The summer furore over augmented reality (VR) videogame Pokémon GO has begun to subside as the year progresses towards the colder winter months. But before the weather does begin lessen players interest in wandering outside in the cold looking for Pokémon, developer Niantic Labs Inc. has a Halloween event lined up which will see some of the titles spookiest characters pop up more frequently.
There will be increased global encounters of Drowsee , Gastly, Gengar, Golbat, Haunter, Hypno and Zubat. And as an extra Halloween bonus, Trainers will get the opportunity to earn more Pokémon candy.
“It’s been incredible watching people explore their neighbourhoods and catch wild Pokémon all summer,” said Tatsuo Nomura, senior product manager at Niantic, Inc. “We would like to trick-or-treat in our own special way by giving Trainers the chance to catch more Pokémon and earn extra Candy this Halloween.”
The event will begin this Wednesday, 26th October, running through to Tuesday, 1st November, 2016. During this time Pokémon caught will earn Trainers six Candies – twice the normal amount. In addition to that, the professor will give Trainers two Candies instead of one for every Pokémon transferred to him, and Buddy Pokémon will award four candies instead of the usual one.
“The excitement of Pokémon’s 20-year celebration continues this Halloween with the first-ever in-game Pokémon GO event,” said J.C. Smith, senior director of consumer marketing at The Pokémon Company International. “We anticipate seeing many Pokémon-themed costumes during this anniversary year, and now Trainers can add Pokémon GO to their trick-or-treat route to receive Candy and add some of the spookier Pokémon to their Pokédex.”
If you’ve not downloaded Pokémon GO it’s a fee app for Android and iOS devices to catch digital Pokémon in the real world. The title does feature in-app purchases to help players on their journey to ‘catch-em all’.
VRFocus will continue its coverage of Pokémon GO, reporting back with any further updates.
