VR Cover Starts its Black Friday Sales Early

VR Cover

The annual Black Friday sales event may not officially start for a couple more weeks but that doesn’t stop retailers from kicking a few deals off early. And that’s exactly what VR Cover has begun, rolling out loads of discounts across its range of virtual reality (VR) accessories.

VR Cover

VR Cover has a huge range of addon’s for most VR headsets, with Oculus Quest 2 the biggest beneficiary. Out of all the deals, 20 are for the standalone headset, whilst there are also discounts to be had on accessories for the original Quest, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index, and Windows Mixed Reality devices including the HP RTeverb G2.

None of VR Covers’ prices are overly expensive so the discounts aren’t huge but it’s worth a gander if you’re after a few bits. For Oculus Quest 2 owners some of the best deals can be found on the Controller Grips or the Facial Interface & Foam Replacement Set, both of which are down from €29/$29 to €20.30/$20.30. Or then there are the Silicone Covers in various colours currently retailing for €8.10/$8.10. VRFocus reviewed a few of these accessories and found most to be of a decent quality.

As for the other Oculus headsets, there are foam replacements for Oculus Rift and Go, a cotton cover for Oculus Quest and Rift as well as head strap replacements. It’s a similar selection for PC VR headsets, Silicone Covers for Valve Index, HTC Vive gets foam replacements and cotton covers whilst HP Reverb G2 gets silicone and cotton covers for its facial gasket.

They may all be dubbed Black Friday deals but as they go through until 3rd December 2021 it’s more of a discount month.

Hopefully, there will be plenty of VR Black Friday deals this year with the Oculus website already suggesting signing up to be notified. An offer is already available: “beat the rush and buy a Quest 2 today and get £10 off of a Quest 2 Elite Strap With Battery,” but is it worth holding off?

As more VR Black Friday deals are announced in the coming weeks, VRFocus will let you know.

Protect Those Precious Oculus Quest 2 Lenses With VR Cover’s new Accessory

VR Cover - Lens Protector Quest 2

VR Cover has become a one-stop shop for almost all your Oculus Quest 2 accessory needs, whether that’s improving the comfort or protection of your virtual reality (VR) headset. Having previously released an “okay” Lens Cover for the device the company has now gone a step further by launching the far more useful Lens Protector.

VR Cover - Lens Protector Quest 2

No matter which VR headset you own one commonality running through them all is the need to protect those windows into virtual worlds. Scratch them or damage them in any way and your VR experience can be ruined. So unless you’re super careful and the only person using your Oculus Quest 2 you’ve probably thought about some sort of lens protection.

The VR Cover Lens Protectors are designed to do just that, with the company stating that the lenses are: “Made of high-quality Tritan with oil-proof, abrasion-resistant and anti-smudge coatings.” Thus stopping any annoying little scratches appearing or finger smudges. The coatings also make the lenses easy to clean.

Additionally, the Lens Protector comes with a blue light filter, blocking some of those digital rays which are known to cause eye fatigue – most new mobile phones have a blue light filter option for example.

VR Cover - Lens Protector Quest 2

Fitting the Lens Protector couldn’t be easier, each one simply pushes straight over each Oculus Quest 2 lens, for a snug fit.

The Lens Protector is available now for $19 USD (€19 EUR) from VR Cover’s regional stores. The company also has a promotion running at the moment where you can get a free Silicone Cover for Oculus Quest 2 with any purchase.

VR Cover Mid-Year Sale Discounts All its Accessories

VR Cover

Own an Oculus Quest 2 headset and are looking to improve your virtual reality (VR) gaming with new accessories? Then you may want to look at VR Cover’s mid-year sale which is currently running until the end of this week. VR Cover has heavily leaned into accessories for the Quest 2 since the headset launched, offering new facial interfaces, lens covers and controller grips.

VR Cover

It doesn’t matter if you head to the European, US or Worldwide stores, all the Oculus Quest 2 accessories have been discounted, with most around the 30% mark. If you’re looking for more comfort then the Facial Interface & Foam Replacement Set (in a range of colours) is down from €29.00 EUR/$29.00 USD to €20.30/$20.30. Or for those energetic VR sessions how about a Silicone Cover for €9.80/$9.80 instead of €14.00/$14.00. Find yourself smacking the walls or furniture? Then the Halo Controller Protector might be a useful addition for €10.50/$10.50 (normally €15/$15).

