Stealth Thriller Intruders: Hide and Seek Breaks Onto SteamVR Next Week

Indie developer Tessera Studios launched its first virtual reality (VR) compatible videogame exclusively for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR back in February. Now the team has confirmed they’ve been working on a PC port of the psychological thriller, with a launch now planned for next week.

Intruders: Hide And Seek

Supporting Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index headsets, Intruders: Hide and Seek is exactly that, a deadly game of hide and seek. The Spanish studio has turned the beloved children’s game on its head with a home invasion. You play as Ben Richter, a 13-year old boy on holiday with his family at their remote country home. One rainy night three mysterious strangers break the house and retain the Richter family as hostages, restaining both parents. You and your younger sister manage to hide. Ben must help save his parents and sister whilst at the same time figuring out who the three assailants are and what they want.

They are unaware of your presence so to succeed that must remain so. You need to move unnoticed, using the darkness to your advantage by remaining in the shadows. As the intruders are searching the house they each have a specific cone-shaped field of vision which needs to be avoided. Whilst wandering the premises being stealthy and quiet you also need to be on the lookout for any useful items, searching cupboards and draws where possible.

There are around four hours of tense gameplay to enjoy Daedalic Entertainment and Tessera Studios have said. That could increase depending on how comfortable you are sneaking around a strange house whilst avoiding dangerous intruders completely unarmed.

Intruders: Hide And Seek

Intruders: Hide and Seek will be released through Steam on 26th September 2019. The PlayStation VR version has won multiple awards like the Playstation Talent Award, SXSW 2017 Best Gaming Pitch Award, the F&S Premio Titanium award, the “Gamer´s Voice Award: Virtual Reality” at the SXSW 2019 festival and the “Best Game for the Gamelab Attendees” at Gamelab 2019.

It’s certainly going to be an interesting week to launch a VR experience with Oculus Connect 6 (OC6) taking place as well. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Intruders: Hide and Seek, reporting back with the latest updates.

VR on Next Microsoft Xbox Still Looks Unlikely States Intruders: Hide and Seek Dev

When Microsoft announced the Xbox One X – formerly Project Scorpio – back in 2016 there was much excitement thanks to its 4K capabilities and the fact that the company said the console would support virtual reality (VR). As we now know that particular feature never came to pass, with Microsoft concentrating on HoloLens and Windows Mixed Reality (WMR) headset for PC. If you thought the company might be holding off until its next generation of consoles it seems you may be disappointed from what Tessera Studios has to say.

Intruders: Hide And Seek

The Spanish studio has just released its first VR title for PlayStation VR, a psychological thriller called Intruders: Hide and Seekinvolving a family attacked in their holiday home by three strangers, where you play a teenage boy who must help free his family.

In an interview with GamingBolt, Pablo Lafora, game designer at Tessera Studios discussed the fact that when it comes to VR and Xbox, Microsoft seems to have little interest. “No matter how much I ask, I never get any news on Microsoft VR,” Lafora told the website. “Just some rumours about HoloLens 2. It seems like they don’t have much interest in VR. On one hand, it looks like right now they won’t include VR features on their next console. On the other hand… that sounds really risky. Maybe the next Xbox will be HoloLens 2 compatible? It might be, but we don’t think the console/marketing will make HoloLens the core of it all.”

This has certainly been in stark contrast to Microsoft’s main rival in the console sphere, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and its PlayStation VR headset. SIE has continually shouted about how well both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR are doing, with the latter surpassing the three million mark last year.

PlayStation VR

Now just because Microsoft isn’t saying much about its next console doesn’t mean VR might not be a feature, usually, studios will get ample time to start developing content for a hardware launch. If no VR studios have been contacted then there’s a good likelihood VR isn’t happening.

If by some miracle Microsoft does decide to support the VR industry through Xbox, then VRFocus will let you know.

Intruders: Hide and Seek Isn’t Child’s Play on PlayStation VR

Spanish indie developer Tessera Studios may have only revealed information regarding its first virtual reality (VR) title  Intruders: Hide and Seek last month, yet the videogame is already looking to be one of the more interesting releases for PlayStation VR this year. Well, today you get to try it for yourself, and to mark the launch, the studio has released a new trailer.

Intruders: Hide And Seek

The experience may already be super creepy as Tessera Studios describes it as a ‘VR psycho thriller’, the trailer then takes this to another level. Taking viewers on a tour of a house at night, a female narrator in the role of an estate agent is describing this lovely family home, talking about the rooms, marble worktops and the many other wonderful amenities, including the solitude. The fact that the family moving in won’t hear any neighbours and they definitely won’t hear them.

