Wonderglade Review: Dated Daydream Minigames Land On Quest

There was a time — and a platform — in which Wonderglade proved a likable little collection of minigames, but that time has long since passed.

Arriving today on Oculus Quest, Wonderglade is a port of Resolution Games’ first title for the long-forgotten Google Daydream platform. On that three degrees of freedom (3DOF) headset, the studio gradually rolled out a handful of carnival-themed minigames like golf and putting out cardboard fires with a hose. Now the full set arrives with updated 6DOF controls but, like other 3DOF ports such as Fail Factory, Wonderglade finds itself stuck in the past.

Clearly this isn’t a title designed for the most demanding of VR enthusiasts but instead perhaps their children. And Wonderglade’s six minigames may offer a few hours of mindless distraction for younger children (which, we’d note, we wouldn’t recommend you let experience VR anyway). Tellingly, even your virtual hands are alarmingly small in this game.

Half of the experiences do carry some simple thrills. Tip N Tilt Racing has you rotating a controller to race ballooned animals around farm-themed levels as quickly as possible and Tinder Town’s wave-based fire extinguishing has its charms. Tiny Tee Golf doesn’t offer anything like the depth of, say, Pro Putt Golf, but it’s probably the game’s best pass-and-play experience for families to enjoy.

Wonderglade Review – Comfort

Wonderglade simply has you standing in place for each of its six minigames. It’s basically sickness-free.

Even then, though, any momentary fun is quickly forgotten. Less successful are the other half of games that either don’t have much substance to them or don’t translate to 6DOF VR very well. Bistro Basher simply requires you to waggle a controller over food items as quickly as possible to smash them, while Hamster Hoops’ wonky throwing mechanics make it tough to score baskets. Magic Mayhem has you tapping projectiles mid-air with the end of a staff which… is about as fun as that sounds.

As you play you can earn tickets for new cosmetic items, and some of the games do have small ‘campaigns’ to see through, but you’ll have seen all Wonderglade has to offer over the course of about 30 minutes. Also (and I realise this is kicking something when it’s down) I really can’t stand the kid that leads you through the tutorial. Stop shouting at me, please.

Fail Factory offers a similar level of time-killing minigame chaos but its follow-up, Sports Scramble, is much better and designed specifically for Quest.

Wonderglade Review Final Impressions

With Daydream dead and Oculus Go winding down, I can understand why Resolution Games wants to get its existing library of content onto Oculus Quest. But the fact is some of its once-novel concepts were best left to memory, and Wonderglade is very much one of those games. This is a 50/50 set of harmless or boring experiences that don’t really have any place on a 6DOF platform and, whatever the target audience you’re buying for, you could do better.

Carnival-Themed Mini-Game Collection, Wonderglade Coming to Oculus Quest Next Week

Wonderglade

It’s a double Resolution Games announcement bonanza today. After Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs the studio has also revealed one of its earliest titles Wonderglade is coming back, arriving on Oculus Quest in a few days.

Originally released in 2016 for Google Daydream before being ported to Gear VR and the Oculus Go the following year. Now that all those headsets are either discontinued or about to be, Wonderglade will soon feature 6DoF support as it heads to Oculus Quest.

Wonderglade features six mini-games where players can putt, tilt, spray and spin their way through the challenges, earning tickets to redeem at the Wonder Wheel.

“Wonderglade was originally developed for mobile VR,” explained Gustav Stenmark, producer at Resolution Games in a statement. “So taking it to the Quest headset is really exciting. The wireless aspect of the Quest lends itself so well to the game’s pass-and-play mode, where several people can compete against each other’s high scores. Wonderglade represents a genre that is underrepresented on the Quest, so it will definitely add value to players looking for a fun and whimsical adventure that offers diversity of gameplay throughout the six mini-games within the game itself.”

Wonderglade

Wonderglade is a title that is dear to our hearts at Resolution Games,” said Tommy Palm, the studio’s CEO. “It’s a great testament to how a game can evolve to maintain staying power over the course of several years. We’re thrilled that Quest players will be able to enjoy the entire mini-game collection of Wonderglade, while having a title they can share with the whole family.”

Oculus Quest owners will be able to purchase Wonderglade from 9th July 2020, retailing for $14.99 USD on the Oculus Store. For further updates on all of Resolution Games’ VR projects, keep reading VRFocus.

Wonderglade Is Coming To Oculus Quest Next Week

Another of Resolution Games’ older mobile VR titles is making its way to Oculus Quest next week. This time it’s Wonderglade.

You may remember Wonderglade as a Google Daydream-exclusive carnival app (that eventually came to Gear VR/Oculus Go too). It’s essentially a series of VR minigames themed around a visit to a carnival. It released on Daydream for free and added more games and experiences over time, all of which come together on Quest as one premium package.

