PlayStation VR Edition of Swords of Gargantua Postponed

Swords of Gargantua

Back in April Japanese developer Yomuneco Inc. announced its 2020 road map for Swords of Gargantua, detailing Spring, Summer and Fall updates. While the Spring Lounge update occurred, all the rest have been postponed which includes the PlayStation VR version.

Swords of Gargantua

No date had been set for the launch on PlayStation VR, just that it would be taking place this summer. Like many virtual reality (VR) developers who have had to adjust to local lockdowns due to COVID-19, this has had an impact on production.

The studio made the announcement on its Discord channel, saying: “We have decided to postpone the release date of the PSVR version of Sword of Gargantua, PvP mode and Ooparts Labyrinth.

“The reason behind the postponement is due to a major revision of the development plan due to the impact of prolonged COVID pandemic. As well as future development, we are also working on quality improvements to the currently released version of the game.”

Swords of Gargantua

Both the PvP mode and Ooparts Labyrinth were set to extensively expand Swords of Gargantua, allowing players to fight one another in arenas for the first time rather than purely AI opponents. While Ooparts Labyrinth would provide a procedurally-generated labyrinth for up to four players to explore, racing to collect the hidden Ooparts whilst battling monsters.

At the moment the team don’t have a release window for when these updates and PlayStation VR support will arrive, hopefully, they won’t all be pushed into next year at this rate.

If you’ve not heard of Swords of Gargantua the videogame is a physical sword fighting experience with solo and co-op modes. It challenges players to face hordes of armoured warriors, blocking, parrying, and attacking deadly foes with a mixture of weapons in a bid to face the Gargantua. These can range from faster sword and shield combos to the heavier but more powerful two-handed swords. There’s also a magical element where you can power up your weapons for extra damage.

Swords of Gargantua is currently available for Oculus RiftOculus QuestValve Index, HTC Vive, Vive Cosmos and Windows Mixed Reality headsets. As further details are made public VRFocus will let you know.

Modding Platform mod.io Expands Into VR Initially Supporting Two Games

Contractors

Modding can be a big part of videogame communities on PC, ranging from small stuff like new weapon skins to entire levels made over in a different theme. Titles like Half-Life: Alyx actively encourage it and now popular modding platform mod.io has officially announced its support for virtual reality (VR).

Swords of Gargantua

To begin with, mod.io will support two VR titles, Swords of Gargantua and Contractors. The former announced the rollout of mod support last week, giving both PC VR and Oculus Quest players the chance to customize various in-game parameters such as adjusting enemy, player and weapon stats as well as creating enemy waves. On mod.io there are currently 32 mods available for the sword fighting experience.

As for Contractors, a team-based military-style first-person shooter (FPS), modders are able to create new maps, guns and game modes, mixing them up to create unique combat scenarios. At the moment there are 24 mods for Contractors on mod.io.

“We’re excited that mods for VR games like Swords of Gargantua, Contractors VR as well as Valve’s Half-Life: Alyx (which uses Workshop) are gaining traction… Modding has always been a source of significant creativity, so it’s interesting to contemplate what innovation will come from this,” said Scott Reismanis CEO of mod.io in a statement.

Contractors

Hopefully, this will see not only more mods for those aforementioned titles but also adding further ones to the roster. Half-Life: Alyx is expected to dominate the scene now that Steam Workshop support has been added – there are already well over 300 mods for the videogame.

mod.io is cross-platform so it’ll support Steam, Oculus and Viveport titles, while for modders there are open source plugins for game engines like Unity and Unreal Engine.

As more developers add mod support to there projects, VRFocus will keep you updated.

Swords of Gargantua Celebrates First Anniversary With Updates & Design Competition

Swords of Gargantua

A year ago this week Japanese developer Yomuneco Inc. released its stylish sword-fighting title Swords of Gargantua for PC VR headsets and Oculus Quest. Gearing up for a summer of content updates, today the studio has released the first as well as announcing a competition for fans.

Swords of Gargantua

Yomuneco Inc. revealed its update plans back in April, with the first to arrive being the online lounge where 8 players can socialize and join games together. In conjunction with Swords of Gargantua’s native voice chat, the lounge will also include emotes to add a fun, expressive dynamic.

Players will now get their hands on two new one-handed swords, Suzaku and Phoenix. The former specialising in attack power while the latter is more suited to defense. As such, wielding them both should offer a dangerous combination. To access them, players will need to participate in in-game events between now and 26th June.