While there are a lot of accessories for the Oculus Quest 2, if you own another headset VR Cover does cater for other devices just not as extensively. For example, there’s the Facial Interface and Foam Replacement Set (€20.30/$20.30) and the Silicone Cover (€9.80/$9.80) for HP Reverb G2

If you own a Valve Index there’s the cotton VR Cover for $15.20 (down from $19.00) or the Interface & Foam Replacement Basic Set for $31.20 (normally $39.00). The same goes for Oculus Rift S with the cotton VR Cover retailing for $13.30 instead of $19, and the Silicone Cover for $8.40 (normally $14.00). So there are a few deals and saves to be had.

VR Cover

It’s worth noting that while Oculus does sell its own accessories via its website including VR Cover’s very own Facial Interface & Foam Replacement Set, there are no offers on currently. So it’s best to go direct to source.

The VR Cover mid-year sale runs until 26th June (11.59pm EDT). For Quest 2 owners, if you happen to spend over €50/$50 then add a Silicone Cover for Oculus Quest 2 to your cart, you’ll get it for free. For all the latest VR deals and savings, keep reading VRFocus.

VRCover Quest 2 Replacement Headstrap Impressions: A Viable Alternative

VRCover offers a variety of accessories for VR headsets, including Oculus Quest 2. But how does VRCover’s stretchy Headstrap Replacement stack up against the strap included with the Quest 2? Here are our impressions.

Oculus Quest 2 comes with a stretchy, adjustable fabric strap that can be adjusted at the back and the sides — a change from the hard rubber strap included with the original Quest. While the Quest 2’s fabric strap generally does the job, it can be a tad finicky to adjust while on your head and often starts to make the headset feel heavy on the forehead after around 10-15 minutes. Oculus’ official alternatives — the Elite Strap and Elite Strap with battery pack — do a better job, but have had quality control issues with cracks on the sides.

So if you’re looking for something similar to the included strap but with a bit more support, does VRCover’s Headstrap Replacement do the trick?

quest 2 vrcover headstrap replacement

On the whole, yes. At its core, the VRCover Replacement Strap is in the same vein as the Quest 2’s included strap, with a few key differences and improvements. It’s closer to the included Quest 2 strap than the Elite and is made out of very similar, soft and stretchy fabric material. Just like any other replacement strap, installation is easy — the top strap slips into the holder under the facial interface, and the sides click onto the Quest headset with ease.

While it may be in the same vein as the included strap, VRCover’s alternative differs by offering something slightly more complicated, with more straps in total, a slightly trickier fitting session but with increased comfort overall.

The biggest difference is that instead of one horizontal strap running across the back of your head, the VRCover strap has two horizontal straps. There’s one that sits the bottom of you head (in a similar position to bottom of the original Quest’s strap) and one that sits slightly higher on the back of your head.

Even better, both of these horizontal straps are made from the same single piece of fabric, folded over – this means you only need to make one adjustment to affect the tightness of both straps. They tighten in tandem, which is clever and convenient.

Speaking of – unlike the included Quest 2 strap, which has the adjustable knobs akin to tightening a bike helmet — the VRCover strap uses velcro. The benefit is that it’s much easier to quickly adjust mid-session, but the downside is that it’s harder to quickly get the strap super tight, due to the elastic nature of the fabric.

quest 2 vrcover headstrap replacement

In addition to the back horizontal straps, there is the overhead strap that runs from front to back, just like any other strap. However, there’s also an overhead strap that runs in the opposite direction, across the top of your head horizontally from left to right, connected in the middle to the other overhead strap. This horizontal strap lets you tighten across the top of your head, which I found help with overall stability.

It’s hard to judge how effective any VR headstrap will be at providing the right level of adjustment and comfort for everyone. No two human heads are the same, and so people will often have different strap preferences. That being said, for me the VRCover Replacement Strap offered an improved alternative over the strap included in the Quest 2 box in small but important ways. It’s more complicated, but for good reason — once the fit is right, I found the VRCover strap to relieve some tension on the forehead while also feeling more stable during intense play sessions.