Intruders: Hide and Seek, as the name suggests, is all about a home invasion. On a night in the pouring rain three mysterious strangers break into a countryside vacation house and retain the Richter family as hostage. The parents restrained and younger sister hiding you are thirteen-year-old Ben, who is stuck in the house with the intruders. Only Ben can help save his parents and sister whilst at the same time figuring out who the three assailants are and what they want.

You’ll need to use the darkness to your advantage, avoiding the gaze of the intruders as they search the premises. Each step must be well planned as each of the intruders has a specific coneshaped field of vision which needs to be avoided. This isn’t just about stealth and keeping quiet, you’ll need to use the environment to hide when necessary. You’ll also need to be on the lookout for any useful times either laying around or in cupboards.

Intruders: Hide And Seek

Intruders: Hide and Seek launches today for PlayStation VR, available digitally and in stores for £15.99 GBP/€19.99 USD. The title has won multiple awards like the Playstation Talent Award, SXSW Best Gaming Pitch Award and the F&S Premio Titanium award.

Tessera Studios has also confirmed that a Steam version with VR support will be released towards the end of 2019. For further updates, keep reading VRFocus.

First Gameplay Trailer Released for PlayStation VR Title Intruders: Hide and Seek

Last month Tessera Studios and Daedalic Entertainment announced virtual reality (VR) thriller Intruders: Hide and Seek for PlayStation VR. Today, the teams have revealed gameplay footage for the first time, ahead of the title’s launch next week.

Intruders: Hide And Seek

Intruders: Hide and Seek revolves around Ben, a 13-year old who is about to experience the longest night of his life as he must not only save himself but his family as well. Starting out as a normal idyllic sunny day, Ben and his family head to their countryside holiday home, tucked away in a forest. But as night falls three strangers appear and take Ben’s parents hostage, while his younger sister manages to hide.

You will have to find a way to save your family while figuring out who the three assailants are and what they want.

While the first video was a cinematic teaser for Intruders: Hide and Seek, this second trailer showcases the gameplay in a lot more detail, with you having to use the shadows to move around the large house, as the intruders continue their search. This isn’t just about stealth and keeping quiet, you’ll need to use the environment to hide when necessary. You’ll also need to be on the lookout for any useful times either laying around or in cupboards or draws.

Intruders: Hide And Seek

Daedalic Entertainment and Tessera Studios have said there will be around four hours of tense gameplay for PlayStation VR owners to enjoy, as long as you don’t mind sneaking around a creepy house completely defenceless. Intruders: Hide and Seek has already won several awards like the Playstation Talent Award, SXSW Best Gaming Pitch Award and the F&S Premio Titanium award.

Intruders: Hide and Seek will be arriving for PlayStation VR next Wednesday, 13th February 2019. A price on PlayStation Store has yet to be revealed. Tessera Studios has also confirmed that the videogame will be released on Steam with VR support at a later date, no headsets were mentioned in the press release. Check out the new gameplay trailer for the title below, and for any further updates ahead of launch, as always, keep reading VRFocus.

Stealth Thriller Intruders: Hide and Seek Coming to PlayStation VR Next Month

If you’re not that interested in flying fighter jets when Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown arrives at the end of the week then there’s always plenty of other PlayStation VR videogames to look forward to. The latest to be unveiled come from Tessera Studios in a first-person stealth experience called Intruders: Hide and Seek, due for launch in February.

Intruders: Hide And Seek

Intruders: Hide and Seek is very much as the title describes, you play as Ben a 13-year old who’s about to have the worst night of his life. Ben and his family have headed to their home on the outskirts of town, nicely hidden away in the forest where it’s quiet and far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

While normally an idyllic location, Ben’s home soon turns into a nightmare when intruders break in one evening and kidnap his family. Luckily they don’t know you’re there, so it’s up to you to save your family by any means necessary, staying in the shadows and moving around unheard.

Sounding like a much darker, scarier version of beloved child stuck at home movie Home Alone, where there no madcap pranks to pull, Intruders: Hide and Seek goes for psychological terror instead. Tessera Studios has yet to reveal some of the more in-depth gameplay elements, VRFocus assumes you’ll be hiding in cupboards – or anything else you can open – to evade the intruders, but what happens should you get caught, is that just game over?

Intruders: Hide And Seek

Tessera Studios is another Spanish developer who has had a helping hand thanks to PlayStation Talents – VRFocus previously reported on World Domination Project announcing its PlayStation VR title Anyone’s Diary – which helps nurture indie developers. Intruders: Hide and Seek won the Fun & Serious award for the Best University Project of the year in 2016, as well as PlayStation Talents best game for the Press Award, and the PlayStation Talents Best Game of the Year Award.

Intruders: Hide and Seek is exclusive the PlayStation VR, due for launch on 13th February 2019. Check out the first trailer for the title below, and for further updates ahead of launch, keep reading VRFocus.
