Online portal for 3D model and content creators, Sketchfab has long supported virtual reality (VR) with users able to view content using PC-based headsets. That’s changing today as Sketchfab has launched a new mobile app for iOS and Android, enabling users to checkout content on the go and in VR.
Alongside viewing every available scene on Sketchfab, the new app will allow user to do most of what sketchfab.com does, such as Like, share, and comment on favourite work. New collections can be started and added to, follow contributors, and creators can organise their own work to share it with friends and family, and more.
In terms of VR users will be able to utilise headsets that work with basic head-mounted displays (HMDs) like Google Cardboard, Merge VR and many more. This is separate from the dedicated Samsung Gear VR which Sketchfab launched in June 2016 which only brought a curated selection of content rather than the site’s entire library.
The Sketchfab app is free to download for either mobile platform. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Sketchfab, reporting back with the latest updates.
