SIGGRAPH 2017’s VR Village Hosts Diverse Range of VR and AR Tech

SIGGRAPH 2017 is due to be held in Los Angeles this Summer, and their VR Village is planning a great range of experiences for attendees. VR Village is one of the newer programs within the SIGGRAPH conference, and is hoping to wow audiences with unique applications of both virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).

Promising to showcase unique applications for both VR and AR in fields such as health, education, entertainment, design and gaming, VR Village exhibitors are hoping to impress new business partners as well as the public.SIGGRAPH 2017 logo

Diversity is the focus of 2017’s VR Village. Previous events looked at art and simulations, while 2017 looks towards the diversity of both creators from around the world and their projects, as Denise Quensel, 2017 VR Village Chair, explains; “We made a conscious effort for diversity — we tried to normalize our content to be as diverse as possible. We believe that diversity in content, and diversity of contributors, helps facilitate perspectives and opportunities that are of great benefit to attendees.

“The experiences that will be seen at this summer are not only outstanding examples of VR and AR, but can only be experienced in SIGGRAPH’s unique VR Village space.”

Interesting exhibits include Neurable: Brain-Computer Interfaces for Virtual and Augmented Reality, a promising leap into mind-controlled virtual reality, Out of Exile, a room-scale VR experience telling a story of LGBTQ discrimination, and HOLO-DOODLE, a “VR hangout” experience featuring naughty robots making its world premiere at SIGGRAPH 2017.

SIGGRAPH 2017 is taking place from July 30th to August 3rd 2017 in Los Angeles, where the event will showcase the latest in computer graphics technology and interactive experiences.

E3 Coliseum Line-Up Announced

This year’s E3 will be the first to feature the E3 Coliseum, a new event that the Entertainment Software Association hope will bring attendees closer to games developers and industry professionals. With the full line-up now announced, gamers heading to E3 now know what to expect from the new main stage event.

Gamers can expect the two-day event, happening on June 13th and 14th, to include live demos of games being showcased at E3, developer panels, Q&As, and more, covering the full spectrum of gaming and experiences available across PC, consoles, smartphones and, of course, virtual reality.

Game fans can look forward to more than just game industry veterans appearing on stage too, as confirmed special guests include recognisable names such as actor Jack Black, popular astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, screenwriter of Guardians of the Galaxy James Gunn, Breaking Bad writer Gennifer Hutchison, Ghostbusters producer Ivan Reitman, Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, and more.

Titles confirmed to be shown at the event include Call of Duty: WWII, Assassin’s Creed, and a brand new title from Bethesda Softworks, which is due to be announced at their event.

If you’re enjoying E3 from home, you can still get involved with E3 Coliseum. Viewers will be invited to submit questions during panels and Q&As, while watching the event on either Facebook Live, Twitch, Mixer or YouTube.

Hit Gear VR Puzzle Game Neverout Finally Releases On HTC Vive And Oculus Rift

HTC Vive and Oculus Rift owners with a penchant for entrapment will be overjoyed – SETAPP’s claustrophobic Neverout has hit both Oculus Home and Steam, just as they announced last week.If you’ve been looking for new immersive puzzler to jump into, this might be for you.

Described by VRFocus as “an experience that stands up to last year’s big releases,” Neverout released to widespread positivity.

With each stage set in a cube, the player must navigate through a grid and solve electrifying puzzles in a dingy industrial atmosphere – the run time of approximately five hours might put some off, but by all accounts it’s a great experience made all the more immersive with virtual reality (VR).

For control options, SETAPP have provided a range of solutions, including Oculus Touch and HTC Vive’s motion-controllers, in addition to Oculus Remote and Xbox One controller support.

In addition to controller support, Neverout will also look superior with graphics enhanced when compared to its Gear VR counterpart, offering a full, sharp HD experience.

To add to the package, SETAPP have introduced a comfort mode to ease those inexperienced with VR into the experience, hopefully alleviating any simulation sickness concerns – this mode allows players to warp around their environment slowly, instead of having to navigate the enclosed spaces with a controller.

All of it shapes up to be the best way to experience SETAPP’s intriguing puzzler, now available at a special promotional price of £6.39 GBP, or $9.99 USD.
