Discover a Lost World as VIRGO’s Debut VR Experience Water Planet Hits Steam

Musician-turned-videogame developer, VIRGO, in collaboration with The Revera Corporation has today released Water Planet, a virtual reality (VR) experience featuring music from the E.P. of the same name.

Water Planet is a single-player first-person adventure set on a fantastical blue planet with all sorts of secrets hidden above and below the waves. Players are tasked with finding resources for their spaceship, enabling them to carry on an interstellar journey. Whilst on this mysterious planet they’ll find the remnants of a lost civilisation, with hidden temples and expansive levels to explore.

On this journey players will be accompanied by the ship’s onboard A.I. Gemini, who’ll help them look for crystal shards. Along the way they also encounter a lone cybernetic jellyfish named Aqua.

VIRGO’s audio-inspired VR experience, Water Planet is now available to download on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift via Steam priced at $19.99 USD/£14.99 GBP. With the purchase players will also receive a free copy of VIRGO’s Water Planet E.P., which inspired the title’s development.

VIRGO’s Musical VR Experience Water Planet Arrives in October

First announced back in January, The Revera Corporation and musician VIRGO have been working on an interactive virtual reality (VR) experience called Water Planet. Originally scheduled for a summer release, the title has now been confirm for an October launch on Steam for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Set on a beautiful and mysterious distant blue world Water Planet is an immersive first-person VR exploration title, which started life as a visual accompaniment to VIRGO’s live music performances. Players take on the role of an interstellar traveller gathering resources to fuel an interplanetary expedition. Amid endless oceans and mountains that cut through dense fog, they’ll find hidden temples and monuments just waiting to be discovered, all whilst listening to an atmospheric and evolving score written and performed by VIRGO.

Players must uncover the planet’s many mysteries as the on-board A.I., Gemini, guides them through vast underwater worlds and sunken ruins, echoing the atmospheric synths, soothing basslines and hypnotic vocals of VIRGO’s Water Planet E.P.

Music and VR Flow Together in Water Planet

A virtual reality (VR) title being developed by music label and videogames publisher The Revera Corporation have released an online video diary on the development of upcoming title Water Planet, hosted by musician and lead developer VIRGO.

Water Planet is a VR adventure title set on an alien world covered in deep, mysterious seas. The player takes the role of an explorer who needs to search the ocean depths to find resources to fuel their spaceship. Players will need to solve puzzles and navigate their way through mysterious sunken ruins of ancient civilisations.

The developer diary video speaks of VIRGO’s inspirations for the audio design of Water Planet and its accompanying soundtrack. The latest developer diary in the second to be created about Water Planet, and a third is due to arrive before the title is officially launched. Water Planet is VIRGO’s first VR title, and features music from her personally devised ‘Ocean Tech’ style, which has been described as a mix of house, trance and future beats with crystalline vocals with sci-fi elements.

The new developer diary is available to view below. A firm release date has yet to be revealed, but is estimated for later Summer 2017. Further information and updates can be found on the Steam page. So far, the Water Planet Steam page only mentioned the planned HTC Vive version, no plans have been confirmed for any other platforms.

Experience the Music of VIRGO in VR This Summer with Water Planet

The music industry embraced virtual reality (VR) technology a couple of years ago, with artists producing 360-degree videos or fully immersive VR pieces. Today, The Revera Corporation – a Miami-based music label and game publisher – has announced its in-house artist VIRGO will be releasing a VR video game this summer called Water Planet.

Designed as a first-person exploration game, the experience is set on a mysterious blue planet. Cast in the role of an interstellar traveller, players must gather resources from the planet to continue their mission, whilst uncovering the secrets of this world. Whilst venturing deep into endless oceans or high atop mountains, discovering hidden temples and monuments, players will will be able to listen to the atmospheric synths, basslines, and dreamy vocals of VIRGO’s Water Planet E.P.

“Water Planet is a powerful example of the environment we’re creating for our artists. We want to enable them to cross the sound barrier into the visual world and tell their stories in the most immersive medium we know: Virtual Reality,” said Jason Cole, Project Director, The Revera Corporation.

The experience started life as a visual accompaniment to VIRGO’s live performances, which mix house, trance and future beats music genres. Revera Corp’s debut VR experience then completed  a successful Steam Greenlight campaign, becoming popular with the Steam community.
