Wolf & Wood Release Teaser Trailer for Exorcist: Legion VR – Chapter 3

Yesterday VRFocus reported on British indie developer Wolf & Wood revealing details about the next installment of its horror series The Exorcist: Legion VR – Chapter 3: Skin Deep. Today, VRFocus has the first teaser trailer for the upcoming experience.

As with any teaser trailer the studio only gives a brief glimpse at what’s to come, showing no gameplay aspects, instead it’s just an eerie camera pan across a dark, partially moon-lit room. The scene begins with a strange looking doll then as the camera moves you begin to see the doll is located inside a doll’s house, all the while a woman’s crying can be heard. The trailer ends with a baby’s crib in the background, silhouetted against an old fashioned window pane.

For those that read yesterday’s article you’ll instantly know what this is all about. As a quick refresher, The Exorcist: Legion VR – Chapter 3: Skin Deep’s storyline involves a wave of infant deaths that have struck the town and a number of distraught parents have posted details online, claiming to have heard the sound of an old woman calming the cries of their babies.

This old woman is in fact a demon called Abyzou, who has been blamed for infant mortality throughout the history of civilisation. Her hunger for the innocent and unwanted is insatiable. In this case, a newborn baby. As a detective you’re assigned the case, using the skills and knowledge learnt in the previous chapters to solve this next mysterious case.

Wolf & Wood anticipate The Exorcist: Legion VR – Chapter 3: Skin Deep will be released for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive via Steam before the end of the year. The previous two chapters can be purchased in a bundle for £7.18. There’s no price yet for chapter 3. In total the studio will be releasing five chapters.

A PlayStation VR version is also in the works, with chapters one and two due to arrive soon. When VRFocus has those details, we’ll let you know.

Chapter 3 of The Exorcist: Legion VR Arriving by Year End

After a slight delay developer Wolf & Wood launched its episodic horror series The Exorcist: Legion VR onto Oculus Rift and HTC Vive last month. Now the studio has confirmed that the next installment, Chapter 3 ‘Skin Deep’ will be arriving by the end of the year for the PC-based headsets. Additionally, the PlayStation VR version of Chapters 1 & 2 are also coming soon.

The Exorcist: Legion VR has been based on the events of The Exorcist III, with players able to experience a stand-alone story untold in the movies across five chapters. Chapter 3 ‘Skin Deep’ centres on: “A wave of infant mortality has struck and a number of distraught parents have posted online, claiming to have heard the sound of an old woman calming the cries of their babies. A copy of one such recording landed on your desk and it’s recent. Can you calm the cries before it is too late?”

Wolf & Wood explain that: “in Chapter 3 players will meet Abyzou, the infertile devil who has been blamed for infant mortality throughout the history of civilization. Many cultures have encountered her and she has been given many names, from Lilith in Hebrew to Medusa in Greek. Her hunger for the innocent and unwanted is insatiable. In this case, a newborn baby.”

The Exorcist: Legion VR – Chapter 3 ‘Skin Deep’ will become available through Steam in the next few weeks for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. There’s been no confirmation on price, but with Chapter 2: Idle Hands retailing for £3.99 expect the price to be similar. The first two chapters can be purchased now for a special bundle price of £7.18, saving 10 percent off the regular cost.

As for the PlayStation VR version, Wolf & Wood issued the following statement: “Currently in the final rounds of VR consultation with Sony, and Chapters 1 & 2 will be concurrently launching soon.” When those launch date details arrive, VRFocus will let you know.

The Exorcist: Legion VR Now Launching on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive Next Week

Early in October VRFocus reported on developer Wolf & Wood announcing that its multi-chapter horror experience The Exorcist: Legion VR would see the first two chapters launch prior to Halloween. That didn’t occur with the studio saying on Steam: “To ensure that both chapters are of the highest quality when released, we need to push them both back just a little bit.” Today, Wolf & Wood – and publisher Funtrain – have announced a new simultaneous release date for chapter 1 and 2, 22nd November, 2017.

The Exorcist: Legion VR has been based on the events of The Exorcist III, with players able to experience a stand-alone story untold in the movies across five chapters. The first two are now titled: Chapter 1: First Rites and Chapter 2: Idle Hands. The title is a detective experience of sorts, in chapter one players have to investigate the grisly murder of a priest, whilst learning the dangerous art of exorcism.

Each episode will then feature a different demonic entity, and arm players with a different weapon to stop it. In Chapter 2: Idle Hands players will be introduced to an ex-schoolteacher who seems to have lost her mind and is set upon by some unseen force.

While both chapters will be available on the same day, Chapter 1: First Rites will launch with a 20 percent discount, dropping the price from $4.99 down to $3.99. Chapter 2: Idle Hands will be the standard price of $4.99. Chapters 3 – 5 will then be released in turn shorty after – which previously was one a month – although the studio hasn’t confirmed any dates just yet.

“This franchise deserves to be done right and the only way to have a truly definitive experience for such a story is in virtual reality,” said Douglas Nabors, CEO of Fun Train in a statement. “Playing a non-VR horror game is one thing when you’re safely behind a monitor. But, when you’re living the horror up close and personal, The Exorcist: Legion VR will resonate with you for years to come.”

The 22nd November release will just be for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive via Steam and Oculus Store to begin with, with Viveport and PlayStation VR versions also planned.

As further details are released, VRFocus will keep you updated.

Halloween Scares Await in The Exorcist: Legion VR

It’s now October and before anybody thinks about planning for Christmas there’s Halloween at the end of the month. Naturally for this time of year developers get in on the festivities by releasing some scary videogames and virtual reality (VR) studios are no different, with A Chair in a Room: Greenwater creator Wolf & Wood Interactive due to release the first couple of chapters for The Exorcist: Legion VR.

Based around the infamous film of the same name created by horror maestro William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist: Legion VR  is part investigation, part exorcism as players learn learn the dangerous art of exorcising demons from their hosts.

Set over five chapters – two of which will launch simultaneously this month – each exorcism is based on a real case, with secrets to unlock, several trademark exorcism tools to find and use as well as hidden artifacts that can help your quest.

Wolf & Wood Interactive state that although each chapter will differ slightly on gameplay time on average they should take around 20-25 minutes to complete. There won’t be long to wait for the following chapters either, with the third arriving in November, the fourth in December and the fifth and final one in January 2018.

The Exorcist: Legion VR will support Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Wolf & Wood Interactive, reporting back with the latest updates.
