HTC Announce New Vive Pro Starter Kit

The HTC Vive is rapidly coming up on its second birthday, as date the company refers to simply as ‘Vive Day’. HTC vive have been working at enticing new users into high-end virtual reality (VR) lately, reducing the price of the standard HTC Vive. For those who want to jump right in at the deep end, a new option will soon be available in the form of the HTC Vive Pro Starter Pack.

When the HTC Vive Pro was originally announced, it was intended to be an upgrade path for users who already owned a HTC Vive and simply wished to get more out of the technology. As the userbase for VR continues to grow, it became clear that there is demand for a direct route into the HTC Vive Pro.

Feedback received by HTC indicated that some customers were left confused, particularly those who didn’t yet own a HTC Vive, or those who had not yet upgraded to the full room-scale experience.

As a reaction to this feedback, HTC are introducing the Vive Pro Starter Kit. This bundle with contain the HTC Vive Pro head-mounted display (HMD) along with two Vive 1.0 controllers and two 1.0 base stations for a price of $1099(USD)/£1048(GBP). This offer goes live on the Vive website from 5th April, 2018.

For users who have already purchased a HTC Vive Pro, HTC are offering $100/£75 Viveport credit voucher, along with an extension of the Viveport Subscripton offer to 1 year.

The standard HTC Vive now costs $499, and with the new starter pack offer, this means high-end room scale VR is now in reach of more people. As Vive said themselves on its blog: “We pushed for an aggressive price and value package here because we want our customers to realize the savings we’ve made in material costs since Vive was introduced and get the most content available.”
