Horror Mystery ‘A Chair in a Room: Greenwater’ to Arrive on PSVR Later This Month

A Chair in a Room first came to Google Cardboard and Oculus Rift DK1 as a free demo back in 2014. Later arriving on Steam as a full game for HTC Vive and then Oculus Rift, we always wondered when the highly rated horror mystery game would make it over to PSVR. Now, developers Wolf & Wood have revealed that PSVR users won’t be waiting for long.

Announced today in a PS blog post, A Chair in a Room: Greenwater is slated to launch on PSVR April 23rd.

Set in America’s Deep South, A Chair in a Room: Greenwater puts players in the shoes of patient No. 6079, taking you through a host of forgotten memories so you have to piece together in order to figure out why you’ve suddenly awoken in the deceptively sinister Greenwater Institute.

PSVR users will be able to use either DualShock 4 controllers or PS Move motion controllers so you can examine the world’s objects, some of which hold important clues as to what the Greenwater Institute actually is.

A Chair in a Room: Greenwater is currently rated ‘Very Positive’ on Steam with an 87% positive aggregate rating; it holds a respectable [4.3/5] stars on the Oculus Store.

Trailer and Release Date for The Exorcist: Legion VR – Chapter 4 Revealed

When it comes to iconic horror film franchises various ones spring to mind. The likes of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Hellraiser, Saw, Scream have all continued to have a devoted following over the years. Saw is, of course, still ongoing. Hellraiser: Judgment, the tenth instalment in that franchise came out earlier this year and a Halloween reboot is on the way as well. To date however there’ve been little in the way of official virtual reality (VR) tie-ins within any of these series with the exception of Saw with the Jigsaw VR Experience.

The Exorcist: Legion VR - Chapter 4 SamaritanOne franchise you might not have realised was getting attention was The Exorcist. Whilst most tend to forget the sequels to the original film classic – some through accident, some through choice – a multi-part story set in the world originally created by William Peter Blatty has been in development for some time now. The Exorcist: Legion VR is a dedicated VR videogame title with the most recent part, Chapter 3 – entitled Skin Deep, coming out at the end of last year.  The fourth of these 20-25 minute chapters, Chapter 4 – Samaritan, now has a trailer as well as a release date.

Developers Fun Train and Wolf & Wood are this time taking the action to the Caribbean and the Republic of Haiti. Unfortunately, things there aren’t so good. Not only is there a disease the whole island has become one giant failed quarantine zone. With a plague ravaging the country, no one seems to know what’s going on and since the aid workers trying to help have also been dying efforts to provide relief have ground to a standstill. What is the source of this mysterious outbreak? You take on the role of a character sent in to find out the answer.

The Exorcist: Legion VR - Chapter 4 Samaritan“Delve deep into the heart of the supernatural as you learn the trade of demonic exorcism and uncover secrets leading you towards a final confrontation with your darkest, most hidden fears. The Exorcist: Legion VR is part investigation, part exorcism… and all horror. Is your willpower strong enough?”

Chapter 4 will be launched on both the Steam and Oculus Stores later this week, on Thursday, April 26th at 9AM (PST).  You can see the trailer below. No date is yet given for PlayStation VR, although it is confirmed for the console-based headset.  VRFocus will bring you more news, including further information about the climactic part, Chapter 5 – The Tomb as it becomes available.

A Chair In A Room Dev Wolf & Wood Returns With VR Thriller The Harbinger Trial

A Chair In A Room Dev Wolf & Wood Returns With VR Thriller The Harbinger Trial

A Chair in A Room: Greenwater [Review: 8/10] is arguably one of the definitive VR horror games available today, even considering the release of games like Resident Evil 7 [Review: 9/10]. It was a darkly disturbing psychological piece that aimed for much more sophisticated scares than your average monster closet. For those brave enough to tackle it, we have good news; the developer has more coming.

Wolf & Wood, the UK-based studio behind the game today released the first installment of The Harbinger Trial, an episodic psychological thriller series for the Gear VR. The series casts players as Dr. Albert Milgram, a respected psychologist that relives the memories of his patients as part of an experimental trial. Each episode tells the story of one of these patients, viewed through Milgram’s eyes.

You can take a look at the first gameplay for the title below.

Every patient has critical evidence to provide in a criminal investigation, but is so psychologically disturbed that they won’t speak out. By investigating their minds, you can extract that information without them having to testify.

Gear VR isn’t where many would have expected Wolf & Wood to work next after releasing a full room scale game on the HTC Vive. Speaking to UploadVR, studio director Ryan Bousfield explained that the move, “is really because I’ve got a ton of ideas for short horror stories and [Gear VR] seemed like a good place to put something out that we could build upon incrementally. I already have the full story arch written for Dr. Milgram (the central character in the hospital) but the patients stories and the scenarios they introduce to Milgram are still being written so I can keep the ideas fresh and surprising for each new episode.”

The first episode — or Case, as they’re called — is titled The Missing Woodland Girl, and it’s available for free. More episodes will be available to purchase later this year.
