Vuzix Announces Partnership With WakingApp

Most weeks have some degree of news from Vuzix. As we’ve mentioned previously on our coverage, the smart glasses company is perhaps the most prolific user of press releases in he industry. However this particular week in October has been something of a Vuzix-fest of news, as this will make the third announcement from the team in a week – and they’re all about very different things.
Vuzix - LogoToday’s news is one of partnerships, however. With the company, founded back in 1997, revealing that they have entered into a multi-year strategic partnership with the team from WakingApp. They will be supporting Vuzix’s augmented reality (AR) smart glasses through their ENTiTi AR Creator content creation platform. Currently at version 3.0, ENTiTi AR Creator “allows for rapid content creation, simple integration with existing apps, on-the-fly content updates, support multiple AR solutions including SLAM AR, QR tracking or Image Target AR using JavaScript for its advanced scripting capabilities”.

Vuzix in turn will be distributing up to 100,000 limited time licencees for ENTiTi to its various customers over the next two years. With model environments being released as demos for both its M300 and Blade Smart Glasses. The move is designed, the company says, to promote app creation, as Paul Travers, Vuzix President and Chief Executive Officer, explained.

“Our partnership with WakingApp will introduce a new community of developers to the Vuzix Blade and Vuzix M300 Smart Glasses opening the door for the creation of new applications and experiences for enterprise and consumers. WakingApp’s ENTiTi AR Creator 3.0 levels the playing field for developers by enabling individuals with zero coding skills to create AR content for Vuzix smart glasses. Vuzix is really excited to provide ENTiTi AR Creatorform.”

Vuzix Blade“We are extremely excited about this partnership, and of becoming an integral part of one the fastest growing segments in the AR space.” Adds Matan Libis, the CEO of WakingApp Ltd. “By integrating our ENTiTi 3.0 creator with Vuzix line of smart glasses we believe that there is great potential to accelerate the growth in both of our companies.”

VRFocus will have more AR related news, and probably more for Vuzix too, very soon.

Israeli Entrepreneur Launches New Mixed Reality Company

Israel-based entrepreneur Alon Melchner is continuing his involvement with the immersive technology industry with the launch of his latest venture, a new mixed reality (MR) start-up called Mixed Place.

Mixed Place has closed a seed funding round totalling $750,000 (USD), led by Israeli company PPI Worldwide Group. Melchner’s new enterprise has filed 17 patent applications for technology which will allow users to create MR content.

Alon Melchner, Founder and CEO of Mixed Place

Melchner was previously known for being the founder and CEO of augmented reality (AR) firm WakingApp, which was founded in 2012. WakingApp allowed non-developers to create interactive AR content. Mixed Place will similarly allow users to design, build and share digital overlays which will be accurately integrated into the real world.

Alon Melchner says: “The entry of Mixed Reality into our lives will be the greatest digital revolution in human history. Mixed Place’s vision is to map the world and create an infrastructure, which is also known as AR cloud, that will cover it with layers of 3D digital content. Mixed Reality will create a world in which digital consumption will function intuitively as part of the real world, rather than be limited to 2D screens. This will revolutionize every aspect of life and in countless sectors of the economy, from retail and entertainment, through manufacturing, events production, transportation and defense, to education.”

Melchner has revealed his certainty that MR technology will have a huge impact on a huge range of industries and sectors, including tourism, education, infrastructure and retail among others. Furthermore, he has predicted that AR or MR smartglasses will begin to replace smartphones as a preferred display device.

Mixed Place

According to Isaias Miremberg, an owner of PPI Worldwide: “Our decision to serve as a strategic partner and first investor in Mixed Place is no coincidence. It not only reflects our deep confidence in Alon Melchner, a world-renowned expert in Mixed Reality with an integrated background in technology, strategy, and creative. This decision demonstrates the immense potential of Mixed Reality in a range of industries, including retail and sales promotion, which is the business of PPI Worldwide. We believe that this technology’s penetration into the retail industry will grow in the coming years, and we will be one of the spearheads of this technology.”

Further news on new and upcoming VR, AR and MR projects will be reported here on VRFocus.

One-Click Collaboration Turns 3D Models into Interactive AR/VR

WakingApp creates AR/VR add-ins, allowing CAD users easy, seamless transition from 3D models to AR/VR content in ENTiTi Creator

The leading universal AR/VR software company, WakingApp, released new, innovative add-ins that allow AUTODESK REVIT & FUSION 360 users to transform their 3D designs into augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences without AR/VR programming skills or experience. WakingApp’s Revit add-in and Fusion 360 add-in support seamless content generation, a game-changer for millions of CAD users worldwide – enabling file sharing and file fixing for their designs prior to the prototype and printing stage. With just a few mouse clicks, users can turn CAD into AR or VR, and share it with clients and colleagues instantly. These add-ins are expected to have a profound impact on AR/VR design efficiency, as well as to disrupt current business models that have long separated CAD users from AR/VR design. Content generated using the add-ins will be password-protected by default, so that only the user and authorized viewers will be able to view it. The password is initiated directly to the user Autodesk account’s registered email address within minutes after the process has begun. WakingApp staff will be on hand at the Nov14 MEETUP for Fusion 360 users and from November 15-17 in AU CONFERENCE LAS VEGAS to demonstrate the new plug-ins in person.

The greatest challenge for the entry of AR/VR services to everyday business use is the cost of content in time and money,” said Udi Shani, CEO of WakingAPP. “With these new add-ins, WakingApp continues to break down key barriers in AR/VR content creation. We are excited to engage the entire 19 million strong CAD community and help lead them into the world of AR/VR with ease.

Autodesk is excited to see WakingApp delivering our customers Augmented & Virtual Reality in just one click” said Jim Quanci, Senior Director Software partner Development. “When WakingApp’s ENTiTi software is combined with Autodesk apps, millions of CAD users and their customers can experience their designs in augmented and virtual reality in near real time.

With the ENTiTi Creator (WakingApp’s cloud-based platform), CAD users can add interactivity to their designs, such as colors, animating objects and more. This software allows CAD users to edit existing projects created by the Revit or Fusion 360 add-in. Once users save and publish content in ENTiTi, their AR/VR experience can be immediately shared and viewed by clients and colleagues. It’s easy to use and requires no prior AR or VR experience.

WakingApp, an Autodesk partner, was established in 2013 with the vision of enabling designers to create and view AR and VR experiences easily without writing a single line of code.

The ENTiTi platform is designed for non-programmers, allowing the creation of dynamic behaviors through a patent-pending technology with a smooth, easy-to-use interface. The platform is cloud-based and the content is interchangeable. Whenever content is generated or updated, it is immediately available for viewing on multiple platforms including mobile devices, GearVR, and desktop devices such as the Oculus Rift & HTC Vive.

Thanks to WakingApp’s ENTiTi platform, any business can now create virtual reality and augmented reality content in hours and immediately publish it to all major platforms so this medium will finally be able to meet the demand for content in the near future.