There’s more moving parts in the VRCover strap, which makes it a bit harder to just throw on your head quickly. However, the pay-off is clear — there’s more areas to tighten and adjust, which should give you a better, more supportive fit.

The VRCover Replacement Strap for Quest 2 is available to order online now for $24.

VR Cover Expands Oculus Quest 2 & HP Reverb G2 Accessory Lineup

VR Cover Headstrap Replacement for Oculus

When it comes to Oculus Quest 2 accessories VR Cover already offered a fairly extensive selection of affordable products. It has now added a couple more to that lineup as well as expanding its accessory options for the HP Reverb G2.

VR Cover Facial Interface and Foam Replacement
Facial Interface and Foam Replacement Set for HP Reverb G2

The main addition Oculus Quest 2 owners might be interested in is the Headstrap Replacement. Retailing for $24 USD, if you don’t like the stock Oculus Quest 2 strap then VR Cover’s version may just provide the support you need when playing Beat Saber. Greatly expanding the fabric rigging around your head it certainly looks like a secure fit can be achieved – and for half the price of the Elite Strap.

Plus if comfort and colour are important when accessorising your VR experience then VR Cover has released a snazzy Dark Blue Foam Replacement Set for its Facial Interface Kit. The set retails for $19.

As for the HP Reverb G2, owners can now buy the Facial Interface and Foam Replacement Set to replace the stock offering for $29. Made with PU Leather Foam, in the kit you get the interface and two pads in Standard and the thicker Comfort size which are easy to clean. Plus there’s a detachable nose guard which can help reduce light leaks.

All of these new products are currently available on VR Cover’s US and Worldwide stores. They’ll be released on the European store in a couple of weeks.

VR Cover hasn’t slowed down this year when it comes to accessorising either of the headset which only arrived towards the end of 2020. While the HP Reverb G2 got a Silicone Cover last month, Oculus Quest 2 saw the arrival of a carry case, Controller Grips and Halo Protectors so hitting a wall won’t be as damaging.

As the lineup of new accessories continues to grow, VRFocus will keep you updated.

Oculus Partners With VirtuClear For Quest 2 Prescription Lens Inserts

This week Facebook revealed a new web page with details about VirtuClear Lens Inserts for Oculus Quest 2. They’re custom-made prescription lenses so you no longer need to wear glasses while in VR. They’re available starting from $80.

quest 2 lens inserts virtuclear

VirtuClear Lens Inserts for Quest 2

We’ve seen plenty of similar lens inserts from other companies over the years, such as VR Lens Lab and WIDOvr. These other companies have lens options for a wide range of headsets, including Valve Index and HP Reverb G2.

When you visit the web page on the Oculus website there’s a “Learn More” button that redirects you to a Frames Direct web page to purchase the VirtuClear Lens Inserts.

According to the product specifications on the web page, they’re available as SPH prescriptions from 0 to -8 and CYL prescriptions from 0 to -2. They’re 1.6 Hi Index Essilor lenses that are coated to minimize glare and should be easy to install by just clipping into place.

They’re marked as (L) and (R) and they just click on top of the existing headset lenses. Once they’re in, you might notice you need to slightly adjust the IPD slider since the lenses may be in a different position now relative to your pupils. Depending on your facial structure the glasses spacer that came with the Quest 2 might helps some as well.

You can get the VirtuClear Lens Inserts for your Quest 2 at a price point of about $80. For more accessory tips and recommendations for Quest 2, make sure and check out our buying guide and see our list of the best Quest games for ideas on something new to play.

VRCover Introduces New Quest 2 Headstrap Replacement And More Facial Interfaces

VRCover is introducing another new accessory to its lineup of add-ons and replacement parts with the Oculus Quest 2 Headstrap Replacement. You can buy one right now for $24 plus shipping on the VRCover US Store (ships to US, Canada, or Mexico), EU Store, or International Store.

