Ubisoft Reflections Working on Unannounced VR Project Job Listings Reveal

A new year always seems to bring with it the chance for new possibilities and change, which is probably why the first few months are popular for those looking to change jobs. Job listings can also be a useful source of information regarding videogame development, such as Ubisoft Reflections’ current postings for an unannounced virtual reality (VR) title.

With a 35-year history, Ubisoft Reflections has worked on some of the company’s biggest videogame IP’s including Watch Dogs Legion, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and Assassins Creed Syndicate, whilst creating its own in-house titles like the award-winning Grow Home and Grow Up series.

While other Ubisoft studios have worked on VR projects this looks to be the first for the Newcastle upon Tyne-based studio. No details have been released just yet on what the VR title might be with Ubisoft Reflections looking to fill 4 roles; Build Engineer, Lead Character Artist, Technical Artist and VFX Artist. The latter two roles do refer to the videogame as a ‘AAA VR Project’, indicating this to be a major production rather than merely a small experimental endeavour.

Ubisoft’s VR titles to date include sci-fi arena shooter Space Junkies, Transferencecollaborative experience Star Trek: Bridge Crew, social videogame Werewolves Within and Eagle Flight. The company has also made inroads into the location-based entertainment (LBE) market, with Ubisoft Blue Byte, a Dusseldorf-based studio, creating Assassin’s Creed Origins: Escape the Lost Pyramid and Beyond Medusa’s Gate for VR arcades. VRFocus reported last year that Ubisoft Blue Byte was building a 50-person strong team for a still as yet unannounced VR project.

Space Junkies

Ubisoft Reflections has quite a varied history, working across a number of genres but it does have a penchant for videogames with vehicles in, previously known for the Driver series as well as The Crew. So there’s the possibility a racing title of some sort could be on the cards, which would be rather nice.

Job listings generally tend to have a final application date, however, there isn’t one listed on any of the roles so development might be in its very early stages. If you want to know what to look forward to in 2020 take a look at our ‘Most Anticipated VR Games‘ arriving this year. As further details on the project are released VRFocus will let you know.
