PSVR Exclusive FPS Blood And Truth Finally Gets A Release Date

PSVR Exclusive FPS Blood And Truth Finally Gets A Release Date

Sony London’s long-anticipated follow-up to The London Heist, Blood and Truth, is nearly here.

The PSVR exclusive first-person shooter (FPS) will launch on 28th May 2019. That much was confirmed during Sony’s first State of Play broadcast today in an explosive new trailer.

Blood and Truth offers a full single-player shooter campaign. It takes players to the streets of London where they’ll face off with gangs. You play as a former SAS soldier and wield two Move motion controllers. Movement is node-based, allowing you to pick between cover points to move to.

This one’s been a long time coming. Blood and Truth was first announced back in 2017. Just as last year’s Astro Bot was born from a brief demo in a PSVR launch compilation, Blood and Truth has its roots in Sony London’s first PSVR title, PlayStation VR Worlds. It featured a 30-minute shooter that placed an emphasis on story and immersion. It’s a pretty good template for what to expect from Blood and Truth.

Still, we’ve had mixed feelings about the game across various gameplay demos over the past year. While the production values are impressive for a VR game, it’s hard to deny some of the gameplay elements feel a little dated by shooter standards. That said, it’s been a while since we last saw the game and, with any luck, Sony London has addressed some of these concerns. We’ll find out soon enough.

Sony London isn’t the only developer working on a PSVR exclusive in the UK. We’re also waiting to see what Sony’s new Manchester-based studio is working on. Perhaps that will be this year too?

Here’s How Dead And Buried 2 Looks On Rift S And Quest

Here’s How Dead And Buried 2 Looks On Rift S And Quest

Looking to see how Oculus Quest games stack up to Rift S? These assets for Oculus’ Dead and Buried 2 should give you some idea.

We’ve uploaded a bunch of videos of the upcoming VR shooter, which is appearing on both platforms. Oculus provided them to us at GDC this week. Sadly we don’t have screenshots for a direct comparison; we were only provided with Quest images on that front. So we decided to put a bunch of the clips together so that people could see what the game looks like for themselves.

Okay and we’ll throw in some GIFs too just for good measure. Here it is again on Quest.

And here it is one last time on Rift.

How do you think they stack up? Personally speaking it looks like the Quest version holds its own pretty well. We’ll have to wait until both headsets our in our hands to give it a really accurate rundown, though.

Then again, this is an internally-developed Oculus project with the full might of Facebook on its side. It remains to be seen if other developers will have a similar level of success getting their Rift games to run on the platform.

We’re expecting Dead and Buried 2 to launch alongside both Rift S and Quest this spring. It’s also thought that this will be one of the cross-platform titles to support both cross-buy and cross-play. The former means that anyone that buys one version gets the other, while the latter means you can play together regardless of platform. Neat!

Space Junkies Goes Into Cross-Play Open Beta On PSVR, PC VR Tomorrow

Space Junkies vr shooter zero-gravity

Good news! You’ll have a chance to try out Ubisoft’s exciting new zero gravity VR shooter, Space Junkies, this weekend. Even better news: you can do so for free and with cross-play!

The multiplayer game is getting an open beta just ahead of launch. It kicks off tomorrow, March 21st at 6PM CET/10AM PDT. On PSVR it will run through to March 24th at 12PM CET/4AM PDT. Rift, Vive and Windows VR players get a little longer; the beta ends on March 25th at the same time on PC. The game has already had several closed betas, but this is the first time that everyone will get a try.

The beta will include a big chunk of content. There will be six maps, seven guns and 15 characters to choose from. There’s a new trailer for the testing phase below.

And, yes, PSVR players will get to join in on the cross-play fun. We know that PSVR utilizes DualShock 4 controllers with its own navigation system. PC VR players, meanwhile, will be able to use motion controllers. We’ll be very interested to see if that puts console players on par with their PC rivals or it one with have a leg up on the other.

Space Junkies offers 1v2 and 2v2 multiplayer shootouts. Think Echo Combat, just not exclusive to the Oculus Rift.

It might be best to think of this more as a free demo than an actual beta, though. Space Junkies’ full version launches on March 26th, so there’s very little time between beta and launch.

GDC 2019: Dead and Buried 2 Coming To Oculus Quest And Rift S

GDC 2019: Dead and Buried 2 Coming To Oculus Quest And Rift S

Oculus’ showcase VR shooter, Dead and Buried, is getting a sequel. Dead and Buried 2 is coming soon.

The game was announced at the 2019 Game Developers Conference (GDC) this week. As with the first, it’s a western-themed multiplayer first-person shooter (FPS). Players brawl through saloons and streets in pursuit of becoming the fastest gun in VR. Crucially, though, the sequel allows full freedom of movement through virtual environments. The original had players rooted to specific places on a map.