Games include the usual suspects like nine holes of minigolf and a sort of first-person shooter in which you extinguish fires with a hose. Then there are decidedly less realistic games, like a spell-casting challenge and games of basketball starring, uh, space hamsters. Just go with it, okay?

Earning points will let you unlock new items using a Wonder Wheel. Don’t expect Wonderglade to be your next hardcore VR obsession, then, but it was definitely an entertaining family-friendly VR game when it originally released for Daydream all the way back in 2016. You should be able to wishlist the title on the Oculus Store from here.

This marks the fourth game from Resolution to hit Quest; will we see the pirate-themed app, Narrows, reach the platform too?

Wonderglade hits Quest on July 9 for $14.99. It’s far from all that Resolution has in the works right now; the developer is also making the Overcooked-style Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale, which is also coming to Quest, and an upcoming multiplayer shooter named Blaston, which we debuted gameplay for at last month’s VR Showcase. Last week we also reported that the team had hired formed id Software founder Tom Hall to work on unannounced projects.

Resolution Games Brings Wonderglade and Bait! To Viveport

China has become a market of great interest to virtual reality (VR) content developers and hardware manufacturers, as it is a fast-growing market that is embracing new technology. To cater to this developing market, Resolution Games have released two of its leading titles on Viveport, making them available to customers in China.

The two titles are virtual fishing simulator Bait! And carnival-themed mini-game collection Wonderglade, both of which are now available on Viveport, making them available for HTC Vive Focus users.

HTC Vive Focus headset

Bait! Is probably the best-known title from Resolution Games, first launched on the Samsung Gear VR and racking up over 2 million downloads. The title features five different fishing lakes, which users can explore to find and collect different fish species, including the elusive rare fish as part of a story campaign to save an ailing aquarium.

Wonderglade is a mini-game collection which takes users to a magical theme park where players are challenged to beat various VR incarnations of traditional carnival games, including mini-golf, tiny basketball, a water-gun game and several others, all of which have an eccentric theming and wacky characters for added entertainment.

“Our games have received a warm welcome by VR users around the world who enjoy relaxing by our virtual lakes on Bait! or laughing their way through Wonderglade’s carnival-themed mini-games. We’re excited for users in China to finally get to play them with all the Viveport supported devices,” said Tommy Palm, co-founder and CEO of Resolution Games. “The games will be available with full six-degrees-of-freedom head movement on supported devices and players will be able to really lean in and inspect the detail, while also feeling much more immersed in the experience.”

Bait! Will cost ¥ 27 (RMB) while Wonderglade is priced at ¥ 13. Both titles can be downloaded from on any device supported by Viveport.

Mini-Game Collection Wonderglade Heads to Samsung Gear VR

After mini-game collection Wonderglade proved a success on the Google Daydream platform, developers Resolution Games have turned its attention to the Samsung Gear VR to deliver fast-paced mini-gaming action to that platform as well.

Wonderglade was launched on Google Daydream last year, where it was very successful, consistently maintaining a high star rating from users. The title is a collection of mini-games themed around a carnival. The Samsung Gear VR version will feature Gear VR controller support and all six mini-games and the Wonder Wheel experience.

The available mini-games are as follows:

  • Hamster Hoops: Play some galactically-themed Basketball with ‘space hamsters’.

  • Tip N Tilt Racing: Get the ball to the goal before time runs out by controlling the tilt-board maze.

  • Tiny Tee Golf: A nine-hole mini-golf course

  • Bistro Basher: Smash a fine restaurant to bits

  • Tinder Town: Defend the cardboard town from fires

  • Magic Mayhem: Shoot ice crystals out of the sky with magic

  • Wonder Wheel: Use tickets earned in other games to unlock items

“Mobile VR is a fantastic way to reach new audiences and we’ve been firmly committed to these platforms, making experiences on mobile headsets that everyone can enjoy,” said Tommy Palm, co-founder and CEO of Resolution Games. “Wonderglade has seen an incredibly warm reception by gamers looking for a fun, varied experience in a virtual fantasy theme park. We’re excited to be bringing these experiences to the millions of Gear VR users.”

Wonderglade is now available for free download from the Oculus Store for Samsung Gear VR. The trailer is available to view below.

VRFocus will bring you further news on Wonderglade as it becomes available.

Wonderglade Gets French Restaurant-Destroying Game In New Update

Wonderglade Gets French Restaurant-Destroying Game In New Update

Been a while since you’ve visited the colorful world of Resolution Games’ Wonderglade? You might want to take another look today; it’s getting a new update that brings in a rather unusual new mini-game.

That mini-game is Bistro Basher, which sees players visit a French restaurant and then proceed to smash all of the produce brought to their table into pieces using the Daydream controller. The game usually has a carnival theme to its experiences but this one’s a bit more on the side of lunacy.

