Oculus Quest Jails Prison Boss VR in December

Prison Boss VR

Virtual reality (VR) specialist Trebuchet launched its first title Prison Boss VR back in 2017 for PC VR, followed by PlayStation VR. Today, the studio has announced that the crafting and trading videogame will get an Oculus Quest port next month.

Prison Boss VR

A comedic look at spending time behind bars, Prison Boss VR is all about making the most of your jail cell. This means crafting items to sell to other inmates, adding a few extra luxuries to your grey walls all the while avoiding being caught by the warden.

Using room-scale to turn your VR space into a jail cell, you’ll be able to craft items like cigarettes, alcohol and cookies to either sell to the trader, building up those cash reserves or use the items to complete jobs. Earn as much as possible to become the head honcho or buy furniture, posters and other items to create a little slice of home.

But those prison guards aren’t there for polite conversation. Any hard-earned money or contraband will need to be hidden to avoid being confiscated. So your layout needs to carefully evolve as your reputation increases. You’re not stuck in one location either, as there are four prisons and over 80 jobs to complete. Plus there are three gameplay modes to keep you busy.

Prison Boss is a title that was really built for VR with the idea of the jail cell scaling with your VR space. I’d even go as far as saying that having it come to the Quest with its untethered headset makes it the ultimate VR contraband simulator available on the market,” said Vincent Brunet-Dupont, CEO of Trebuchet in a statement.

Prison Boss VR is due to launch for the Oculus Quest platform on 3rd December 2020, retailing for $19.99 USD. Check out the announcement trailer below and for further updates keep reading VRFocus.

Craft Your own Cell When Prison Boss VR Escapes onto PlayStation VR

Indie studio Trebuchet launched its jail-based crafting and trading title Prison Boss VR in August 2017 via Steam for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality headsets. Today, the developer has announced support will be coming to PlayStation VR in December.

So you’ve gone and done something that the law doesn’t like and got yourself locked up. You can either just lay in the uncomfortable bed and try to sleep the hours away or use that time to be productive, and possibly get the respect of your fellow inmates.

As the name suggests, Prison Boss VR is all about becoming master of your own jail cell, crafting and trading to get what you want, when you want. With a single-player story mode set in four different prisons, there are 80 challenges to complete earning you reputation and cash, with which you can customise your cell and gain access to new equipment, thus taking on new jobs.

However, this is a prison after all and as an inmate you don’t have free rein to do whatever you so choose. You’ll need to keep an eye out for patrolling guards, hiding your carefully crafted things in furniture so they don’t take them away. If they do spot anything that’ll put an end to your activities.

In addition to the story mode players will also be able to unlock an Arcade Mode which challenges you with taking on task-after-task without being caught.

Prison Boss VR will be released for PlayStation VR next Tuesday 4th December. Check out Trebuchet’s new gameplay trailer below, and for any further updates, keep reading VRFocus.

‘Prison Boss VR’ Headed to PSVR Next Week, Launch Trailer Here

Prison Boss VR (2017) is a prison-themed crafting and trading game that launched on Steam for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift last August. But starting next week, PSVR owners will be able get in on the fun of clandestinely crafting tools, furniture and all sorts of things to trade your fellow inmates.

Coming December 4th to PSVR, Prison Boss VR essentially turns your room into your very own bared jail cell, replete with toilet, sink, and cupboard for hiding your rolling tobacco, papers, alcohol, self-penned erotica, and resultant stacks of money you collect along the way.

The dopey egg-shaped guards are always bounding around on patrol, so you’ll have to watch your back so they don’t bust you and take all of your hard-earned kit and cash. If you’re quick and keep your head on a swivel, you’ll be able to build your reputation, unlock new crafting items and furniture, and eventually become the prison boss.

Prison Boss VR was developed by Montréal-based indie studio Trebuchet, and currently holds a very respectable 89% rating on Steam, giving it a ‘Very Positive’ user review rating.

Studio Behind ‘Prison Boss VR’ is Kickstarting ‘Jousting Time’, Built for Spectator Interaction

Trebuchet, the Montreal-based studio behind Prison Boss VR (2017)just launched a Kickstarter campaign for a new game that places you on the back of a trusty steed and puts a lance in your free hand. The multiplayer VR jousting game, appropriately dubbed Jousting Time, is targeting SteamVR-compatible headsets including Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows VR headsets.

Trebuchet is aiming to raise $30,000 CAD ($23,400 USD) on the crowdfunding platform in an ‘all-or-nothing’ campaign that is set to last until May 2nd, 2018—meaning if they don’t hit their goal, all backers are refunded their pledge amount. If Trebuchet’s Kickstarter video is any indication (shown above and below), the game will hopefully be just as delightful and ridiculous.

