Win a HTC Vive as Part of 2017 Dota 2 Championships

High-end virtual reality (VR) isn’t the cheapest past time to get into, every so often the big companies run a competition or two, giving away a free headset. Recently, HTC has been doing just that running a survey giveaway offering three VR systems. While that’s now ended there still another chance to grab yourself a free HTC Vive, with the company running a competition celebrating the International 2017 Dota 2 Championships.

HTC Esports sponsors both Cloud 9 and Team Liquid both of whom made it through to the championship – EU Team Liquid were the eventual champions, winning a $10.8 million USD prize.

For those who own HTC Vive (or Oculus Rift) and Dota 2, the entire event was live-streamed in VR for a second year, giving viewers up close access to the action.

If you’re keen on getting the HTC Vive then all you need to do is head to HTC’s competition page and follow the instructions. Not only will the winners get a VR system they’ll also receive one Cloud 9 Black Triblend T-Shirt and one Team Liquid Tech T-Shirt.

There are plenty of ways to enter with a total of 19 entries per person. The competition is open to those in North America, Europe, and Taiwan. Be quick mind, there’s only 11 hours left.

Dota 2 Championships will be Streamed in VR

Dota 2 began life as ‘Defence of the Ancients’ an incredibly popular mod for Blizzard’s real-time strategy title Warcraft III. In time, its popularity grew and it span off into its own separate title, Dota 2, produced by Valve. Dota 2 is one of the largest and best-known MOBA titles, which a huge fanbase of dedicated competitors. This week will see some of the best Dota 2 teams enter the International Dota 2 Championships, an event which will be streamed in virtual reality (VR).

Running from 7th-12th August, 2017 at the Keyarena in Seattle Centre, the International Dota 2 Championships will see the best teams from around the world compete against each other to claim the massive $23 million (USD) prize pool, the largest prize yet recorded for an e-sports event, breaking the previous year’s total of over $20 million.

Fans of Dota 2 and e-sports in general can tune in to the ongoing livestream via desktop, on mobile devices or by using the ‘Spectator mode’ Dota VR Hob that allows VR users to get even closer to the action. It isn’t just live action that will be available in VR, replays will also be available, so users can re-watch their favourite wins (or losses).

In order to watch the International Dota 2 Championships via VR, users will need a copy of Dota 2 on Steam and a compatible VR headset, such as Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. Under the DLC section of the Dota 2 library page, users will need to click the checkbox to enable Dota VR.
