PlayStation’s State of Play Broadcast Returns on 9th May

Back in March Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) held its first State of Play broadcast, a new way for it to announce or reveal new information about the latest software for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. That first episode was almost entirely dominated by virtual reality (VR) titles of one sort or another. Today, SIE has announced that the second episode will be taking place later this week.

PlayStation VR

Just like before, SIE isn’t going to give too much away prior to the broadcast, simply stating on PlayStation Blog: “PlayStation Worldwide Studios will be showing off an extended look at the upcoming MediEvil remake, as well as a first look at a new title. And we’ll have other updates and announcements from upcoming PS4 games.”

Don’t expect loads of videogames to appear this time either. The first episode clocked in a just under 20 minutes with episode two expected to be around half that time. Which more than likely means PlayStation VR content isn’t going to be as rife as it was before.

Hopefully, there might be some updates on the titles that appeared previously, such as Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted which was given a Spring 2019 launch date. The VR title isn’t a port of the original videogames, merely based on them, with Steel Wool Studios including all new content as well. And of course, there’s always the little matter of Iron Man VR. Slated for 2019, the title opened the first episode with a bang, with fans eager to hear more about the superhero experience.

Five Nights at Freddy's VR

State of Play: Episode 2 will take place on 9th May, at 11.00pm BST/midnight CEST and 3:00pm PST/6:00pm ET, with viewers able to watch live on TwitchYouTubeTwitter, and Facebook just like before. SIE has also confirmed there will be an episode 3 later this year, it just hasn’t said when.

April saw a nice selection of videogames arrive including Concrete Genie, Falcon Age and Jupiter & Mars. That month also saw Lead system architect for PlayStation Mark Cerny confirm that PlayStation VR would support the next generation PlayStation console.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of SIE and PlayStation VR, reporting back with the latest announcements.

All the PlayStation VR Videogame Release Date’s from Sony’s State of Play Broadcast

To kick off the first State of Play programme Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) had quite the virtual reality (VR) show to put on, with a myriad of videogame announcements almost purely focused on PlayStation VR. It all went by in quite a burr of videos, dates and information, so VRFocus has collated it all together.

Falcon Age

It certainly looks like a good year for PlayStation VR owners, with 12 titles confirmed for this year, from brand new ones like Iron Man VR to videogames that have been teased for years like No Man’s Sky.

PlayStation VR dates:

  • Mini-Mech Mayhem – 18th June 2019
  • Jupiter & Mars – 22nd April 2019
  • Falcon Age – 9th April 2019
  • Trover Saves the Universe – 31st May 2019
  • Everybody’s Golf VR – 21st May 2019
  • Table of Tales – 16th April 2019
  • Vacation Simulator – 18th June 2019
  • Blood & Truth – 28th May 2019

Other Titles Announced:

Trover Saves the Universe

PlayStation VR fans have been waiting quite a while for some of those dates, such as London Studios’ seedy dive into the criminal underworld with Blood & Truth, or for something a little lighter there’s always Owlchemy Labs’ Vacation Simulator which is coming to PC VR headsets first next month.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of PlayStation VR and all of its latest videogames, reporting back with new updates.

Sony to Make new PlayStation VR Announcements via State of Play Broadcast

Last year Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) made the shock announcement that it wouldn’t be attending the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2019 – the first time in the event’s history. It then followed this up by cancelling its PlayStation Experience event in December. Whilst citing several reasons why it now looks as though the company is taking a more direct approach for its announcements, revealing a new programme called State of Play.

State of Play

In a similar fashion to Nintendo Direct, State of Play will give gamers regular updates and information on the world of PlayStation. In a blog statement, Sid Shuman, Social Media Director for SIEA says that: “Our first episode will showcase upcoming PS4 and PS VR software, including new trailers, new game announcements and new gameplay footage.”

The first episode will be a live broadcast taking place next Monday, 25th March at 9pm GMT / 10pm CET, available to watch on TwitchYouTubeTwitter or Facebook. There will be more episodes running throughout the year, but SIE hasn’t confirmed when these will be, whether that’s weekly, monthly, or simply sporadically over the next few months.

Hopefully, there will be more news on titles like Golem which was due for release last year but never arrived, with information being highly irregular at best. Other videogames VRFocus hopes to hear more of include Blood & Truth and Trover Saves the Universe, and of course plenty of new ones as well.

PlayStation VR Group shot

With SIE taking a back seat when it comes to events and showcasing PlayStation VR, companies like Oculus will hopefully take up the mantel of promoting VR at big shows like the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2019 this week. Oculus has already confirmed it’ll be at E3 2019 this year, marking a return for the company after a three-year hiatus.

As always, VRFocus will keep you informed of all the latest PlayStation VR news and announcements as SIE makes them.

Sony To Make PSVR Announcements In New Nintendo Direct-Style Series

Sony To Make PSVR Announcements In New Nintendo Direct-Style Series

Here’s why Sony is backing out of E3 this year; it has its own Nintendo Direct-style series to replace it.

The PlayStation maker will host the first ‘State of Play’ event on March 25th at 2pm PT/9pm GMT. The show promises to showcase new PS4 and PSVR games. That includes “new trailers, new game announcements and new gameplay footage.” It’ll be aired on Twitch, Youtube, Twitter and Facebook, with a video on demand version following on.

You can watch it on YouTube here at 2PM PT:

We’re hardly surprised to see Sony follow in Nintendo’s footsteps. Late last year the company confirmed it would not be attending E3 in June 2019. That means its traditional press conference isn’t happening either. Last year Sony chose a show where it made fewer announcements and instead spotlighted a slate of already-announced games.

There is speculation that, with this generation of consoles reaching its sixth year, Sony is simply running out of big announcements to make for PS4 games. With Days Gone, The Last of Us 2, Death Stranding, Dreams, Concrete Genie and Ghost of Tsushima all on the way, the company has plenty left for the console’s swan song. These smaller, more direct (sorry) videos, might make more sense than a giant press conference.

As for PSVR, we can only speculate as to what might be announced at the show. We’re still waiting for news on Blood and Truth’s release date. We also know that a new Sony-owned UK studio has been toying away at a big PSVR exclusive for some time now. Perhaps it’s finally time we saw that.
