Drone Hunter VR Evolved Out Now for Gear VR

Own a Samsung Gear VR? How often do you go to the ‘less curated’ Gallery Apps section to look at the indie experience available? Probably not that often, so you may have missed a new release this month called Drone Hunter VR Evolved by VR VISIO.

Drone Hunter VR Evolved is a version of the original PC videogame specifically made for Samsung Gear VR, expanding upon its features rather than just a straight port. The story goes that: “You are in control of Drone Hunter – a combat unit fighting off an alien fleet in space. But not really. Who in their right mind would have given control of so advanced robot to some random person? You are just a candidate for this role, whose goal is to get the best score in a combat simulation using Drone hunter’s guns, laser and energy shield,” notes the team.

Apart from the addition of virtual reality (VR), Drone Hunter VR Evolved now includes a shop and upgrades to help tailor your experience – and make those harder areas a little easier. Not taking itself too seriously, the videogame now has hundreds of new voice lines to bring the Drone Hunter persona to life as he comments players’ actions with cheesy quotes from his favourite 80’s movies and jokes about a few internet memes.

The title is essentially a wave shooter for mobile VR, racking up big scores to get on the global leaderboards. Drone Hunter VR Evolved can be played not only using the standard Gear VR touchpad, but also the Gear VR controller, for additional immersion and precise control.

“We had to go into deep pop culture research and I think some of his (Drone Hunter’s) lines will make you laugh or at least smile,” said Sebastian Kropiwnicki, the designer of Drone Hunter in a statement.

Drone Hunter VR Evolved is available at Oculus Store for $2.99/£2.29. For any further updates from VR VISIO, keep reading VRFocus.

Special Forces VR Reveals Steam Release Date

Upcoming tactical virtual reality (VR) shooter Special Forces VR has had the date of its release on Steam for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift confirmed. News on a date for the expected PlayStation VR release is still awaited.

Developer VR Visio previously said that a closed beta for Special Forces VR would be taking place over September, 2017, the feedback from which would be incorporated into the title before its release at the end of the year. The release date is now listed for the Steam VR version as 22nd December, 2017.

Offering cross-platform multiplayer so PC users and console gamers can both play together in the same virtual environment when the PlayStation VR version is eventually released. The title is also designed to be compatible with a large range of VR peripherals, including haptic gloves, haptic suits, gun peripherals, multi-directional locomotion devices, and the PlayStation VR version will have support for the PlayStation Aim controller.

There is no single-player mode, but a multitude of multi-player variants, such as Team deathmatch, free-for-all, rescue the hostage and co-operative scenarios. A free locomotion system is being used instead of the teleportation mechanic popular in many other VR titles. The developers at VR Visio say they have used several techniques to ensure players do not suffer for simulation sickness.

VR Visio have been keen to engage with the community about the title, and have previously release behind-the-scenes videos to demonstrate development on Special Forces VR.

Further information and updates can be found on the Special Forces VR Steam store page.

VRFocus will bring you further information on Special Forces VR and other upcoming titles as it becomes available.

Go Behind The Scenes in this Special Forces VR Video

VR Visio’s Unreal Engine virtual reality (VR) shooter, Special Forces VR, has been announced for PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Now the studio are giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the game in a new video. The developers recently announced a variety of details about the game, including a closed beta, due to go live in September 2017. The game will be compatible with a variety of peripherals too, including the PlayStation Aim controller, and a range of specialised VR peripherals, such as haptic suits and guns.

VR Visio boast; “HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR gamers will soon get a chance to test this next-level multiplayer VR shooter. It is one of the first titles offering cross-platform multiplayer, allowing console and PC gamers to fight in a single deathmatch.”

In the video below, VR Visio show off behind the scenes shots of their studio, and the development of Special Forces VR. They also talk about some of the techniques they used to create the game, and what players can expect from the closed beta, coming in September.

Special Forces VR is very promising – there’s definitely room in the VR space for a great cross-platform shooter, and that’s exactly what VR Visio are promising. Perfect, given that not everyone owns the same VR headset, and PC players will now finally be able to enjoy games with their PlayStation VR pals.

PlayStation Aim Compatible Special Forces VR Promises Cross-Platform Multiplayer

VR Visio games have announced their latest virtual reality (VR) videogame, Special Forces VR. Powered by Unreal Engine, the videogame will be releasing on all the big head-mounted display (HMD) devices; PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Special Forces VR will support a variety of different VR peripherals, including the PlayStation Aim controller, but also special devices such as haptic suits, guns and “locomotion simulators.” VR Visio says this makes the title perfect for esports, though the benefit of VR in esports remains to be seen.

The game plays out essentially like Counter Strike, with players choosing either military or terrorist factions and playing against one another in a variety of game modes – but with the game built from the ground up for VR.

Players will be able to enjoy cross-platform play and wide, open immersive worlds to shoot enemies in – in VR, weapons and tools like riot shields really take on a new dimension when compared to when featured in traditional shooters, with motion controls allowing you to angle and move the shield in different directions, while blind-firing your weapon.

If you’re interested in signing up for beta tests, you can do so on VR Visio’s website here. Beta tests will go live in September 2017.

VR VISIO Look to Ease the Stress of Mixed Reality Video Production

Mixed reality (MR) is the next bastion for virtual reality (VR) content producers, allowing developers to showcase their work to users who may not yet have access to a head-mounted display (HMD). Many studios have put their efforts into producing their own techniques, but today VR VISIO has released a new toolkit to ease the process for all.

Green Cave Studio MR CalbrationMR production requires the positioning a real world video camera inside the VR space, which can be a real struggle especially when trying to achieve high-end precision. There are a number of hacks and workarounds involving attaching the HTC Vive controller to a video recorder, but each of these solutions require individual calibration which is an extremely inefficient and time-consuming process. Polish company VR VISIO has announced a new project that will help face these demands with any developers who are willing to try this innovative tool, specifically easing the camera calibration process.

The Mixed Reality Calibrator Tool, available to download now for free, is a simple application. Calibration of physical and virtual controllers is one of the most important issues as it comes to recording high quality video material in MR, and VR VISIO claim that this tool will significantly speed up the recording process.

A video released by VR VISIO’s Green Cave Studio team, embedded below, offers more details on the Mixed Reality Calibrator Tool and its use. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on MR work from VR VISIO and the growing industry trend for MR commercials.

Hunt Drones on HTC Vive This Week

VR Visio has announced the launch of its debut virtual reality (VR) videogame, Drone Hunter VR, coming to HTC Vive next week. The videogame will test the reflexes of players as they attempt to prove their worth in defending the Earth using the DH125 alien hybrid weapon.

In Drone Hunter VR, NASA has detected an alien fleet approaching Earth. The player is set with taking part in a trial exercise to find the right person to man a top-secret US remote-controlled robot created during the Cold War using alien technology recovered in Roswell, New Mexico. The DH125 is the only weapon capable of defending the Earth against the hostile invaders; will you make the grade?

A wave shooter experience similar to the popular Space Pirate Trainer, Drone Hunter VR will include boss fights punctuating the hordes of enemies attacking in waves. VR Visio also state that a unqiue plot inspired by science-fiction literature such as Ender’s Game and Ready Player One features as a key component of the Drone Hunter VR experience.

Drone Hunter VR will launch exclusively for HTC Vive on 21st December 2016, priced at €9.99 EUR. The official trailer for the videogame follows below and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest VR titles from VR Visio.
