Sublevel Zero Redux Update Adds new Content and VR Support

SigTrap Games’ 6 degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) shooter Sublevel Zero supported Oculus Rift in an early beta form back in 2016, but with a new update today that support has been officially rolled out to the headset as well as HTC Vive.

While the title was originally called Sublevel Zero, the studio has renamed the videogame Sublevel Zero Redux due to the size of the update released today. Alongside full VR support loads of new content has been added. This includes a remastered campaign, with unlockable levels and harder modes; expanded procedural generation adding over 70 new rooms; new enemies with additional elite variants of existing enemies; new localisation options and a whole lot more.

Lead programmer Dr Luke Thompson said in a statement: “We created the first outline of Sublevel Zero at a game jam, as a love letter to games we grew up with like Descent and Forsaken. From the start we knew it would be awesome in VR, and though it’s taken us a while to finalise support we think it’s been worth the wait.”

While lead artist Gary Lloyd commented: “We’re really excited about the upcoming release of Sublevel Zero Redux on PC. It’s been great to see such a positive response from the community and we can’t wait to see what people think of the extra content.”

Sublevel Zero Redux is available through Steam, GOG and Humble for both existing Sublevel Zero players and new players. The price remains at $14.99 USD, with a one week 35 percent launch sale.

Zero-G Shooter Sublevel Zero Getting Full VR Support

Developer Sigtrap Games has announced that shooter Sublevel Zero will be receiving a large update on PC, Mac and Linux to upgrade the title to the expansion Sublevel Zero Redux; an update which will fully implement virtual reality (VR) support for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Sublevel Zero is a space shooter where the player takes command of a gunship with a mission to loot other ships and craft technology. A vast underground facility is available to explore and fight through, with procedurally-generated environments rendered in zero gravity for a full 6DoF experience. Items available to unlock such as blueprints, levels and more powerful enemies to face in subsequent playthroughs.

The title will receive a fully remastered campaign, along with new enemies and unlocks and a hidden weapon that dedicated players will be able to find. Difficulty settings have been revamped to allow experienced players more of a challenge. An extra 70 procedurally generated rooms have been added, along with more enemy types and elite enemies for an extra challenge.

Lead artist Gary Lloyd said in a statement: “We’re bringing all the new content, features and extras from the console version back to PC, Mac and Linux, absolutely free, to say thank you to all our dedicated fans. And we’re really excited to be releasing VR support!”

“We created the first outline of Sublevel Zero at a game jam, as a love letter to games we grew up with like Descent and Forsaken. Since then an amazing community has formed around the game, and we’re so pleased to be able to bring back the console content for free as a thank you to the gamers who have supported us all the way,” added lead programmer Dr Luke Thompson.

Sublevel Zero Redux will launch on the Oculus Store on 13th July 2017 along with the update, which will be available through Steam, GOG and Humble for both existing Sublevel Zero players and new players. The price will remain at $14.99 (USD).

Sublevel Zero Finally Gets Full Rift/Vive Support In July

Sublevel Zero is one of those games that strikes you as perfect for VR support, so much so that it already has some basic integration. Deeper support will be with us very soon, however.

Developer Sigtrap Games today announced that Sublevel Zero Redux is coming to PC on July 13th. That was the name given to the recent console version of the game, which included more content. All of that content will be coming to the PC version as a free update in July. Check out a brief teaser below.

Sublevel Zero is a six degrees of freedom (6DOF) shooter, a little like PlayStation VR’s Starblood Arena, taking inspiration from the likes of Descent. The game features procedurally generated levels that you navigate from a cockpit view, blasting away enemies and finding keys to unlock doors in the process. The new version of the game features a remastered campaign, new enemies, and a new secret weapon.

VR support will mean the game sees release on the Oculus Store, though Vive and Rift owners will still be able to grab it from Steam. It’s a gamepad game, so you can put your Vive and Touch controllers on charge for a while.

Sadly, there’s no news on a PSVR version of the game right now, despite Sublevel already being available on PS4. Fingers crossed that happens in the near future.