Wonderglade also adds three new tracks to the Tip N Tilt Racing minigame with this update as well as nine new holes for Tiny Tee Golf. You can pick them up as content packs from inside the game itself either separately for $2.99 or as a bundle for $3.99. Wonderglade itself is free so you can do a bit of try before you buy. You can also now play the game in Korean, Japanese, and Chinese, should you so desire.

The title now has a total of six attractions. Resolution labels it as Daydream’s highest-rated title and, according to the Google Play page, it’s seen between 50,000 – 100,000 downloads thus far.

Resolution Games also recently launched its other mobile VR title, Bait! on Daydream as a premium product.

Google Daydream Title Wonderglade Gets Big Update

Developer Resolution Games has announced that it is bringing a major content update to Google Daydream title Wonderglade.

The update will include a new mini-game called Bistro Basher, which involves visiting an upscale French restaurant and then destroying everything that is brought to the table. This will bring the total of min-games available to six, that all revolve around a carnival theme.

The update also adds content to existing mini-games, such as three new tracks added to Tip and Tilt Racing and nine new holes for Tiny Tee Golf. The new mini-game Hamster Hoops was added in a fairly recent update. In addition, Wonderglade has been localised for Korea, Japan and China.

Wonderglade is available for free download from the Google Play store. The new updates are all available as content packs from within the game either individually for $2.99 (USD) each, or as a bundle for $3.99 (USD).

“Few things in this world are exquisite as fine dining and French cuisine – but we think smashing all of that fancy fare can prove even more exciting than eating it,” said Tommy Palm, CEO and co-founder of Resolution Games. “With Wonderglade’s latest update, you can enjoy a dinnertime tantrum without anyone expecting you to pay the bill afterwards.”

“If there’s one thing our players have been asking for, it’s more content,” added Palm. “With today’s update, we’ve doubled the amount of fun you can have in two of our mini-games, and we’ve created a whole new experience for players with Bistro Basher.”

‘Wonderglade’ On Google Daydream Gets Local Multiplayer Mode And New Mini-Game

‘Wonderglade’ On Google Daydream Gets Local Multiplayer Mode And New Mini-Game

Carnival-themed apps and experiences are becoming something of a sub-genre in the VR market these days. Between Pierhead Arcade, Carnival Games, and now Wonderglade, there’s a bit of something out there for carnival goers on most every VR device available.

Wonderglade, the latest VR outing from Resolution Games, the creators of Bait! on Gear VR, has debuted a charming and addictive collection of carnival-style mini-games. The core experience that launched with the Google Daydream platform included four min-games: Tinder Town, Magic Mayhem, Tip N Tilt Racing, and Tiny Tee Golf. Today, Resolution is announcing a fifth mini-game — Hamster Hoops — and a brand new local multiplayer mode.

The new mini-game lets you shoot baskets in space while you’re surrounded by adorable hamsters. Make more hoops to get more tickets and stay in the game longer. It’s simple, but the physics and visual feedback should be enough to keep you coming back for more. This update will also include new vanity and customization items for purchase via microtransactions.

“We’re excited to see Wonderglade become a breakout success with a 4.7 rating in the from the Google Play Store for free.

Resolution Games Launches Update for Daydream View Title Wonderglade

When Google first announced the Daydream View headset at its Google I/O conference in May one of the earliest virtual reality (VR0 titles confirmed for the headset was Wonderglade by Resolution Games. When Daydream View launched in November Wonderglade was a day one title for the headset, and today the studio releases a new update for the experience.

Wonderglade is a carnival-themed mini-game collection that previously featured four challenges. The update today now adds a fifth game and several other additions. Alongside Wonderglade’s initial attractions – Tinder Town, Magic Mayhem, Tip N Tilt Racing and Tiny Tee Golf – users can now play a new mini-game called Hamster Hoops. Here players become an interstellar basketball champion by shooting hoops in space surrounded by cute hamsters. The more high-value hoops a player hits the higher their score and more tickets they will earn.

For the festive season Resolution Games has enabled a ‘pass and play’ feature, where users can play their favourite mini-games with up to six friends for a local competition. There are new items to purchase including a royal crown for avatars, an alien gun hose or guitar hose for Tinder Town, a cookie wand or fly swatter for Magic Mayhem, new characters for Tip N Tilt and more. Wonderglade has also been localized to include German, UK English, Latin American Spanish and Canadian French.

“We’re excited to see Wonderglade become a breakout success with a 4.7 rating in the Google Play Store. We’re also getting some great feedback and comments from users – much of which drove these new updates,” said Tommy Palm, CEO and co-founder of Resolution Games. “And, just in time for the holidays players can now engage with their families and friends in a whole new way with the added pass and play tournament mode. It’s truly the perfect way to introduce those who haven’t experienced VR to the platform.”