The final content addition is a beta MOD mode. Previously only available in alpha for PC VR players, the mode allows a player to customize in-game parameters such as attack, movement speed, or customizing enemy wave types. With the move into beta Oculus Quest players can also access MOD mode.

Swords of Gargantua

“On June 7, 2020, ‘Swords of Gargantua’ will be one year old. We were able to reach the first anniversary thanks to all the fans who continued playing,” said Yomuneco Co-Founder and CSO Kiyoshi Shin in a statement. The way you are playing has always encouraged the development team and provided us with new discoveries and challenges. We will continue to do our best to meet your expectations. We hope that you will continue to play and support us to create a future for VR that does not yet exist.”

Adding to the celebrations, Yomuneco Inc. will launch a Shield Design Competition on 5th June so that one fan of Swords of Gargantua will get their design put into the videogame. To do so apply on the official website or head to the Discord channel for further info.

As for further updates, the studio has two more mystery weapons to announce and the PlayStation VR release is still expected this summer, although that could slip depending on the pandemic situation.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Swords of Gargantua, reporting back with further updates.

Become a Blade Master in These 6 Ultimate VR Sword Fighting Games

Swords of Gargantua

Virtual reality (VR) has proven to be a technology which excels at plenty of videogame genre’s, especially when it comes to physical interaction. One of the best examples of this is melee combat, whether that’s hand to hand or using weapons. And who doesn’t love being embroiled in some fantasy adventure where survival comes down to how well you can swing a sword. So here is VRFocus’ favourite VR sword fighting examples.

Until You Fall

This is a list all about bladed combat, going toe to toe with enemies in a battle of wits and endurance. So that means titles like Beat Saber will be excluded as while they do feature flashy swords you’re not dueling in any way.

Until You Fall

A title that’s still in Early Access for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index, Until You Fall is the latest from Schell Games.

Offering a highly stylized experience that pulls no punches, Until You Fall arms you with a selection of weapons, from short swords to knives and axes. The aim is to get as far as possible without dying, death resetting the areas, enemy locations and more, for a different experience each time.

Schell Games might have added a storyline and magical qualities to enhance various character attributes but the main draw is still the combat. Most areas split enemies up so it’s mostly 1v1, allowing you to charge in and do some serious damage. Opponents attacks are indicated to aid blocking, whilst you can break their guard and unleash powerful specialised blows. One of the most visually arresting titles here.

Swords of Gargantua

While Until You Fall was purely single-player, Yomuneco Inc’s. Swords of Gargantua provides both solo and multiplayer gameplay to keep players entertained.

A fast-paced rogue-lite action experience, Swords of Gargantua focuses on realistic swordplay for one to four players, blocking, parrying, and attacking deadly foes with a mixture of over 30 weapons. You have to fight though101 floors of enemies to reach the colossal end-boss, Gargantua.

Currently supporting PC VR headsetswith PlayStation VR and Oculus Quest in the works – the studio has added and continues to add plenty of content for when you’ve completed the main quest.

Swords of Gargantua

Ironlights

A pure PvP dueler, Ironlights by indie developer E McNeill is one of the more unusual combat titles on this list but shouldn’t be overlooked.

Supporting PC VR headsets as well as Oculus Quest, Ironlights is about thoughtful use of the weapons provided, rather than all-out action and flailing wildly. You can choose from a selection of characters each with a close combat weapon as well as a ranged attack.

The trick with Ironlights is that combat takes place in slow motion and weapons instantly break when they make contact, continually needing to be replenished by swinging them behind your back.

Ironlights is another title which offers both solo and online play, with the single-player campaign providing seven levels to unlock across Bronze, Silver and Gold leagues.

Blade & Sorcery

Another Early Access title which has built a loyal following thanks to its gameplay, Blade & Sorcery is a medieval fantasy sandbox for all your bladed combat needs.

Blade & Sorcery does feature ranged and magic combat but its the sheer selection of medieval weaponry, the full-body physics and the way you can be creative in combat that makes the experience so much fun.

Supporting PC headsets like Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index, Blade & Sorcery is continually updated by developer WarpFrog so you can be sure there’s always something to do.

Blade & Sorcery

Gorn

Probably the most ridiculous VR videogame on here, if you’re looking for anime levels of blood and gore then Gorn is it.

