Cannes XR

“This is our second year collaborating with Cannes XR,” says Jingshu Chen, Co-founder of VeeR. “Last year, as the sole Chinese partner of Cannes XR, we hosted both world-wide online exhibitions and local offline exhibitions in China. The showcase brought top-tier VR works to VR communities and beyond, attracting attention from the film industry, tech companies and investors. We received encouraging feedback from the audience, and collaborated with respected organizations to distribute the selected VR works.

“This year, we are very excited to announce that we’ll expand the selection from 3DOF to 6DOF VR content, aiming to showcase a wider range of talented works to a global audience and keep pushing the boundary of immersive storytelling,” Chen continues. “We’ve been working on a scalable solution to distribute 6DOF content for the past year. Our Zerospace VR cinema is now fully ready to showcase 6DOF content, and soon our online platform VeeR is going to support 6DOF as well. I cannot wait to see the immersive creation this year. Together with Cannes XR, we’ll keep supporting immersive storytellers and bringing their works to a wider market.”

Remaining committed to its support of the XR community, the Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes wants to remain a place where professionals from across the industry can remotely come together to help shape its future.

Cannes XR Virtual will be made available across a variety of platforms. Anyone with a virtual reality (VR) headset can step into the Museum of Other Realities (MOR) from 24th June to 3rd July, the app supporting VR headsets on SteamViveport, or Oculus

“It is a very special edition. After having prepared for a promising edition in Cannes, where for the first time we would have expanded the VR to the Palm Beach, we had to reinvent Cannes XR and find a way to put it online,” said Jérôme Paillard, Executive Director of the Marché du Film in a statement. “I’m very impressed to see how fast, with our spectacular team and our wonderful partners, it has been possible to build a totally new concept where we will be able to show worldwide, and with optimal quality, the VR experiences that we were expecting to show in Cannes”.

Museum of Other Realities

“The MOR is a perfect place to host an ambitious and stylistically challenging event like Cannes XR,” adds Robin Stethem, Co-founder of the Museum of Other Realities. “Creating a virtual venue that can host numerous showcases, VR arcades, 360 cinemas and networking spaces where some of the finest global digital players can meet and interact is what we love to do. The MOR is a place to connect, share, and experience virtual reality art with others, and so we hope everyone who is interested in XR creation will join us for the virtual edition of Cannes XR.”

To create a diverse programme Cannes XR Virtual has collaborated with Tribeca Film Festival and Kaleidoscope who will be curating their own showcases.

The professional side of Cannes XR Virtual will only be open to those registered with the Marché du Film Online.  Accreditations open 12th May at an early bird rate of €95 EUR until 29th May and €195 thereafter.

VeeR Launches Web-Based VR Creation Tools

When creating content in virtual reality (VR), a certain level of technological expertise is often needed. Since the technology is still in a relatively early phase, much of it needs specialist software in order to create VR experiences of high quality, creating a barrier to entry. VR content platform VeeR is aiming to lower this barrier with the launch of VeeR Experience, its now web-based creation tools.

VeeR say that its new creation tools allows content creators and enthusiastic amateurs create engaging VR content by utilising a user-friendly drag-and-drop system before sharing it to the existing VeeR VR content platform.

Content created on the VeeR Experience platform is compatible with all major VR headsets, including HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Go, Samsung Gear VR, Google Daydream and Windows Mixed Reality.

VeeR Experience supports VR or 360-degree video in various different formats, including 3D or 2D or 180-degree and lets creators craft an interactive story by merging together VR or 360-degree video with photos, hotspots, pop-up 2D elements, spatial audio and more.

Ayden Ye, VeeR VR CEO and Co-founder. “VeeR has over 50K VR content creators and 30M users from more than 180 countries now. With the proper tools such as VeeR Experience, we can empower creators to produce more high-quality engaging VR content easily. By utilizing the VeeR’s global platform, VR content will be distributed to global audience from 180+ countries and regions. VeeR is going to continue developing more advanced features that cater to the needs of VR content creators.”

The VeeR Experience tools are available for free and doesn’t use advertising. The company has stated its belief that the VR landscape has much in the way of static, passive content, but that VR needs to produce more quality, interactive content if it is to grow into a thriving ecosystem.

Further information on VeeR and VeeR Experience can be found on the company website. Further news on new and upcoming VR projects can be found on VRFocus.

Customise Your 360 Videos with VeeR Editing Suite

The rise is user-generated content over the past few years has seen a boom in independent videogame studios, and a lot of the one-or-two person teams have invested early in virtual reality (VR) development. However, there’s still a knowledge barrier for coding, and so the next frontier will be 360 degree videos. A new mobile app, VeeR Editor, aims to make the editing process simple and efficient without any required knowledge of best practices.

There’s already a wide selection of consumer-grade 360 degree cameras available, and Samsung in particular has undergone great effort to encourage users to share their content widely. However, there’s been little in the way of personalisation; a recorded video can easily be uploaded and shared via social media, but without that personal touch. That’s exactly what VeeR intend to change.

The VeeR Editor is in essence a straight-forward 360 degree video editor for smartphones. Available now for both iOS and Android devices, users can edit captured video directly on their handheld devices. Furthermore however, the users can also punctuate the footage with features such as adding stickers, texts, Instagram-like filters and hundreds of free soundtrack from VeeR’s music database.

A number of advanced features are also included, such as multi-clip editing, timeline re-ordering and transitions. Users can edit their captured video – or videos – directly on their smartphone and then export as a single piece of content.

In addition to videos, the VeeR Editor was recently updated to allow for the editing of 360 photos also. Users can add music, apply stickers, create slideshows, and filters to any 360 photo in the same manner as video content.

Already benefiting from over 10 million users, 5000+ creators and 20,000+ videos, the VeeR Editor content is compatible with Google Daydream, Samsung Gear VR and HTC Vive natively. Of course, the application also allows for sharing to social media with a one-click process, including platforms like VeeR VR, Facebook, Twitter, WeChat and Weibo.

The VeeR Editor is available to download for iOS and Android devices now and is free of charge. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on the VeeR Editor and other VR projects from VeeR.
