam.

PlayStation Aim Compatible Special Forces VR Promises Cross-Platform Multiplayer

VR Visio games have announced their latest virtual reality (VR) videogame, Special Forces VR. Powered by Unreal Engine, the videogame will be releasing on all the big head-mounted display (HMD) devices; PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Special Forces VR will support a variety of different VR peripherals, including the PlayStation Aim controller, but also special devices such as haptic suits, guns and “locomotion simulators.” VR Visio says this makes the title perfect for esports, though the benefit of VR in esports remains to be seen.

The game plays out essentially like Counter Strike, with players choosing either military or terrorist factions and playing against one another in a variety of game modes – but with the game built from the ground up for VR.

Players will be able to enjoy cross-platform play and wide, open immersive worlds to shoot enemies in – in VR, weapons and tools like riot shields really take on a new dimension when compared to when featured in traditional shooters, with motion controls allowing you to angle and move the shield in different directions, while blind-firing your weapon.

If you’re interested in signing up for beta tests, you can do so on VR Visio’s website here. Beta tests will go live in September 2017.

For more on Special Forces VR, be sure to take a look at the trailer below – everything looks incredibly promising, and by September we’ll know how good it plays. For more on Special Forces VR and everything else PlayStation VR stay on VRFocus.

Air Rhythm Action Videogame Airtone Available on Oculus Store and Steam Now

If you’re looking for a new virtual reality (VR) experience that’ll really send your heart rate soaring, Airtone might be just what you’re looking for. From developers historia Inc., Airtone is an aerial rhythm action game that’ll see you hitting notes while soaring through the skies.

You’ll meet Neon, a girl who was left behind on Mars, and play as her android partner collecting “Rhythm” from the world. The game promises a story mode, and collectible songs and objects to populate a home base with.

The game’s product page promises to “place you in a powerful rhythm gaming experience where you’ll feel like you’re tearing across the skies to the music.”

The only thing that might hold back some Oculus Rift owners is that the game requires motion controls to play – either HTC Vive’s Tracked Motion Controllers or the Oculus Touch controllers. HTC Vive owners will already have the necessary controllers of course, but Oculus Rift owners might need to buy an expensive peripheral to play this one.

The game is colourful and looks incredibly fluid, with worlds that bounce and pulse in time to the music – couple that with some addictive tunes and Airtone could be a great videogame for rhythm action fans.

Take a look at the trailer below to get a good idea of what flying with Neon and collecting Rhythm will be like. If you want to fly with Neon for yourself, take a look at Airtone on Steam or the Oculus Store.

Get £100/$100 Oculus Store Credit With Your New Oculus Rift This Month

Oculus are hoping to bring more customers over to the Rift this June, with a three-figure bonus to anyone willing to invest in their latest gadgets. Oculus announced the UK deals on their Oculus UK Facebook page, telling customers looking to buy an Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) and Oculus Touch motion controllers that they will be rewarded with £100 GBP or $100 USD to spend on the Oculus Store – not a bad deal.

Mainstream adoption of dedicated virtual reality (VR) devices is good so far, but not as high as HMD producers like Oculus and HTC would like it to be. Oculus are clearly hoping that a big voucher for a few games on their store will entice customers on the fence to take the plunge.

Oculus Research

Interested buyers in the UK can purchase the Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch from Scan Computers, Amazon UK or GAME to get their store credit. In the US customers should turn their sights to Amazon US.

Eagle-eyed consumers will spot a few other bonuses available from those retailers too – GAME are offering a further three free games to sweeten the deal; Lucky’s Tale, Dragon Front and Toy Box. Scan Computers UK are also offering the space dogfighter EVE: Valkyrie.

Amazon US’ product page specifies how customers will get their store credit; “We will send you a promotional code with redemption instructions via email within two days of your order shipping.”

If you’ve got a VR ready PC and have been on the fence about VR, this might be the perfect time to take the plunge into the virtual world.

E3’s PC Gaming Show Set to Feature Oculus, Intel, Tripwire Interactive, Ready At Dawn

E3 has just kicked off and already announcements are coming from everywhere, and now we know what to expect from this Monday’s PC Gaming Show. Oculus don’t have their own booth at the event this year, and will be showing off anything new during the show.

We already know that Ready at Dawn are hard at work on Lone Echo, a game we’ve already spoken to the developers about. Set 100 years in the future, Lone Echo will see you playing as Jack, the first sentient AI. Hopefully we’ll find out more information about the Oculus Rift exclusive.

Tripwire Interactive are hard at work on games for the Oculus Rift too, with Killing Floor: Incursion still in development we can safely expect more information. The first person co-op shooter has players assume the role of a solider who shoots down a variety of supernatural monsters.

Intel has exciting news for virtual reality (VR) fans too – hopefully we’ll hear more about their WiGig Wireless VR Solution. Announced a few months ago, we hope to hear more concrete details on when we might be getting our hands on the technology ourselves.

There is of course room for brand new announcements from all of these companies, and many more, at the PC Gaming Show, taking place Monday 10am PST, 6pm BST.

VRFocus will be talking to Ready at Dawn and Intel on the show floor, and will have full impressions of everything they have to show at E3 2017. For everything from E3, stay on VRFocus.

Brand New Arizona Sunshine Gameplay Trailer for PlayStation VR

If you can’t get enough of shooting down hordes of zombies in virtual reality (VR), then you PlayStation VR owners out there might want to take a look at Arizona Sunshine. The game was beloved by critics when it released on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift last year, and now it’s time for PlayStation gamers to get involved.

Vertigo Games’ first person zombie shooter features a full single-player campaign where your player travels through a wasteland filled with swarms of the undead.

Arizona Sunshine PlayStation VR screenshot

As VRFocus said in our preview with the game on PlayStation 4 Pro; “Less of an adventure and more of a shoot-anything-that-moves experience, Arizona Sunshine follows the hugely successful Farpoint as being a first-step into new territory; this isn’t as deep an FPS experience as Destiny nor as engrossing a story as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but then it shouldn’t be expected to behave as such. The fact that it’s light years ahead of being VR’s Space Invaders is commendable in its own right.”

When it comes to shooters using the PlayStation Aim controller on PlayStation VR, Arizona Sunshine looks to be as essential as the lauded Farpoint. See more of Arizona Sunshine in our new gameplay trailer below, including some superb sniper shots.

Air Force Special Ops: Nightfall coming to PlayStation VR for Free

If you’re looking for something new to do with your PlayStation VR, you’re in luck – the U.S. Air Force is releasing a new virtual reality (VR) experience just for you.

Known as Air Force Special Ops: Nightfall, the main objective of the videogame seems to be jumping from a plane, skydiving down to earth and pulling your parachute. There aren’t many screenshots right now, so all we know for sure is that players will be enjoying some seriously nice landscapes for thousands of feet in the air.

But of course the best part of the package has to be that it’s completely free from June 20th 2017. A PlayStation VR and Camera is required, of course, along with two PS Move controllers – but as long as you have all that equipment, you can enjoy some Air Force action for yourself.

Interesting to note is that the game is developed and paid for by the U.S. Air Force “for the purpose of marketing and recruitment.” On top of that, both Sony and the U.S. Air Force want to make clear on the product page that they don’t endorse each other whatsoever.

For the low, low price of free, it’s hard to turn down Air Force Special Ops: Nightfall. Even if it’s not any good, it doesn’t have stay on your hard drive for long.

Take a look at Air Force Special Ops: Nightfall on PSN. For everything else in the world of VR, stay on VRFocus.