The opponents might be spongy, rag-doll gladiators but they can put up a fight and in the small arena you need to as well. Weapons wobble all over the place but this ain’t no cartoon, hack arms off, smash skulls in and paint the place red with claret, in this single-player hack ‘n’ slash.

It’s on PC headsets like Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index with a PlayStation VR version arriving 19th May.

Shadow Legend VR

Time for an actual story-driven VR adventure, with castles, knights, ancient evil and of course a sword in Shadow Legend VR.

As the Grand Master of the Knights Templar, it’s up to you to save your kingdom of Anaria from the destruction of Lord Adaroth. Shadow Legend VR is great for those who want more context to their battles, rather than pure brutish arena battles.

With interwoven RPG elements the videogame provides an entertaining medieval adventure across both PC and PlayStation VR headsets. The action isn’t quite as finessed as others on this list but there are still epic boos fights and hidden secrets to find.

Swords of Gargantua Road Map Reveals Upcoming PvP Battles and Ooparts Labyrinth Quest

For those who love sword fighting in virtual reality (VR) Sword of Gargantua by Japanese developer Yomuneco Inc. aims to provide one of the most realistic experiences across a wide variety of headsets. Today, the studio has revealed its plans for future updates throughout 2020, with plenty of new content scheduled to arrive.

Swords of Gargantua

Last month Yomuneco Inc. announced PlayStation VR support would be coming this spring but it does have more in store this season. An alpha Mod Mode using the Mod.io platform will be rolled out for PC-based players, allowing them to modify in-game parameters, such as speed and strength, as well as create custom waves to alter the challenges. This feature will also come to Oculus Quest in the future.

Additionally, this spring will see a social area called the Lounge arrive so that up to 10 warriors can hangout after a long day of killing giants.

That will be followed in the summer by the Duels of Gargantua beta test, a PvP mode where players can enter an arena to fights other human opponents. The Mod Mode customization will be expanded as well, enabling players to import fan-made weapon and character models and utilize them in epic battles against the Gargantua. These weapons and models can only be utilised in this particular mode.

Swords of Gargantua

Onto the third and final road map plan, this autumn will see the largest content update land, the OOParts Labyrinth. This new mode offers four players the chance to infiltrate a procedurally-generated labyrinth, fighting monsters in a quest to collect the hidden Ooparts. There will be a new boss to fight and players will gain access to new ranged attacks like magic and bows.

Whether solo or in co-op, Swords of Gargantua challenges players to face hordes of armoured enemies, blocking, parrying, and attacking deadly foes with a mixture of weapons. These can range from faster sword and shield combos to the heavier but more powerful two-handed swords.

Swords of Gargantua is currently available for Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, Valve Index, HTC Vive, Vive Cosmos and Windows Mixed Reality headsets. As further updates are released, VRFocus will let you know.

Swords of Gargantua Is Getting PvP And A New Boss Post-PSVR Release

The long-awaited PSVR port won’t mark the end for Yomuneco’s Swords of Gargantua.

Announced in the developer’s 2020 roadmap today, the sword-swinging rouge-lite VR game is getting competitive multiplayer and a new boss fight and enemy types. These will arrive after the PSVR port of the game goes live later this Spring.

Also coming this Spring is a modifier mode on PC that will allow you to change certain parameters, and a Lounge area for friends to hang out in between levels. It supports up to 10 players. A Quest version of the modifier mode will arrive later down the line.

Then, this Summer, Swords of Gargantua launches its player versus player (PvP) mode, Duels of Gargantua, in beta. Plus the modifier mode will get support for user-made weapons and character models.

Teased for this Fall, though, is Ooparts Labyrinth, billed as the game’s biggest update yet. It will include a new quest for up to four players to tackle, filled with new enemies and a new boss fight. Plus this update will introduce ranged weapons into the game for the first time.

Swords of Gargantua Update

We’ll be really looking forward to playing the game’s PvP mode, given combat against standard NPCs in Swords of Gargantua can be a lot of fun. You can keep up-to-date with the developer’s work on this mode and more on an official Discord channel.

Plenty to look forward to in Swords of Gargantua, then. For now we’re just looking forward to seeing how the PSVR version of the game turns out. Hopefully it’s not too much longer until release.

