Guild of Music Supervisors Nominate GT Sport for Award

The Guild of Music Supervisors have announced their list of nominees for their eighth annual GMS awards. The awards show will present 14 awards to nominees from the motion picture, television, trailers, promos, advertising and videogame industries; and Gran Turismo Sport, the PlayStation VR favourite, is up for an award of its own.

There’s a bunch of videogames nominated at the Guild of Music Supervisors Awards this year, which takes place at The Theatre, Ace Hotel, Los Angeles on February 8th. Other videogames nominated include Call of Duty: WWII, Life is Strange: Before The Storm, Madden NFL 18, and FIFA 18.

GT Sport now often gets bundles with PlayStation VR head-mounted displays (HMDs) since the title makes such great use of virtual reality (VR). Following a price drop on the PlayStation VR HMDs, the game and the HMD units sold quite well near the end of last year.

“From music-intensive tent-pole sequels like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ and ‘Pitch Perfect 3,’ to technically complicated musicals and animated films like ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ ‘The Greatest Showman’ and ‘Coco,’ to elegantly-navigated character dramas like ‘Ladybird,’ ‘The Florida Project’ and ‘Call Me By Your Name,’ the film committee has highlighted the best music supervision in film this past year,” said Thomas Golubić, President of the Guild of Music Supervisors. “We are incredibly proud of the stellar work of our fellow music supervisors in this extraordinarily rich year in music in media. Our February 8th awards will be a festive celebration of their laudable work.”

This is the third year in a row that the Guild of Music Supervisors Awards have been held at The Theatre, Los Angeles. Anyone attending the awards will be treated to more than just the show, as there will also be live music performed by GMS Spotlight Artist Yungblud, a recording artist from North England.

The Guild of Music Supervisors also look at music in emerging media, so we can only hope that VR content will be considered more often in the future as it becomes a bigger media force.

We’ll let you know if Gran Turismo Spot win an award at the GMS Awards this year, so for all of the latest information, make sure to keep your eyes on VRFocus.