Here are five minutes of the game being played on Oculus Rift. It looks pretty frantic, with inventive weaponry and dual-wielding action. At one point you can see a logo for the ‘Oculus Strike Team’ developer too. Like the first, Dead and Buried 2 is largely developed by a small internal team at Oculus. The original game did get a helping hand from Chronos and From Other Suns developer, Gunfire Games, though it’s not clear if that’s the case here too.

We’ve also got a few GIFs of the game in action (on Quest) below.

We should have more details on the game for you later this week. Though unconfirmed, this certainly seems like a good place to demonstrate the cross-buy and cross-play features between Rift S and Quest. The former means that anyone that buys a compatible game on one headset will get it on the other headset too. Cross-play, meanwhile, means Rift S and Quest players can play together in compatible multiplayer titles.

We’re expecting the game to be a launch title for Quest but, again, that’s unconfirmed.

Immortal Legacy Looks Like A Promising PSVR FPS In New Gameplay

Immortal Legacy Looks Like A Promising PSVR FPS In New Gameplay

Immortal Legacy: The Jade Cipher, previously known as Kill X, is coming to PSVR very soon. Judging by this new gameplay clip, it looks half decent.

Sony revealed new footage of the game as part of its recent China Hero Project update. The initiative is designed to support up and coming Chinese developers. In Immortal Legacy’s case, Sony is actually going to publish the game itself. That put the game on our radar in a big way.

The four minutes of gameplay on offer here might suggest why Sony took developer Viva Games under its wing. This doesn’t look like a simple wave shooter or on-rails experience but a fully fledged VR FPS. We can see an inventory system, elements of storytelling and some good spooky scares. It’s on the intense side, too; at one point the player falls through the floor without warning.

There are some nice ideas at play in Immortal Legacy too, like fish that bite into your arm and must be sliced off with a knife. The game also just looks pretty great on the visuals side.

We played a very early demo for the game a few years back. At the time it was a little rough around the edges but held promise. Hopefully, it’s had a much-needed tune-up since then. We’re less enthused about the horrid bug monster infesting the display with cockroaches, but we’ll just have to be brave.

Immortal Legacy is set to launch on March 20th. We’ll be bringing you full coverage of the game as the month goes on.

Fresh Evasion Update Lets You Get Competitive With Friends

Fresh Evasion Update Lets You Get Competitive With Friends

VR bullet hell shooter Evasion is getting a new update today. It adds a competitive twist to the co-op gameplay.

The Killstreak Update, as it’s called, goes live today at 10am PT on Rift, Vive and PSVR. Chief among the additions is a new scoring system. Every level in the game now features leaderboards to compete in, each of which is tuned to different difficulty modes. It’ll put your skills to the limit as you aim to shoot down enemies as quickly as possible while avoiding an incoming barrage of bullets.

Check it out in action below. It’s basically ‘Evasion: Now With Numbers!’

To celebrate the launch, developer Archiact is hosting a Weekend Challenge event. From 4pm PT February to 6pm February 17th you’ll be able to shoot your way to the top. Unspecified prizes (the best kind) will be available for the winners.

We’re quite fond of Evasion here at UploadVR. It’s a frantic shooter that’s a lot of fun to dive into with friends. “There isn’t as much progression across the game in terms of class abilities and leveling up as I’d have liked, but the core gameplay, boss fights, and level design are so strong I didn’t mind as much,” we said in our review. “Playing solo is a bit rough, so with a friend by your side Evasion not only becomes one of VR’s best shooters, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find any other VR game that’s as purely fun on a moment-to-moment basis.”

Better warm up the shooting arm, then.

Contractors VR: Beginner’s Guide To Playing The Fast-Paced VR FPS

Contractors VR: Beginner’s Guide To Playing The Fast-Paced VR FPS

Contractors VR, a fresh FPS that originally launched in early-access back in December, is quickly rising in popularity thanks to its superb graphical fidelity and fluid controls. If you’re sick of Onward and Pavlov, Contractors VR blends the two together into something that lets you enjoy the best of Onward’s tactical pliability and Pavlov’s snappy cadence in a cleaner, better curated package.

When you first start up Contractors, you might have a few questions about how it operates. That’s why I’ve picked out the best tips and tricks for brand new beginners to get a leg up in learning how to play.

Party Up

From the main menu, you can party with other players on your Steam friends list and matchmake together as a group. It beats the process that you’d normally go through in other VR FPS games to designate a server as a meetup point for you and your friends.

