Steam Winter Sale 2019 Now Live: Skyrim VR, Fallout 4 VR, Onward, And More Get Heavy Discounts

The weather has changed (or maybe not depending on where you live) which means it’s time for another Steam Sale! This time it’s the Steam Winter Sale 2019 and they’ve got some seriously surprising and deep discounts on amazing VR games.

If you’re the type of person that holds out on buying new games until you can really get a lot of bang for your buck, then you’re in luck because the Steam Winter Sale has a plethora of VR games discounted right now until January 2nd, 2020 at 10AM PT.

You can find the hub page with all of the featured VR deals and sales right here, but you can find even more deals over on the main VR landing page itself.

Oddly enough, even though the featured image art work on the Steam site displays a Valve Index, the hardware itself is not discounted. On top of that, the Index and Quest are both back-ordered all the way into February. As of now, I’d recommend getting a Rift S if you don’t have a VR headset and want a high-quality PC VR experience.

It’s Time for the Steam Winter Sale, Earn Festivity Tokens to Spend in the Holiday Market

Here in the UK, there’s a sofa store which is renown for its continual savings, making the prospect of buying a product out of a sale seem almost ridiculous. The same almost goes for Steam. The Steam Autumn sale only finished at the beginning of December and today it’s time for the winter sale. Offering the usual massive assortment of discounted titles, the Steam Winter Sale 2019 has a new feature, Festivity Tokens.

Winter Fury

You can earn Festivity Tokens by shopping on Steam or through the completion of Holiday Quests. Once you’ve collected a few tokens it’s then time to head on over to the Holiday Market to spend them on the Steam Winter Sale Coupon, new Chat Stickers, new Chat Room Effects, and other items. For each £1 you spend you get 131 tokens to use in the market. Most stickers are 500 tokens while Chat Room Effects cost 1,000 tokens. The Winter Sale Coupon is a full 5,000 tokens but it will save you £3.80 off your next purchase. Each completed Holiday Quest earns you 100 Festivity Tokens

There are plenty of new and classic virtual reality (VR) titles to choose from, such as Winter Fury: Longest Road which arrived this week and has a 25% discount. Or how about Touring Karts with a 30% discount.

Other videogames which caught VRFocus’ eye include:

Steam seems to be in such a festive spirit that there’s even a poem to mark the occasion:

“‘Twas the night of the Steam sale, and in every house
People eagerly waited, with PC and mouse.
Thousands of games, just waiting for plays,
Now shall be discounted, for 15 straight days!
Swing by for your favorites, buy gifts for your friends,
Stick around for the Yule Log (it never ever ends).
With new deals each day, and extras galore
From now through the 2nd, await at the Store.
So keep up with the party, with events, and our blog-
Watch as Steamdale’s Mayor Carol drinks way too much nog.
And from all of us here at Steam back to you
A very Happy Holidays, and Winter Sale too!”

The annual Steam Winter Sale begins today and runs through until 2nd January 2020 at 10am PT. For the latest VR savings updates, keep reading VRFocus.

VR Discounts Galore as the Steam Winter Sale 2018 Begins

When it comes to PC gaming sales there’s only one that most consumers wait for and that’s Steam’s. The online retail behemoth is renown for its chunky discounts on its massive range of content, and the Steam Winter Sale 2018 is no different.

Budget Cuts - Combat

For virtual reality (VR) enthusiasts who either own an Oculus Rift, HTC Vive or Windows Mixed Reality headset there’s a bountiful supply of experiences on offer, with discounts ranging from a mere 10 percent all the way up to a hefty 90 percent in some cases.

VRFocus isn’t going to start listing them all here – there’s way too many and Steam does that anyway. What we will do is pick out some choice cuts that are well worth adding to your library to wow the family with, extolling the virtues of VR.

Alongside all the discounts, Steam has got into the festive spirit of the season with a new theme called “Extremely Cozy Cottage of Surprises.” Jump onto Steam each day and you’ll be able to open a door on the Steam calendar to receive unique Steam Community emoticons, wallpapers and/or in-game items from community favourite Steam games – as well as some consumable digital items of questionable utility from Valve.

SteamVR Home Winte Peak

As an extra treat for SteamVR Home users, the platform has also released a new environment – Winter Peak. Made in collaboration with Scraggy Rascal Studios – who also helped create Gulping Goat Space Farm and Candy Emporium – the environment is available as an asset pack allowing users to remix and create their own map using its models, textures, and sounds.

“Venture forth from the cozy warmth of the rover, and feel the frost in the air as you trek out onto the snowy bluff. You may find the local wildlife somewhat shy and elusive, so please maintain a respectful distance to avoid scaring them off,” is how the studio describes the environment.

The 2018 Steam Winter Sale is on now and will end on 3rd January 2019 at 10am PT. For further Steam deals, keep reading VRFocus.

Steam Winter Sale Discounts More VR Games Than You Could Ever Play

Steam Winter Sale Discounts More VR Games Than You Could Ever Play

It was a good move on Oculus’ part to get out ahead of the Steam Winter Sale with its own deals; price cuts have just hit Valve’s digital store and there are more discounted VR games than you could ever hope to play.

There are over 400 VR experiences now discounted on the platform. That’s nearly half of the 1,000 pieces of content we reported were now available on Steam a few weeks ago. It’s not the first sale VR’s been involved in, but it has to be the biggest, especially considering that many more games now support both the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift following the launch of Oculus Touch at the start of the month.

We have a few suggestions if you’re looking out for the best deals. For starters, there’s a massive 60% off of DiRT Rally [Review: 9/10], Codemasters brilliant racing game, bringing it to $23.99. That’s actually a lot less than it is in the Oculus Home sale, where it’s cut to $39.99. The same goes for Slight Mad Studios’ Project CARS: $24.99 on Oculus Home, $9.89 on Steam. If you’re looking to get a deal this week, definitely make sure you check both Home and Steam first for the best ones.

You probably already own it on Vive considering it still comes for free with every purchase of the headset, but Tilt Brush has been cut from $29.99 to $20.09, so if you’re a second-hand owner now is the time to grab it.

Elsewhere there’s 50% off of VR sniping favorite, The Nest, taking the price to $4.99, and popular military sim shooter Onward has 20% off, bringing it to $19.99. Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope just got a co-op update, and it’s had its price cut to $31.99 too. The same is true of the excellent Raw Data, and Space Pirate Trainer is now just $11.24.

A personal highlight would have to be underrated horror gem A Chair in A Room: Greenwater [Review: 8/10], which is cut to $19.99.

Well, I know what I’m getting for Christmas: a Steam gift card. That’s my holiday set.
