Sony had been teasing a new announcement in the run-up to Gamescom, the content of which has now been revealed. To celebrate the launch of Gran Turismo Sport onto the console, Sony are launching a new limited edition version of the PlayStation 4 with a Gran Turismo theme.
Coloured in silver and black, the console itself has a silver top decorated with the Gran Turismo stylised ‘GT’ logo. The bottom half of the console remains black. The exclusive controller is also mostly in silver, with a black touchpad surface that also has the GT logo embossed on it.
The Gran Turismo Sport variant of the PlayStation 4 will be available to buy from 18th October, 2017, according to a tweet from the official PlayStation Europe account. Though the stock of the Gran Turismo Sport edition PlayStation 4 is known to be limited, it is yet to be confirmed how many units will be available, or what price point will be set.
Fans expressed some disappointment in the announcement, pointing out that a title such as Gran Turismo Sport, which has been specifically tuned to get more from the PlayStation 4 Pro, really should have had a limited edition PlayStation 4 Pro in its colours, with some commenters dubbing it a ‘wasted opportunity’.
Curiously, the link posted on the Tweet to the PlayStation Blog page results in a Page Not Found error, leading to speculation that perhaps the tweet was released too early. A slip up that also happened to Samsung recently.
