Yesterday Apple revealed new details about its augmented reality (AR) software ARKit 2.0. Last year when it was fresh and new indie developer Skullfish Studios release AR puzzle adventure Lila’s Tale: Stealth to help showcase what was possible in AR. Now the team has announced that Lila’s Tale will be getting a virtual reality (VR) makeover, coming to Oculus Go and Samsung Gear VR this week.
Just like its AR cousin, Lila’s Tale is a puzzle adventure where you have to guide titular character Lila on a quest through a magical realm to find her brother. As the story unfolds you’ll find a world filled with dungeons, enemies, coins and more as you look to escape.
With a bold watercolour art style this dungeon crawler has been designed to appeal to audiences young and old alike, with the puzzles working on a dot matching system. Solving them requires they be linked together in the correct order, using either the controller or via gaze-based controls.
Lila’s Tale uses a similar mechanic to that of Pillow’s Willow VR Studios’ Spark of Light, in that players find themselves inside a cylinder design with the character running all the way around them, plus in and out of the environment for a greater feeling of depth.
Having been nominated for several awards, including selection for the Made with Unity at Unite Europe in 2017, Lila’s Tale will launch this Thursday, 7th June, 2018 for the two headsets. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Lila’s Tale and Skullfish Studios, reporting back with any further updates or announcements.
