Oculus Begins ‘Summer of Rift’ Sale, $100 Credit for Rift & Touch Bundle Buyers

Oculus have announced they will be offering up to 60% price reductions on over 30 titles across the Oculus Store for the Rift and Gear VR from June 16th until July 5th. In addition, between now and June 24th, customers purchasing a Rift and Touch bundle will receive $100 in Store credit.

Detailed on the official Oculus blog, the ‘Summer of Rift’ comprises more than just a sale – there will be special events, game launches and announcements too. While no specific prices have been revealed, the team are promising bundles for The Unspoken, SUPERHOT VR and The Climb for the Rift and Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, Rangi, and Dark Days for Gear VR. Price cuts to Oculus Touch game Wilson’s Heart and Gear VR’s Anshar Wars are also expected.

It’s a great time to buy Rift and Touch hardware, as the $100 Oculus Store credit could provide newcomers with a serious library from the outset, adding to the bundled titles you get for free, such as Dead and Buried, Medium, and Robo Recall. Amazon is participating in the deal across five territories, plus Best Buy and Newegg in the US, along with FNAC in France, MediaMarkt, Saturn, and Caseking in Germany, and Scan and Game in the UK.

E3 2017: Superhot VR’s PSVR Trailer Shows Why You Need It

E3 2017: Superhot VR’s PSVR Trailer Shows Why You Need It

Just ahead of Monday’s PlayStation E3 press conference we learned that popular VR first-person shooter, Superhot VR, was on the way to PlayStation VR (PSVR). This new trailer shows you why that’s a very good thing.

Superhot VR has already released on the Oculus Rift and, more recently, the HTC Vive, and gathered praise from critices and fans alike. UploadVR itself gave the game 9/10 in our review, calling it a “pure, distilled, injection of unadulterated adrenaline”. This trailer is full of similiarly idealic quotes about the violent shooter, in which time moves only when the player does.

Superhot VR hits PSVR this summer. Best catch some sun before this one takes up all your time.

‘Superhot VR’ is Coming to PSVR This Week

Sony’s E3 press conference saw a rush of reveals coming to the company’s PlayStation 4 headset PSVR, including a full release of Skyrim VR coming in November and a list of VR exclusives soon to follow. Among them is the stylized and the ever so cool Superhot VR (2016) finally coming to PSVR.

Update 07/18: updated exact release date.

While currently only available on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive since its initial release back in December, Superhot VR is officially coming to PlayStation VR on 19th July in Europe, and on 21st July in North America, launching alongside Superhot for PS4. Both PS4 game and PSVR-only Superhot VR will cost $24.99 separately, or together in a ‘Mind is Software’ bundle for $39.99.

Reviewing on Oculus Rift with Touch, we rated Superhot VR a solid 9.1/10. It’s a seriously fun title that gives you a bullet-time mechanic that translates phenomenally well to VR. Like a living puzzle, each bullet/punch/explosion is an opportunity to feel like the action hero-badass you always wished you were. While there isn’t much of a story to follow, it’s certainly an unabashedly unique and heart-pumping game currently out for VR headsets. Despite only clocking in at a little over 2 hours of gameplay, it’s one of those games you’ll pick up again and again, if only to show your friends just how cool you can feel while grabbing a pistol out of a bad guy’s hand, shattering another guy with a punch and shooting down a row of the offending crystalline red guys from across the room.

After playing the Oculus version of Superhot VR, Road to VR Executive Editor Ben Lang had this to say:

Every movement matters. Every pull of the trigger counts. My body is anchored inside the virtual world because I have to dodge punches, knives, and bullets—it’s interacting with me in a significant way. Enemies aim well, and you have to dodge better to stay alive. Like Neo stopping the bullets for the first time at the end of The Matrix, I wanted to be able to hold up my hand and say “No,” to what I knew in an instant was the end of the game that had come a bit too soon. But, despite my training, I was not The One.

We haven’t seen pre-order up for the PSVR version of Superhot VR yet, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled and update as more info comes in.

Action Shooter SUPERHOT VR Coming To PlayStation VR This Summer

Just before Sony’s E3 2017 press conference, Sony’s pre-show revealed a few titles hitting PlayStation 4 in the near future, with SUPERHOT VR making an appearance. The title has been confirmed for PlayStation VR, and will launch this Summer.

SUPERHOT VR has been available to PC owners for a while now, playable on both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift – and now, finally the bullet-time simulator makes its VR debut on console.

SUPERHOT VR is described by the dev team, SUPERHOT Team, as; “the definitive VR FPS in which time moves only when you move. No regenerating health bars. No conveniently placed ammo drops. It’s just you, outnumbered and outgunned, grabbing the weapons of fallen enemies to shoot, slice, and manoeuvre through a hurricane of slow-motion bullets.”

