VR Arcades Will be Able to Showcase Targo’s Immersive Documentaries Using Synthesis VR

Targo is a specialist in virtual reality (VR) documentaries, tending to distribute its content via apps like Samsung VR, InceptionVR, Oculus Video and LittlStar for a range of headsets. To broaden that content delivery even further the company has now partnered with Synthesis VR to enter the VR arcade market.

Synthesis VR is a location-based entertainment (LBE) content and licensing platform which is currently used in over 120 locations worldwide with over 150 experiences in its catalogue. Thanks to the new partnership Synthesis VR will now be able to offer its customers all of Targo’s immersive documentaries no matter where they are.

The trend in LBE content tends to focus purely on interactive content, whether that’s single-player experiences or multiplayer mashups. As the industry expands and diversifies there has been a growing demand for travel, educational, documentary and journalism experiences from customers.

“Though VR locations and arcades have been focused on gaming, there has been a pivot and more locations and consumers are interested in experiences and non-gaming content in the past few months,” said A Shabeer Sinnalebbe, CEO of Synthesis VR in a statement.

TARGO

“With this partnership, we want to offer arcades the tools to reach everyone, beyond the gamers. There are still so many people who don’t know that VR can be used for documentaries,” adds Victor Agulhon, CEO of TARGO.

VR Arcades need to stay fresh a vibrant, hosting not only popular videogames but new and revolving content. As such, Targo and Synthesis VR will be releasing a new documentary each month for the platform, which should help attract new customers and retaining existing customers.

Remember, if you prefer watching VR documentaries at home you still can very easily. In November 2018 Targo released its very own free app for Oculus Go, allowing users to view all of the films created so far. Or for those that own an HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR, Google Daydream, Samsung Gear VR or Windows Mixed Reality headset there’s always one of the other apps previously mentioned. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Targo, reporting back with the latest content and expansion updates.

TARGO to Bring Original Documentaries to Oculus Go

When Oculus CTO John Carmack gave his keynote address during Oculus Connect 5 (OC5) he mentioned that Oculus Rift was used more as a gaming platform while Oculus Go users tended to consume more entertainment media – films and TV shows. TARGO, a virtual reality (VR) media company which creates original documentaries used to distribute its content via apps like Samsung VR, InceptionVR, CineVR, Oculus Video and LittlStar. Now, the company has revealed it’ll be launching its own dedicated app for the standalone headset.

TARGO

The app will allow TARGO to distribute its own content how and when it likes, which will see two original pieces of content being released a week. “It’s an important milestone for TARGO that will increase our visibility among VR users and allow us to connect directly with our audience,” says Victor Agulhon, TARGO co-founder in a statement.

TARGO has built a reputation releasing fascinating and magnetic documentaries on unsuspected topics: tractor racing competition, real-life ghost hunting, a freefall dancer, which it hopes will encourage more users to download the app. “We have identified a type of content that really fits virtual reality in terms of format and narratives,” says Chloé Rochereuil, TARGO editor-in-chief.

At the same time, TARGO’s content will still be available on those other apps they just might not get the very latest documentaries as those new releases will be shown first via the dedicated app. The main benefit with apps like InceptionVR is that it supports a wider range of devices including HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Go, PlayStation VR Google Daydream, Samsung Gear VR and Windows Mixed Reality.

New VR Documentaries Now Arriving Twice A Week On Inception Via Targo

New VR Documentaries Now Arriving Twice A Week On Inception Via Targo

We love VR documentaries here at UploadVR. Showcases like the Alternate Realities Arcade at Sheffield Doc/Fest prove that this can be one of the most compelling uses of the platform. Good news for doc lovers, then: a steady stream of them are now rolling out on one of VR’s biggest video apps.

Free video service, Inception, this month announced a partnership with VR media company, Targo, to bring a new VR documentary to the platform every two weeks. A selection of the company’s content is already available including Into the White, which follows a young French explorer as he trains to cross Antarctica and The Hot Air Balloon Family, which is exactly what it sounds like. Other videos will have you undergoing a spiritual journey in French forests, attending special pigeon races and exploring one of the largest miniature train sets in the world today.

The documentaries are in French so you’ll have to make good use of the video’s subtitles. Still, it’s great to see a steady stream of engaging VR content like this now arriving on a regular schedule.

Inception is available on pretty much every VR headset under the sun including Oculus Rift, Oculus Go, Gear VR, Google Daydream, HTC Vive, Windows VR, and PSVR. If you don’t have a device then you can get it on iOS and Android too. Inception’s content is also available on YouTube, one of which we’ve embedded above.

Targo Thinks 360 VR News can be Interactive and Fun

During Cannes Film Festival, Targo showed VRFocus‘s Nina Salomons that 360-degree virtual reality (VR) news does not have to slow or boring. Instead, it can be short, informative and exist on media platforms that already support 360 films such as Facebook, Twitter and Vimeo. CEO and Co-Founder of Targo, Victor Agulhon believes that existing news outlets and broadcasters haven’t quite gotten how to make the best out of 360 films yet.

Agulhon believes Targo has found a solution by combining informative graphics with a quick post-production workflow to make the most interactive pieces of news. At the moment the team is made up of four individuals that are based in Paris. They’re building a Newslab this summer to make the most out of info graphics, photos and videos in 360 to make it more attractive for consumers online. As more platforms support 360 video content, it will be interesting to see how Targo will try and monetize their content. Find out more the video below.
