ThirdEye Gen Showcasing AR SmartGlasses For Enterprise Use

There has been an upsurge in interest among businesses, brands and manufacturers regarding augmented reality (AR) technology. One company taking advantage of this interest is ThirdEye Gen, who have worked for some time with the US Department of Defence on AR applications and are now turning their attention to AR for the enterprise market.

ThirdEye Gen are planning to showcase its X1 SmartGlasses product at the Augmented World Expo (AWE) in California at the end of May, 2018 along with a new software platform.

The X1 SmartGlasses will be compatible with ThirdEye Gen’s custom ‘See What I See’ enterprise AR software, which allows users to experience the point-of-view of another person through audio and video, with useful information placed in their field-of-view in order to help with complex tasks.

The AR SmartGlasses paired with the software allows employees on sight to receive precise mentoring, training and instructions from a specialist remote operator, which removes the need for every employee to be a ‘jack of all trades’ and allows specialists to save time and money on costly site visits.

ThirdEye Gen say its current customers such as OneBonsai Inc and BAN3 Engineering Inc have already seen a 30% reduction in employee training time by implementing this feature.

“We’re in conversation with businesses from over a dozen verticals, including Fortune 500 companies, about our X1 Smart Glasses and remote assistance AR platform” said Nick Cherukuri, President at ThirdEye Gen. “We give organizations a straight-out-of-the-box solution and can customize the hardware and software that meets their specific needs.”

The ThirdEye Gen platform gives users hands-free user interface and what equates to a 90” HD screen at 10 feet, along with a 13 Megapixel camera and replaceable batteries so spare batteries can be charged whilst the SmartGlasses are in use.

The company will be showcasing its products at Augmented World Expo in Santa Clara, California from 30th May until 1st June, 2018. The ThirdEye Gen booth can be found at Booth 715. VRFocus will continue to bring you the latest news on new AR products and services.

ThirdEye Gen to Debut its X1 Smart Glasses at CES 2018

Augmented reality (AR) eyewear specialist ThirdEye Gen officially announced its new X1 smart glasses back in August. Today, the company has revealed the device is set to make its first public debut during CES 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada, next month.

X1 smart glasses side

With a background that spans more than 20 years of AR development expertise for the US Department of Defence (DoD), ThirdEye is now bringing its state-of-the-art X1 Smart Glasses along with its AR Software to the enterprise, education and consumer spaces.

The X1 smart glasses have a 1280x720p binocular display, GPS, 3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis compass, BlueTooth and swappable 2,400 mAh batteries that provide around 8 hours of use. As the headset has been designed to be used across a wide range of enterprise needs, from industrial centers to universities and law enforcement ThirdEye has ensured that operators can use the X1 hands free.

This is achieved via ThirdEye’s Enterprise Software which consists of three screens. Looking straight ahead gives a user a clear view of what they’re working on, while looking left brings up live video and audio with a remote expert for guidance. Looking right brings up annotated AR data by the expert to help the operator achieve their task.

ThirdEye also released its App Store where AR developers can submit their applications and make money.  Currently, over 100+ AR software developers are developing applications or forming software partnerships.

If you managed to miss the announcement earlier today, another AR company has finally revealed its headset after many years in development, Magic Leap, with the Magic Leap One Creator Edition. Next year is certainly shaping up to be an interesting one for AR headsets, and VRFocus will continue to keep you updated.

ThirdEye Gen Launches AR SmartGlasses

There has been a recent rise in the use of augmented reality (AR) smartglasses for use in business environments such as manufacturing, quality control and warehousing. Google have begun to tap this market with the re-launch of Google Glass, as have Vuzix with the M300 smart glasses system. US company ThirdEye Gen is also hoping to enter this area with the launch of the X1 Smartglasses.

ThirdEye Gen developed the product using experience gained when working with the US Department of Defence on AR hardware and software. The X1 smartglasses system has a 1280x720p binocular display and the developers say its compact form factor allows the smartglasses to be comfortably worn while working.

The X1 smartglasses app uses a hands-free control system which allows users to control the software using the motion of the head, instead of needing a separate controller, or a smartphone or tablet. The software was developed in-house by ThirdEye, and has a Cloud-based component allows users to easily share with colleagues for collaboration or save for later reference.

The company have developed to software for the X1 Smartglasses to be modular, to allow for specific customisation depending upon the client. For example, for law enforcement applications real-time image recognition can be enabled; for Universites, livestreaming of lectures along with AR notes from the professor. ThirdEye are also working on custom educational content for integration with the X1 smartglasses, such as 3D AR renderings of the course curriculum, or interactive tours of the campus.

ThidEye are planning to have a booth at the AR section of CES 2018, which is due to take place on 9th-12th January, 2018.
