Samsung Odyssey Windows Mixed Reality Headset Price, Spec and Release Date Revealed

Last week several images were leaked reportedly showing a Samsung Windows Mixed Reality head-mounted display (HMD). Now a Microsoft Store page has revealed those rumours to be true, detailing price, specifications and a possible release date for the headset.

The page has the Samsung Odyssey priced at $499 USD (including motion controllers), making it the most expensive out of all the Windows Mixed Reality devices from Dell, HP, Lenovo and Acer – which are priced between $399 and $449). Samsung’s headset also has a release date of 6th November 2017, putting almost a month behind the rest which become available on 17th October.

One detail revealed in the original images last month – which would partially explain the added cost – is the addition of integrated headphones on the Samsung Odyssey, the only Windows Mixed Reality HMD to do so.

It also seems that Samsung has gone that extra mile to differentiate its headset from the rest of the pack with a few tweaked specifications. So the Samsung Odyssey’s resolution is better, coming in at 1440 x 1600 per eye, rather than 1440 x 1440, from an OLED display while the others are LCD.

Additionally, the field of View (FoV) is slightly wider at 110˚, instead of 105˚, plus there are integrated dual array microphones rather than ‘built-in audio out and microphone support through 3.5mm jack’.

It’s likely that more will be revealed later today when Microsoft holds its Mixed Reality Event in San Francisco. When it does, VRFocus will let you know.
