You might be, as the name unsurprisingly suggests, a giant robot in VRobot. But you may think that your kaiju-like behavior whilst in control of your giant metal body is unlikely to meet the three laws of robotics, and is in fact more likely to have Isaac Asimov spinning in his grave. But that’s not the case, as in Luden.io’s videogame the robot is in fact the construction of humans who have been expelled from cities by a rebelling robot population.
For today’s gameplay video Peter, using an HTC Vive on this occasion, takes on the role of the robot’s operator. Will he be the savior that humanity needs or will he march around destroying things? I think you know which it will be.
You can learn more about Luden.io’s game in last week’s interview with CEO Oleg Chumakov. VRFocus will be back tomorrow at the same time with more VR gameplay, tune in then to find out just which game is being played.
Virtual reality (VR) developer Luden.io, the team behind inMind and inCell, has today launched the studio’s latest title, VRobot, on Steam Early Access. The videogame casts the player as a giant robot with the singular goal of making the world a better place, by way of total destruction.
The videogame sets the seen for explosive mayhem with humans having built a Giant Robot to help them clean and reclaim their cities. However, something has gone wrong and the robot views the quickest way to achieving its goal as destroying all the cities, driverless cars, ships and robots.
Players of VRobot will have an arsenal of weaponry at their disposal, collecting special devastating tools like the Tractor Beam or the Tornado Maker as they attempt to be the most accurate or the most crazy cleanup machine. Special buildings in the city will offer a score bonus as you attempt to ‘clean’ the city as fast as possible.
Available now via Steam Early Access, VRobot is compatible with both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The videogame is priced at £10.99 GBP, with a launch discount of 15% available until 27th April 2017. VRFocus has plenty more coverage of VRobot coming soon and will keep you updated with all the latest details from Luden.io.
In case you didn’t fancy smashing up cities as a giant monster, developer Luden.io offer the opportunity to instead smash up cities as a giant robot, and this time, that’s a good thing!
VRobot is set in a future where driverless cars and robots have taken over the cities and sent the hapless human populations fleeing. The humans then built a special Giant Robot that can defeat the rebellious machines, clean up the cities and help the humans reclaim their homes.
In this case ‘clean’ mostly translates into ‘destroy’. The giant robot protagonist has a range of tools such as a tractor beam and even a tornado maker to help accomplish this task.
The robot itself looks appropriately enough like it has a VR headset for a face and has a range of tools such as a tractor beam and even a tornado maker to help accomplish the task of city destruction. There is even a nemesis character, the SuperRobot 3000 that, like everything else, needs to be destroyed.
There are some mysteries to be solved within the VRobot world, however. There is the chance to investigate what exactly happened before the robots flooded the cities and drove the human population out. There is also the question of the mysterious black hole in the sky which they player can also choose to look into.
The videogame is compatible with HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with Touch, since it uses tracked motion controllers as input. The release date has not yet been confirmed, but the developer hopes it will be ready for Steam Early Access release sometime in Spring 2017. A price point has not yet been set, but the development team confirm the price for the Early Access version and full version will remain the same.
Luden.io are keen to involve the community in the development of the game, so will be hosting development livestreams and Steam discussion forums once VRobot is released into Early Access.
Further information is available on the Steam store page, and a trailer for VRobot is available to watch below.
VRFocus will bring you updates on VRobot and other Early Access VR projects when they come in.
