Checkout all of Sony’s PlayStation VR E3 Showcase Announcements

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) didn’t disappoint for its Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017 press conference. The event saw numerous virtual reality (VR) experiences announced for the PlayStation VR, from cute and cuddly adventures to frantic shooters and fantasy epics. If you missed any of them VRFocus has created a handy video run though so you can see it all for yourself – either again or for the first time.

So what was shown? Well if you weren’t keeping up with proceedings the biggest news of the night really goes to Bethesda’s The Eldar Scrolls V: Skyrim VR which the studio didn’t mention during its press conference so the videogame may just be exclusive to SIE.

Then there’s Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XV: Monster of the Deepwhich bizarrely is a fishing experience. Or you’ve a got Moss, delightful puzzle adventure featuring a mouse called Quill. For those sci-fi fans out there you’ve got Star Childfrom Lucky’s Tale developer Playful. Lastly there was a double whammy from Supermassive Games – the studio behind Until Dawn – with Bravo Team and The Inpatient. The former is a military first-person shooter (FPS) while the latter is a prequel to Until Dawn.

VRFocus will be at E3 2017 all week, so check back everyday for the latest VR news.

Sony Announces 5 Brand New Games Heading to PSVR

At Sony’s E3 2017 presentation the company announced a slew of brand new titles heading to PSVR. The range of games is diverse, from shooter to puzzle, to horror, and more.

Though Skyrim is coming to PSVR, Sony’s E3 presentation also featured a section dedicated to brand new PSVR games not seen anywhere else yet. Here’s a quick look:

Star Child

Star Child is a new title from VR developer Playful, the studio that made Lucky’s Tale (2016). The new game appears to be a platformer like Lucky’s Tale but has a vastly different setting. It seems the game will play with scale quite significantly as your tiny character eventually meets a huge robot-like life form who wants to help. We’re guessing there may be portions of the way where the character inhabits the robot and interacts with the character as a giant helper.

The Inpatient

The Inpatient is coming from Supermassive Games, the studio behind PSVR title Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, Tumble VR, and other non-VR titles. The game looks to be a first-person horror/thriller which will take place in a medical ward. At first glance it seems reminiscent of the recently released Wilson’s Heart on Oculus.

Final Fantasy: Monsters of the Deep

From Square Enix, this appears to be the evolution of the Final Fantasy VR Experience that Sony had announced alongside Final Fantasy XV at last year’s E3. The gameplay revealed so far shows a VR fishing experience ranging from little fish to giant monsters. It isn’t clear if the game will be DLC for the latest Final Fantasy or a standalone title. The game is due to launch in September.

Bravo Team

Also from Supermassive Games, Bravo Team is a cover-based shooter that looks to be almost guaranteed to support the new PSVR Aim controller that recently debuted with Farpoint (2017).

Moss

Perhaps the most unique looking title announced in the bunch, Moss, from developer Polyarc, features an adorable little sword-wielding mouse as the main character. The player will inhabit a spirit-like avatar who will help guide the mouse (from a third-person vantage point) along its adventures. The game appears to be primarily a puzzle-adventure game with light combat.

Lucky’s Tale Developer Announces Brand New Game, Star Child, For PlayStation VR

Sony’s E3 2017 press conference announced a whole host of brand new titles, and the PlayStation VR library is looking better than ever. One title is from Lucky’s Tale developer Playful – but Star Child takes on a much darker tone than a cutesy platformer.

Star Child was announced with a short trailer during Sony’s E3 press conference – a slew of brand new titles was announced for Sony’s virtual reality (VR) platform, Star Child being just one of many.

Star Child appear to take place on an alien world, filled with mysterious creatures and futuristic space ships. The man-made interiors of the planet hide many incredible fluorescent and neon creatures, all of which are sure to look incredibly imposing in VR.

The trailer end when a giant robot saves the player character, before lifting her off the ground. The mysterious premise only makes us more interested in what the developers, Playful, have in store for us.

Playful’s dedication to VR development is good to see – after their first big title Lucky’s Tale was recently announced for Xbox One as a non-VR title, some thought they may be stepping away from developing in VR.

Star Child looks like it’ll be incredibly impactful in VR – for more on Star Child, make sure to stay on VRFocus.

E3 2017: Playful Bringing Star Child To PSVR

E3 2017: Playful Bringing Star Child To PSVR

A new game announced at E3 from Playful is coming to PSVR — Star Child.

Playful is the creator of Rift launch title Lucky’s Tale, a groundbreaking title that explored platforming in VR. Star Child would be the company’s second VR title, though Playful also announced a sequel to Lucky’s Tale for traditional screens.

Details are sparse right now but Star Child looks like an evolved action platformer that aims to take the genre we grew to love with Mario on traditional screens and take it much further than Lucky’s Tale in VR.

Playful is a Texas-based studio with an experienced team that jumped deep into VR early on and began experimenting very rapidly to produce a series of prototypes to find what works and what doesn’t in VR. We don’t know much right now about Star Child, but we have high expectations after Lucky’s Tale. It was an adorable game and Super Lucky’s Tale, its sequel, will likely make Playful a much more well-known name when it arrives.

Story developing.