Watch: Swords of Gargantua Hits PSVR This Spring, Trailer Here

Developer Gumi is doubling down on the PSVR release of its sword-swinging rougelite VR game, Swords of Gargantua. To prove it, there’s a new trailer and a new launch window for the game: late spring.

The trailer showcases a lot of gameplay, though that’s hardly surprising given Swords of Gargantua has been out on PC VR and Oculus Quest headsets for a while now. It does at least cut between people playing (or looking like they’re playing) on Sony’s new headset.

Elsewhere, Gumi confirms that the PSVR version of the game will cost $29.99 and retain the four player co-op multiplayer seen in the original versions.

In Swords of Gargantua, players take the fight to intimidating enemies. Rogue-lite action sees levels change as you move between floors, making no two playthroughs the same. We haven’t reviewed it yet but the game carries a 4.1 user rating on Quest. We’ll try and bring you some impressions for this version when it arrives later this year.

Spring runs right up until mid-June, so we’re probably a few months away from its release, still. That’s not too big of an issue, though, as PSVR has a busy few weeks lined up with the launch of games like The Room VR, Down The Rabbit Hole and FORM. Then, in May, there’s Iron Man VR to look forward to. Plenty to tide you over while your sword arm gets itchy, then.

Do Battle in Swords of Gargantua on PlayStation VR This Spring

PlayStation VR already has a solid catalogue of videogames to choose from with that set to improve over the next couple of months. The latest virtual reality (VR) title to confirm upcoming support is Swords of Gargantua by Japanese developer Yomuneco Inc. with a release scheduled for the end of Spring.

Swords of Gargantua

A fast-paced rogue-lite action experience, Swords of Gargantua focuses on realistic swordplay for one to four players. The core experience challenges players to face hordes of armoured enemies as they try to make it all the way to the end and face the final boss, the mighty Gargantua.

Players will be able to test their swordsmanship, blocking, parrying, and attacking deadly foes with a mixture of weapons. Whether that’s using a sword and shield combo with a fast, light sword or going for a much heavier and more powerful (but slower) weapon. There are over 30 to choose from which can also be magically embued to increase the damage.

When the studio introduced theTesseract Abyss update to Swords of Gargantua at the end of 2019 an adventure mode was introduced adding new gameplay options. Introducing role-playing game (RPG) elements where players can level up their characters, stats can be improved through fighting and collecting coins to enhance attributes like HP and strength. All the weapons, items, coins and stat upgrades collected through each gameplay session can be permanently kept, while excess weapons can be combined to make stronger versions to aid in those harder difficult battles.

Swords of Gargantua

The coins can also be used for temporary buffs called Artifacts. Artifacts cans boost stats such as strength or health, with up to four weapons and Artifacts able to be taken into each battle.

Swords of Gargantua is slated to arrive by the end of Spring, a little ambiguous, that would make the launch window the end of May into June. When a date is set it’ll be available through the PlayStation Store globally, supporting English, Japanese and Chinese for $29.99 USD. Take a look at the new PlayStation VR trailer below and for further updates on the sword fighting title, keep reading VRFocus.

Souls-Esque VR Combat Game Swords Of Gargantua Coming To PSVR

Here’s another PSVR title to add to your list; dark fantasy action game, Swords of Gargantua, is coming to the platform.

That much was confirmed in a recent tweet by one of the game’s developers, tweeting a picture of the headset.

Developed by Yomuneco, Swords of Gargantua is a first-person sword combat game with rogue-lite elements. You storm a tower filled with hordes of intimidating enemies, improving skills as you go. The game can be played in either single-player or with up to two other friends in co-op. Late last year, the game got a free update adding an adventure mode named Tesseract Abyss.

Yomuneco is hoping to have the PSVR version of the game out before the end of spring, so keep your eyes peeled for a full release date. You’ll need two Move controllers to play it, though.

We once said that the game was about as close to Dark Souls as VR has gotten so far. “There’s rare heft to Gargantua’s combat. Your items won’t simply phase through each other, for example, instead dragging along each other and preventing any kind of maniacal arm-swinging,” we wrote. “They don’t feel like they slice so much as batter, with damage coming from the crash of connecting with heavily-plated armor.”

As for fears about how the game might shape up on the PS4 hardware we wouldn’t worry too much; Yomuneco released a Quest version in 2019. If it can run on Facebook’s standalone it shouldn’t have any trouble running on PSVR.
