VR ‘Surroundie’ Is All Set To Replace The Selfie Fever
The burgeoning demand for virtual reality headsets and the way this technology is evolving, it looks like it’s beyond one’s imagination to figure out what sort of revolution this tech will bring in the future.
Recently a new term called the “surroundie” has come into picture which is invented by Ben Wood, who is an analyst with CCS Insight- a firm that offers quality services to its clients such as market information and analysis, which helps them in understanding and availing the benefits of the connected world.
A surroundie is nothing but a kind of selfie that’s clicked with the support of a high-end 360-degree camera. It is believed that surroundie may soon become a popular trend when it comes to clicking photos, and the entire credit goes to the growing popularity of VR headsets and the easy accessibility of cost-effective 360-degree cameras.
Wood believes that it’s the right time for this new form of content to hit the mainstream.
According to a report, while talking about the importance of surroundie Wood said that, “The reality is that 99 percent of user-generated content is not great, but the 1 percent that rises to the top can drive incredible amounts of traffic, with the advent of more affordable 360 cameras, combined with both YouTube and Facebook supporting 360 degree content, the ‘surroundie’ can become the new selfie, in particular, the way millenials want to share experiences.“
There is no denying the fact that the sales of VR devices that work with the support of smartphones have gone up drastically. In other words, smartphone VR devices are in high demand these days and people are buying them more and more, to get perfect virtual reality experiences.
According to CCS Insight, in the year 2016, “14.5 million smartphone VR headsets” will be purchased by people, which will be worth over $500 million.“
While talking about the impact of virtual reality, Wood explained that the tech has attracted consumers’ imagination completely especially those who have got the chance to experience it. Since VR devices like cardboard headsets have become easily affordable, accessing virtual reality has become quite simple for smartphone users. And this is taking the creating of 360-degree content to a next level.
The demand for VR headsets such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive is increasing day by day, and this clearly shows that 360 -content will become increasingly common among users in the coming time.
Nowadays, most of the companies are working towards developing 360-degree cameras along with the headsets and Samsung is a live example of that which has come up with the Gear 360 camera apart from the Gear VR headset.
