A fair number of virtual reality (VR) titles have taken inspiration from 80s arcade titles as well as classic films like Tron to create virtual worlds filled with brilliant neon colours and angular, wire-frame environments. Neonwall wears its arcade inspiration on its sleeve as it presents a VR puzzle experience.
Neonwall was developed by Norain Games who have created a wire-frame neon world where the player needs to ensure that a ball reaches the goal.
The development team say that focus, concentration and timing are all essential skills for playing Neonwall. Players don’t directly control the rolling ball, but instead have to alter the environment around the ball instead.
Players can two coloured lasers which can be used to break blocks, move blocks or swap the colour of the block and the ball. Colour is a vital aspect of Neonwall, as the ball can open doors that are the same colour as it. The lasers can only interact with elements that are the same colour and there are three available colours that need to be changed on the lasers, blocks and balls. Putting the right colour in the right place at the right time is the key to victory.
Though Neonwall can be played with monitor and gamepad, the developers have designed the experience for VR and strongly recommend using a VR head mounted display (HMD) for the best experience.
Neonwall is available now on Steam for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality. It is currently on sale with a 15% launch discount, bringing the price down to £6.11 (GBP) for the usual price of £7.19.