The game will be launching for PlayStation VR in “a couple of weeks” – so we can assume August at the latest.

SUPERHOT had heaps of critical acclaim at launch, and its VR version received equal praise. We can only assume the PlayStation VR version will be equally beloved.

The SUPERHOT Team have a great sense of humour too – if you haven’t already, make sure to watch the trailer for SUPERHOT’s HTC Vive release.

SUPERHOT VR goes Classical for its HTC Vive Launch Trailer

If you didn’t know already SUPERHOT VR launched on HTC Vive this past week, ending its exclusivity with Oculus Touch. The team behind the award-winning title naturally released a new launch trailer to promote the title, taking some classical music and mixing the slow-motion action into one awesome video.

VRFocus readers should know what SUPERHOT VR is all about – there have been plenty of articles on it – but essentially its a first-person shooter that’s entirely in slow-mo, only when a player moves do things start to speed up. So this means lots a Matrix style bullet dodging as they shoot enemies, or grab an ashtray or bottle to fling in their faces.

All of which is beautifully surmised in this new trailer, showcasing the inventive use of ranged and melee options to work through the levels. Enemies only take one hit to kill but the same goes for you. If that happens you’re sent back to the start of the level to try (and try) again. The HTC Vive release also includes the SUPERHOT Forever update that includes more content to flesh out the videogame further. These include the 10-minute Challenge which requires the entire experience to be completed in that time frame.

Checkout the trailer below, and for any further updates to SUPERHOT VR, keep reading VRFocus.

VRTV Weekly Roundup: Microsoft AR, Google Daydream and Oculus Rift

Celebrate Thursday and the approaching weekend with the latest edition of the VRTV roundup covering all the hottest news from the past seven days. This week sees some news from Microsoft, Google and Oculus.

The last week has seen details of the upcoming updates and enhancements to Google’s Daydream platform which is incorporating social features like YouTube co-watching, plus Microsoft researchers producing a prototype of AR glasses that don’t look silly. Oculus is also working on an update for Gear VR that will bring in a new dashboard and also an upgrade for Oculus room-scale support.

Check out the full video recap below.

Superhot VR Hits HTC Vive This Thursday

Superhot VR Hits HTC Vive This Thursday

Vive owners — rejoice! The teasing is over as one of the absolute best Oculus Rift with Touch games we’ve seen so far is finally releasing on the HTC Vive through Steam this Thursday, May 25th. The standard price of Superhot VR is $24.99 but it will only cost $19.99 during the first week of release.

And to make the launch even sweeter, if you already own the original non-VR game, Superhot, then you get a discount on top of the launch week discount as well.

In Superhot VR time only moves when you do. That means that if you stand perfectly still then all of the bullets, bodies, and debris in the air freeze and nothing starts moving again until you do. It creates a wonderful feeling of power in that you control all of time and space with your body movements and turns what otherwise looks like a relatively low-poly action game into one of the most inventive, unique, and cerebral puzzle games we’ve ever seen.

You can read more about the game in our full review and our assessment of the Forever Update that released after the game’s initial launch.

SUPERHOT VR Coming to HTC Vive This Week

A few weeks ago the team behind SUPERHOT VR released a teasing tweet showing just a logo, the HTC Vive logo to be precise, without going into any further details. That wait is almost over with the studio finally confirming a release date for SUPERHOT VR, 25th May 2017.

Originally an exclusive release for Oculus Rift and Touch, SUPERHOT VR will launch on Steam for both headsets. The release will include the SUPERHOT Forever update that launched in March. That saw the addition of 20+ hours of new replayable challenges, achievements and hardcore endless levels. Challenges include the 10-minute challenge, which as the name states requires players to complete the title in 10 minutes, trying to complete the game without shooting, Headshots only, make sure enemies are hit right between the eyes (if they had any); Time Trial, racing against best scores in both in-game time (slowed down) and real-time; Don’t Shoot, for those that love melee combat; Hardcore Mode, where enemies are faster and players reaction time is reduced; and Don’t Die, with death taking players back to the start of the entire game.

superhot vr - first screenshots 8

If you’ve been living under a rock and missed all of VRFocus’ SUPERHOT VR coverage, the title is essentially a first-person shooter (FPS) with the player able to use melee weapons or just their fists to complete each level. There’s just one small cravat – and what makes the whole videogame unique – is that everything runs in slow motion when you’re stationary. Move to grab a gun and time will start to speed up. See a bullet or bullets coming your way, then stay still to workout the best course of action so you don’t get shot. Get hit and you return to the last checkpoint.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of SUPERHOT VR, reporting back with the latest updates.