As for the game itself, according to the Kickstarter page, you control your horse with the left hand, maneuver your weapon with your right, and gain speed by yelling at your horse through the VR headset. There are several weapons available besides your trusty lance including broadsword, fencing foil, mace, bow, and battleaxe. Each weapon has its own strengths and weaknesses, so understanding the specifics of each weapon and “gauging your opponent’s speed versus your own will determine who will win in the arena.”

Trebuchet is also adding a spectator mode via a web client, which will support PC and Mac at launch, and plans to also integrate community functions for Twitch streamers and viewers. Spectators will be able to vote for which weapons you want jousters to use, send emotes to show your happiness or discontent and bet on your favorite jouster to earn in-game coins which you can use to buy new reactions.

Outside of the actual gaming arena, the studio says there will also be a hub area called ‘the Feast’, a place where you hobnob with other VR jousters, launch jousting matches, and play integrated mini-games.

Estimated arrival to the lowest funding tier ($12 CAD, $9.40 USD) is slated for a November 2018 beta testing period. Higher funding tiers offer backers a shot at the game in closed alpha, which is slated to begin July 2018. Check out the Kickstarter campaign here.

Jousting Time Gives You A Lance In A Colorful Medieval Kingdom

Jousting Time Gives You A Lance In A Colorful Medieval Kingdom

One of my favorite movies is A Knight’s Tale, a highly underrated story about a medieval peasant who cons his way to knighthood winning jousting competitions against the kingdom’s most prolific knights. It stars Heath Ledger and was my first real introduction to the actor while growing up.

Now if you took that concept, made it a whimsical, colorful world that pops with personality, you’d have something along the lines of Jousting Time.

Funny enough, it’s not the first jousting game we’ve seen in VR. Way back when Valiant hit the scene with a far more realistic take on the concept, but Jousting Time is going for more of a Job Simulator vibe than anything else, which fits for the developers, Trebuchet. Previously, they released a clever puzzle game called Prison Boss.

In Jousting Time players gallop down their lane, holding a knight’s lance, with the sole intent of violently impaling (or even decapitating) their opponent. In practice though, what plays out feels and looks more like a Saturday morning cartoon than one of the most deadly things a medieval warrior can do with their spare time. Weapon choice will be crucial since they all function very differently in action.

Jousting Time was announced this week for PAX East and is currently running a Kickstarter campaign for funding. We haven’t tried the game ourselves yet, but given the team’s track record of actually releasing finished VR games we’d consider it a safe bet that the game will be completed if they reach their funding goal.

You can find out more about the game on the Kickstarter page. Trebuchet is trying to raise at least $23,272 by May 2nd and as of the time of this writing they’ve got a long ways to go. Let us know what you think down in the comments below!

Become a Prison Boss from Inside Your Cell on HTC Vive

Trebuchet’s Prison Boss VR is available to download for HTC Vive, as reported earlier this month by VRFocus, published on Steam today. In Prison Boss VR you’ll find yourself incarcerated, with your only avenue of escape to fall deeper down the rabbit whole and committing crimes while on the inside.

On your way up the inmate ranks you’ll be tasked with 80 different jobs. Completing these tasks will earn your reputation and cash, with which you can customise your cell and gain access to new equipment, thus taking on new jobs. However, discretion is important; the patrolling guards will not take too kindly to your ill-gotten gains should they be discovered.

Prison Boss VR features a Story Mode which sees you work your way through four different prisons, and also an Arcade Mode which challenges you with taking on task-after-task without being caught. Darkness is your friend, as after nightfall you can conduct your nefarious deeds with less chance of being caught.

Prison Boss VR is available to download via Steam now, priced with a 15% discount at £12.74 (GBP) for a limited time before it returns to £14.99 (GBP).  VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest virtual reality (VR) titles from Trebuchet.

Prison Boss VR Set to Break Out on with HTC Vive This Month

Independent developer Trebuchet is set to make their HTC Vive debut this month with the release of Prison Boss VR. A crafting and trading videogame using roomscale, players must create cigarettes, alcohol and cookies to sell to other inmates, build a reputation and own that prison.

As night falls on the prison, the player is able to take advantage of the utilities within their cell. Inmates will offer you tasks and, should you successfully complete them, you’ll be able to upgrade your cell with new tools and shiny things. However, it’s not as simple as making wine in your toilet; guards are patrolling and will put an end to your doings as soon as they spot your ill-gotten gains.

Learn new crafting recipes as you progress through four different jails, then escape from them. More than 80 different jobs will provide a path from scum to high score when Prison Boss VR arrives on HTC Vive.

Set to launch on 29th August 2017, Prison Boss VR will be available via Steam. No price point has yet been announced for the videogame, but VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details.