Play Around With The Customization System

Contractors divides its primary weapon categories between Assault Rifle, Carbine, SMG, Shotgun, and Sniper Rifle. You also get a slew of gadgets, melee weapons, and secondaries to choose from. Finally, you can switch between Light, Medium and Heavy armor which come with different loadout slots and benefits.

Note: Light armor lets you equip two primaries, while medium armor has the most gadget slots.

Use the Target Practice Courses in the Main Lobby

There are a series of training courses available to complete, which run you through each of the weapon types and score you based on performance. You can run through each of them as many times as you’d like, and it’s a great way to test out new weapons and loadouts. Outside of the training courses, you can also use the targets for practice with unlimited ammo and explore the warehouse as you please.

Don’t (Always) Leave Customization Points On The Table

If you have extra customization points after you’ve finished building your loadout, you might as well allocate them and experiment with the different outcomes. Fiddle with Contractors’ array of attachments, gadgets, and weapon types until you have 0 customization points left over in your loadout. You can create some truly interesting builds while doing so. It’s not always the best winning strategy, however, if you don’t use 100% of the gear that you put into your loadout. This is explained below.

Keep Track of Your Mobility and Armor Scores

Each item and armor type in Contractors VR carries a certain weight with it, decreasing mobility as you stack up your loadout. Pay attention to the Armor and Mobility bars on the bottom left section of the loadout menu as you choose your gear. Contrary to my previous tip, when you opt to leave customization points on the table, you take on less weight and maintain better mobility overall.

Grip Your Weapons From Multiple Points

If you’re using a rifle, you can choose whether to grip it from the magazine or from the forestock. Gripping from the magazine is better for from-the-hip shooting while gripping from the forestock offers pretty much what you’d expect in terms of balanced aiming and recoil control.

You Can Dual-Wield

Dual-wielding is a nice feature in VR FPS games because frankly, who doesn’t want to feel like a badass with two weapons? Unfortunately, while you can dual-wield, you really shouldn’t try to build your loadout for dual-wielding unless you go for high mobility. Dual uzis with light armor is a simple short-range loadout that you can use to overtake enemies in tight spaces.

You Can Reload Holstered & Off-Hand Weapons

Just slide your clip or magazine into the weapon while it’s holstered and it’ll fit snugly. This can be useful for reloading weapons while moving, or if you don’t want to stow your current weapon to switch to the unloaded one.

If you’re holding a gun in your off-hand, you can reload it. Ambidextrous reloading also works if you’re holding a gun by its forestock.

Physically Duck While Sprinting to Slide

The running slide is one of the cooler features of Contractors VR that we haven’t seen in other major multiplayer FPS titles. When sprinting, duck rapidly to initiate the slide. If you don’t duck fast enough, you will engage crouching mode instead of sliding. This is useful for quickly moving down slopes and into/out of cover.

Experiment With Firing Modes

Many of Contractors’ weapons come with two or three different firing modes. In order to get a good feel for a given weapon, try out each of its different firing modes. Semi-auto is always the most accurate while full-auto is always the best for close quarters combat.

Always Fortify the Control Point

The maps in Contractors are built to be wide open, with many different potential angles of attack in each heat zone where a control point might appear. The control points have big targets overhead in the form of HUD markers, and they’re completely fair game—even if you capture a point, you need to wait for it to transmit its valuable data contents.

Meanwhile, enemy players can hide in the shadows and get the jump on you if you don’t know where they’re coming from. Once you’ve captured a control point, you and your squadmates should always cover each and every entrance to the area surrounding it while it transmits data.

Turn off IK and Tactical Vest to Enhance Performance

Go into Settings -> Controls and switch “full-player body” to “hands only”. While in the settings menu, swing over to Presentation and turn off the visible tactical vest which can sometimes get in the way of your weapon and gear visibility. Turning both options off should make it easier for your system to render the game. This is especially handy if you use heavy armor which, when rendered, eats up a lot of visual space whenever you look down.

Run Over Data Orbs That Dead Players Drop

Both teammates and enemies will drop bright blue or orange orbs which contain useful data, the primary resource that both teams need to amass in order to win a Control match. Killing enemies and taking their data will not yield nearly as much data as capturing a control point, but it still contributes to your team’s score.

Figure Out Where the Ammo Caches Are

Each map has a handful of ammo caches where you can restock your munitions mid-round. These can be useful spots to consider when you’re deciding which lanes to tackle as you move towards the next control point.

Remember that other players drop their items when they die, so you don’t need to come back to an ammo cache if you run out of ammo. Grabbing your downed opponent’s gun and spare mags can save you an unnecessary trip away from the objective.

