The Official Launch Trailer for Jupiter & Mars on PlayStation VR has Arrived

There barely seems to be a month that goes by without PlayStation VR having some decent videogame launches to choose from. April is no exception with Falcon Age now available and Ghost Giant set to arrive on PlayStation Store tomorrow. If those weren’t enough then there’s always Jupiter & Mars next week, which has just had the official launch trailer make a splash.

With the trailer looking like a mix between Ecco the Dolphin and Rez Infinite, the rather gorgeous looking Jupiter & Mars is a virtual reality (VR) experience with morals. An underwater puzzle adventure, you play two bottlenose dolphins named Jupiter and Mars who have been tasked by an ancient and powerful race of whales called the Elders to help restore life back to the oceans.

Set in a future where mankind has been wiped out, all that’s left is humanity’s mechanical creations littering the ocean world. The dolphins need to shut down a global network of semi-functioning bases and machines that are disrupting sea life, by exploring five distinct biomes, from tropical islands to sunken underwater cities.

To succeed you’ll need to harness both of their unique abilities to solve the puzzles and challenges the ocean has to offer. Jupiter happens to have enhanced echolocation powers to see in the darkest depths and even through solid objects, while Mars is the muscle, with a ram ability that’s handy for busting open walls or looking for secrets in oyster shells.

Developer Tigerton will be releasing Jupiter & Mars next Monday, 22nd April which just so happens to be Earth Day. If you’ve not heard of it before, Earth Day is an annual movement first started in 1970 where events are held worldwide to support environmental protection. It’s also why Tigertron developed Jupiter & Mars in partnership with ocean organizations SeaLegacy and The Ocean Foundation, who have helpfully provided the videogame with exclusive content.

Gorgeous Neon Seascape Jupiter & Mars Surfaces This Spring

It’s been a while since VRFocus last heard new details regarding Tigertron’s PlayStation VR exclusive, Jupiter & Mars,  with the title appearing at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2018 as well as a couple of other events in the US and Europe. This weekend the studio released a brand new story trailer for the title, which also unveiled a launch window, Spring 2019.

Jupiter & Mars

Jupiter & Mars is sort of like a dolphins eye view of the world after the human race has managed to wipe itself out because of climate change, by flooding the entire planet. You play as Jupiter, one half of a pair of dolphins – the other being Mars –  who happens to have enhanced echolocation powers that let her see through murky waters, beyond solid objects, and into the heart of the deepest oceans.

The duo encounters the Elders, an ancient and powerful race of whales, who ask them to help save the oceans from the last mankind’s mechanical legacy by shutting down a global network of semi-functioning bases and machines that are disrupting sea life. To achieve this they must explore five distinct biomes, from tropical islands to sunken underwater cities. Both Jupiter and Mars offer their own unique abilities to help solve the puzzles that lay ahead. While Jupiter has echolocation, Mars has a Ram ability, to get out of tight spots, to bust open a wall, or to pop that oyster shell open and discover hidden secrets throughout the videogame.

Jupiter & Mars aims to blend immersive storytelling and interactive entertainment with information regarding how the human race is treating the oceans, which might be vast expanses of water but at the same time are fragile eco-systems that can be irreversibly damaged by humanity if nothing changes.

Jupiter & Mars puts players in the role of dolphins Jupiter and her companion, Mars, as they explore five distinct “biomes,” such as tropical islands and sunken underwater cities. Set on a future Earth where mankind has disappeared, they must enlist the help of a group of ancient whales called The Elders to confront and solve the after-effects of man’s industrial legacy.

As you’ll see from the new screenshots and gameplay trailer Tigertron has created a vast and vivid world, rich not only in marine life but also in the remnants of mankind.

In addition to the new details, Tigertron has announced a collaboration with The Ocean Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based environmental organisation, to support the group’s marine conservation initiatives by including unlockable content in Jupiter & Mars.

“We hope that by showcasing the efforts of organizations like The Ocean Foundation that we can enrich Jupiter & Mars with fact-based scientific content that expands upon the challenges our characters face, such as ocean acidification, the melting of polar icecaps, and coral reef bleaching,” said James Mielke, the creative director for Tigertron in a statement. “Video games are such a unique, interactive medium, we felt this would be the perfect way to introduce groups like The Ocean Foundation to a whole new audience of gamers active and engaged about the world they live in.”

Mark J. Spalding, the president of The Ocean Foundation, added: “We at The Ocean Foundation are excited to join Tigertron in this unique partnership to raise awareness of the realities facing our global ocean. We hope that as players explore the digital underwater world of Jupiter & Mars, they will be inspired to protect life on our blue planet.”

Jupiter & Mars made its first playable debut in Kyoto, Japan this past weekend during the BitSummit Vol.6 event. The videogame is scheduled to appear this summer for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. For any further updates keep reading VRFocus.

Serene Underwater Adventure Jupiter & Mars Revealed for PlayStation VR

While not expected to be as full of announcements as Paris Games Week (PGW) or the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) always saves a couple of choice reveals for the annual PlayStation Experience event and 2017 has been no different. Today has seen four titles make an appearance during the SIE livestream, the last being and underwater adventure called Jupiter & Mars.

Created by New York City-based indie studio Tigertron, Jupiter & Mars is an experience set in a near-future Earth that displays one possible outcome originating from the excesses and abuses humans inflict on the planet today. You play as Jupiter, a dolphin with enhanced echolocation powers, alongside her partner Mars, to solve puzzles, encounter magnificent creatures known as the Elders, and travel around the world to disable the remnants of manmade machinery disrupting marine live everywhere.

As you do so you’ll watch the world return to life as you free sea creatures, unlock special power-ups, and return coral reefs to life.

The videogame is a passion project for Tigertron’s James Mielke, with the developer explaining on the PlayStation Blog: “I’m here today is to lift the lid off my labor of love project, called Jupiter & Mars, a game that my former mentor from Q Entertainment, Tetsuya Mizuguchi, once told me “this is the game you were born to make.”

“Although it can be played on all PS4 consoles, Jupiter & Mars was designed for PlayStation VR,” Mielke goes on to say. “You don’t have to go to an alien planet to feel like you’ve visited one. All you need to do is go underwater, which is an entirely different world, with unique demands and creatures and ways of interacting.”

Jupiter & Mars is scheduled for release in Q2, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. Today also saw Wipeout VR, The Last Guardian VR Experiencand Firewall Zero Hour announced for PlayStation VR.

As further details on Jupiter & Mars is released, VRFocus will keep you updated.