[When you purchase items through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission from those sales.]

quest 2 headstrap replacement vrcover

Just from looking at it you can tell the main difference is that it has two back straps instead of just one, which should disperse the weight more and sort of cradle the back of your head. Stylistically, it looks more similar to the original Rift’s strap design.

We haven’t had the chance to try out this new replacement headstrap for the Quest 2, but we often recommend VRCover to people in our buying guides and in standalone VRCover reviews. I personally swear by the VRCover facial interface replacement for Quest 2 and I’ve heard good things about the controller grips. My other main comfort enhancement I use on my Quest 2 is a VR Power battery pack / counterweight.

They’re also debuting a new blue foam replacement set for the Quest 2 and a facial interface replacement similar to the existing line on Quest and Quest 2, but now for the HP Reverb G2. Or, if you’d prefer silicone, you can get one of those for the Reverb G2 as well.

You can buy the new Quest 2 Headstrap Replacement now for $24 plus shipping on the VRCover US Store (ships to US, Canada, or Mexico), EU Store, or International Store.

VR Cover Oculus Quest 2 Carrying Case Is Cheaper Than Facebook’s

A new VR Cover Oculus Quest 2 Carrying Case is now available, and it’s cheaper than Facebook’s official offering.

The case costs $29 and fits not just the Quest 2 and its controllers but also includes room for the headset kitted out with at least some of VR Cover’s other items, like the Facial Interface and Foam Replacement Set, Head Strap Foam Pad and XL Spacer. Take note, however, that Facebook’s official Elite Straps and VR Cover’s Quest 2 controller add-ons like the grips and protectors, won’t fit inside the case. Check out some images below.

The Elite Straps do fit inside Facebook’s alternative, so if you already have one of them, you’re best off with that. In fact, you can only get the Elite Strap with Battery with the case bundled in. It’s pricey at $129, but we think it’s still one of the best purchases a Quest owner could make.

But if you don’t then this case might be a good choice (though we haven’t tried it out for ourselves just yet). The hard shell is covered in a nylon fabric and the interior is padded to protect. There are also extra pockets for other items to store and velcro straps keep the kit in place when moving around. A handle at the top helps you carry it.

VR Cover’s products have been selling out pretty quickly since Quest 2’s launch, though the VR Cover Oculus Quest 2 Carrying Case is currently only sold in the US store – there’s no sign of it on the European or worldwide stores just yet.

VR Cover Introduces Oculus Quest 2 Carry Case & HP Reverb G2 Silicone Cover

VR Cover

Becoming a one-stop-shop for all your Oculus Quest 2 accessory needs, VR Cover’s range is getting fairly extensive since the headset arrived in October 2020. The company has now expanded its product selection with the addition of a carry case as well as introducing its first HP Reverb G2 accessory.

VR Cover

Offering an alternative to Oculus’ official £49 GBP carry case which snuggly fits the headset – with or without the Elite Strap – and both controllers, VR Cover’s $29 USD version can hold the headset and controllers with zip pockets for additional storage. It won’t fit the Elite Strap or Elite Strap with Battery, however.

On the plus side, it’ll accommodate VR Cover accessories like Facial Interface and Foam Replacement Set, plus there’s a short carry handle and a supplied adjustable shoulder strap for easy transportation. At the moment, the VR Cover Carrying Case for Oculus Quest 2 is only available in North America.

And for those of you with a new HP Reverb G2, VR Cover’s Silicone Cover is now available in North America as well. Retailing for $14, its made from the same medical grade silicone that is unoiled and hypoallergenic as the other headset versions, it just comes in one colour though. The cover is designed to perfectly fit around the stock face mask, ideal if you want to avoid wear and tear or enjoy energetic fitness titles which make you sweat.

VR Cover

VR Cover hasn’t said when these items will be made available in other territories but expect that to happen sooner rather than later. For example, the new Oculus Quest 2 Controller Grips and Halo Protectors arrived at the beginning of the year in North America followed by worldwide roll out a week later.

Oculus Quest owners have got lot’s to be excited about this week with Facebook announcing its v25 software update. This adds App Lab, a new distribution path for developers to get their products onto the headset. Plus Messenger is being rolled out to those who’ve linked to their Facebook account.