Contractors VR is in early-access release now on Steam. While it is still a new game with only a few maps to play so far, it is quite polished and a total blast to play. As a new player, hopefully these snappy tips give you insight that you wouldn’t have had otherwise.

You can find Contractors VR on Steam for $19.99 and watch our archived livestream to see it in action.

Zero-Gravity Shooter Space Junkies Could Be Coming To PSVR

Space Junkies vr shooter zero-gravity

It looks like a Space Junkies PSVR version could indeed happen.

As spotted by Ostrog the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) website recently listed Ubisoft’s upcoming zero-gravity shooter. That hopefully means that the long-awaited PC VR version is nearly here. But, more importantly, the listing says the game is coming to PC and PS4. Unless it’s some kind of a mistake, that makes it obvious the game is PSVR-bound. We’ve reached out to Ubisoft to confirm the news.

Space Junkies was first announced back in 2017. It’s a multiplayer shooter similar to Echo Combat. You float through space, bouncing off of walls and ceilings, trying to gun your opponent down. Unlike Echo Combat, though, Space Junkies has an Unreal Tournament vibe that we’re big fans of. Developer Ubisoft Montpellier spent much of last year polishing the gamer with closed-beta testing. Then, in late 2018 the developer confirmed that the game would now be launching later this year.

“This new release timeframe will ensure we deliver on our promise of being the best VR FPS set in micro gravity, and we hope you can hang in there a bit longer!” the developer wrote at the time.

If the game is indeed coming to PSVR we’ll be interested to see how the port shapes up. This is a game that makes full use of 360-degree tracking and requires players to have quick reactions. Hopefully Ubisoft can translate all of that to the headset’s more limited tracking and controllers.

Hopefully we won’t have too much longer to wait until we’re finally playing the full version of Space Junkies. When we last played it we said it was shaping up to be one of VR’s best competitive shooters.

Tactical VR Shooter ‘Zero Killed’ to Arrive on Vive & Rift This Month, Gameplay Trailer Here

Hot on the heels of PSVR’s hit tactical shooter Firewall Zero Hour comes a new tactical VR shooter that’s inspired by Rainbow Six Siege (2015) and the Counter-Strike franchise. Dubbed Zero Killed, the Warsaw-based VR/AR studio Ignibit today announced the four vs. four team shooter is slated to release on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift September 26th, and that a PSVR version will soon follow.

Zero Killed, Ignibit says, focuses heavily on team cooperation and communication. Players will be able to choose between 10 different characters which span several classes, including tank, demolitions expert, and tech expert—all of whom come with their own weapons loadout, unique gadget, and individual perk.

The studio touts “realistic weapons behavior,” which feature recoil, environmental damage mechanics, and obstacle penetration. While there’s still no word on whether weapons will be upgradable, Ignibit maintains both holographic and laser sights will be available for primary weapons. Secondary weapons include grenades, mines, a sonar device, explosives, deployable shields, and the ability to ‘tag’ enemies to make them more visible to teammates.

Zero Killed is said to arrive with four game modes including Data Steal, Domination, Hunt, and Tournament, which will play out across three locations: ‘Nuclear’, ‘Suburbs’, and ‘Sewers’.

Locomotion options at this point aren’t entirely clear, although the studio says teleportation will not be an option, and will include sprinting, climbing, and sliding down ladders.

Check out Zero Killed on Steam (Rift, Vive).

Former ‘God of War’ Devs Launch Kickstarter for Colossal VR Shooter ‘Titan Arena’

Lightbound Studios, a company founded by two former God of War series developers, are aiming to bring something truly colossal to VR with their upcoming first-person shooter Titan Arena.

The game essentially pits you against increasingly harder Titans in a crowded arena, of course unlocking new weapons along the way.

The developers are promising a pretty comprehensive range of locomotion schemes, including smooth movement, strafing, dashing, snap-turning, and climbing via grappling hook-style tether.

Currently, the studio is advertising three weapons that can be used defeat both the massive Titans and their pesky robot underlings, which include the tether for grabbing drones, a chain gun, and a plasma launcher that can lock onto targets.

According to the Steam listing, the game is slated to arrive on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows VR headsets in April 2019. An Early Bird Steam key will cost you $17. As an ‘all-or-nothing’ campaign, the studio must hit their funding goal of $30,000 by September 27th, 2018.

If the work-in-progress trailer indicates anything, we’re likely in for plenty of foot stomping, fist crushing, and laser beams to dodge as you tango with threatening swarms of air and tank-sized land robots. Prefaced as “real game footage,” the studio is also targeting a fairly high level of polish to boot.

Lightbound Studios previously produced the mobile game Star Chaserswhich was released in January 2016. This will be the studio’s first VR game. Check out the Kickstarter here.
